I received my secondary for the Carolina Campus the other day! I assume these questions will be the same regardless of campus! Each has a 500 word limit.
  1. Describe a significant challenge you have experienced in your life, share the strategies you employed to overcome the challenge, and what you learned from the experience.
  2. Professionalism and respect in the community in which you live is of utmost importance in medical school and as a physician. What three professional qualities do you believe a Student Doctor must demonstrate and describe how you will demonstrate these qualities as a medical student at VCOM?
  3. How do your professional ambitions align with osteopathic medicine?
  4. What influenced your decision to apply to VCOM? (e.g., personal or medical experiences; influences of friends/family/physicians/mentors; etc.)
  5. If you have not completed all the prerequisite coursework, please state how you intend on completing it prior to matriculation.

Can someone provide assistance for me? In the process of completing VCOM's secondary application. When entering the CV section, do we just need to list the place worked and title of position? In the instructions it states: "A short title/description ONLY is needed." The examples shown only list place worked and title of position so I was slightly thrown off by the 'description' piece in the instructions. Any help is greatly appreciated. TIA

got an email 6/28 that my application is pending review and has been radio silence since. I am a low GPA applicant with a huge upward trend so I figured I met the cutoff to get a secondary per their nontrad last 90 credit calculation on the website. Guess we will see as it’s still very early

Do you mind sharing stats?

Met with an admin rep yesterday, he said that the first interview invites should start coming out mid august

Just wondering what everyone’s else portal says under Status. I have a red x next to Application Complete with the following message “Your application is incomplete and will be marked complete by the admission after screening.” Secondary was submitted 6/17.

Mine says complete and my application is at screening now.

Interviewed today, really nice group of interviewers and admissions staff. Definitely personable and conversational. Interview was not as cut throat as I was expecting!

App finally complete today. Super excited to hear something VCOM is a top school for me

Finally complete after over 2 months! This is one of my top school so fingers crossed!

Is there a portal to check the progress of your application? I've been pending review since 8/6.

Could any current student/anyone who has interviewed so far this cycle elaborate more on the style of the in person interview at VCOM? Do they tend to grill you a lot on the interview or is it a friendly convo for regular screening?

It was very laid back! You interview with two different staff members for about 45 minutes each, but its very non-confrontational and relaxed. They mostly asked questions about different interests I had indicated on my initial and secondary application.

thank you!

Does anyone have any information on the Guaranteed Admissions Interview Program with VCOM and several undergrad schools? I've gotten some conflicting information on whether it's an actual guaranteed interview or whether it's just an endorsement for an interview? Thanks for any information you might have!

Accepted on Friday (09/20)!!! Interviewed on 09/09. Was not expecting such a fast turnaround!!

does anyone know the post interview acceptance rate for this school? I saw on admit.org that it’s pretty high but idk
at my interview they said they interview about 400-450 people and the average class size is about 160 people

Current OMS 4 here, let me know if anybody has questions

how much free time do you have in your 4th year? I know at some schools it’s practically like vacation after eras season. Is this true for VCOM? also how was your overall experience with 3rd year rotations? Were they set up by the school and all done at one hospital?
You have a fair amount of flexibility for choosing 4th year rotations. Only 4 of them need to be at VCOM sites, the rest can be anywhere that takes med students. Need to do a surg rotation, medicine rotation, surg or med rotation, ER rotation, and “intensive” med rotation. In reality, you can pick something very chill for each if that is your goal (e.g. anesthesiology for surg). I’ve picked chill rotations so my 4th year has been laid back. Some schools have less required rotations and can be done by Feb-March, I think I’m done by April.
3rd year rotations were good, you can rotate a number of sites (Spartanburg, Greenville, myrtle beach, Asheville, and a couple in Florida are main sites). You have access to a handful of different residencies through these rotations, which can be helpful if you are interested in one of those. You enter a “lottery” in 2nd year to get placed at a site and then the school sets up all of your rotations. IIRC everybody was happy with their placement and they take into account significant others, families, etc.

You guys doing okay out there? I heard campus doesn't have power because of the flooding.
