I mean, it makes sense based on previous years and considering peer institutions have sent out interviews.

In all honesty, who cares though. At some point they're going to send out interviews and whether or not other people get them doesn't change the fact that we will or will not receive one as well.

No point in worrying.

is it too late to apply here?i cant tell if it's a more time-sensitive school

OOS II this morning LM 79

Is the interview scheduling link not working for anyone else? It says it’s invalid for me. I also tried logging into the secondary portal. Interview tab shows up there, but the calendar doesn’t show any dates

Were you ever able to schedule an interview? Also got II on 8/26 and have been checking the calendar daily, but I haven't seen any dates added

holy smokes, congrats! what was your submission date?
lol thank you! ngl I was waiting for the "complete??? LM???" question - should probably just default to including that info
81, and mid july (would have to look at my spreadsheet to see the exact date)

Has anyone interviewed here yet? When were you emailed your individual schedule with A v B, time, etc?

Does anyone have thoughts on applying here this late? I could probably finish the secondary within a couple of days of receiving it.
It's non-rolling admissions I'm pretty sure, so as long as you submit before the deadline you should be good.

For those who interviewed already, how far in advance did you get your schedule and did they tell you the interviewers' names? Was it with faculty/students? Also, how long was each interview? Thanks so much!

I got the schedule 2 days before. They told us the interviewers’ names just before putting us in the breakout rooms with them. Interviews were 30-45 mins.

Hey yall, congrats to those who have received interviews, and for those who haven't yet, there's still a lot of time!

I'm a current (pre-clinical) medical student at Columbia VP&S. I'm just here to answer any questions you might have about Columbia or the admissions process! I can't guarantee that I'll know everything, but if there's something I don't know, I'll do my best to ask those who do! I'm also a Bassett student, so feel free to ask anything about that.

Good luck everyone!

Hey, thanks for taking the time to offer your insight I'm interviewing soon and am curious to learn more about what makes VP&S's curriculum unique.

1) Are most pre-clinical courses taught in a didactic or flipped classroom/case-based model?
2) What's been your most favorite course so far?
3) Are there opportunities for MD students to engage in narrative medicine projects?

1. They are mostly didactic (your standard lecture, some guest speakers). The exception is our "physician" class (Foundations of Clinical Medicine (FCM)), which are small group seminars, have occasional (~weekly) team-based learning sessions, and patient as professor classes. Lectures are non-mandatory. For more information about each individual courses, you can check this link out.
2. Hmm, tough one. I'd probably say Anatomy - it's taught very well, and anatomy lab has been such an enriching experience. Obviously, VP&S isn't unique in offering in-person anatomy labs, but it's definitely something that I would consider when choosing a medical school.
3. Yeah, there are! I'm not much involved with narrative medicine yet, but I know it's a big thing! There are definitely many opportunities to pursue narrative medicine electives during your time here, and all 4th year students are required to complete a scholarly project, one of the many options of which is to do one in narrative medicine. Certain elements of narrative medicine are also imbued into our FCM curriculum. Most of this stuff is for later in your medical school career, but there are informal ways to get involved with narrative medicine, such as through StudioLab.

I hope this helps! Imo you can probably find similar curricular aspects at other medical schools too (minus maybe the Bassett curriculum and certain narrative medicine aspects). That being said, VP&S is definitely a very special place!

In your interview, did you try to focus on a subset of the Bassett program or try to appeal to its entirety? (I'm thinking about the different practice areas specifically—rural health, primary care, health delivery systems, and trauma-informed care).

I focused more on rural health, because that's what spoke to me more and where my interests mostly lied, but it all depends on the person here. The Bassett program has many different unique aspects, and if more than one speak to you, I'd talk about them both!

I will also emphasize that the Bassett interview was the chillest interview process that I had in my entire interview cycle - we spent the most time talking about music, and I barely even had the time to mention the standard "why us" because it never came up. So I'd worry less about "covering" everything and just talking about where your interests lie.

I got an ii a week ago today, but there were no open dates other than friday 10/11 which I was not available for. Checked back later that night and saw an opening in mid/late November, so I took it. Is it bad that there is so much space between my ii and actual interview? I figured earlier slots were full but wish I could have scheduled for sooner.

I applied to the Bassett program and am keeping my fingers crossed, it's an incredible program! is there a separate interview process for that program? and if so, do you think it's still possible to receive an interview at this point even if my submission date (7/27) has been passed per tracking sites?

Can anyone see the update upload option on their portal? I was trying to upload interview thank you letters, but can't seem to find it.

I just checked and it’s working fine for me - click “status” on the left hand side and then “application update” shows up! Hope this helps.

The Bassett program has a separate interview process. It's composed of 2 interview days: one with Bassett, and one with Columbia VP&S. Interview invites for Bassett are not initially received through the admissions portal.

It is still possible to receive an interview. Submission dates don't really track very well with II dates at any institution, and Bassett also has a separate process from VP&S, which makes it entirely possible to receive an interview.
