OOS II just now!!!
What dates are available?OOS II just now!!!
Unfortunately, I would be skeptical of this report. They came and (likely) trolled the Northwestern thread!
It appears I jumped the gun in my accusation! I apologize to @femur fracture for my unwarranted assumption.I completely agree! This is not the time or place for trolling. Some people have fragile hearts, and this kind of behavior is unnecessary. May God grant us the strength to have even an ounce of wisdom.

You owe me an apology. I have all these people coming at me now for no reasonI completely agree! This is not the time or place for trolling. Some people have fragile hearts, and this kind of behavior is unnecessary. May God grant us the strength to have even an ounce of wisdom.
You are correct. I apologize. I let the neuroticism get to me. Nothing but good wishes for you!You owe me an apology. I have all these people coming at me now for no reason

Yup, I got a water bottle, first aid kit and an ice pack two days agoAnyone get their box of swag yet? Checking the mail is becoming a compulsion
I would say interview invites are probably done. The last acceptance wave is coming up and someone above says that this is the last week of interviews. Is Johns Hopkins still interviewing?

April 10-12When is accepted students weekend? I’m waiting to hear back at the end of March and want to make sure I would be able to go if I do get accepted.
To be clear, this news is not relevant for our entering class, right? This would mean P/F clinicals for the entering class of 2024?There was something in the GroupMe essentially saying that it’s safe for another year.
It could be relevant for us. They apparently reevaluate every 3 years but it’s not clear when the last “reevaluation” was made.To be clear, this news is not relevant for our entering class, right? This would mean P/F clinicals for the entering class of 2024?
They're also trying to cut a lot of funding related to biomedical research in general, which is probably going to be an issue--especially for schools that are heavily focused on said research. It's a pretty messy situation. It's definitely a bad day for anyone who was hoping to get involved with global health work at Bloomberg, but since the cuts were really just suspended contracts with USAID, I don't think this is particularly indicative of any changes at the SOM. Hopefully.
Definitely still extremely frustrating and shocking though. I hope JHU sues the heck out of DOGE/this administration.
This upcoming week should be the last interview week of the cycle for MD and MSTP has already concluded interviews
I don't know exactly when the last reevaluation was but I believe it has been put up to vote before if that helps to know considering how the current policy is.It could be relevant for us. They apparently reevaluate every 3 years but it’s not clear when the last “reevaluation” was made.
I'm not exactly sure on the complete specifics at this moment, but I do not believe there are any plans to change anything as of right now as far as I am aware.![]()
Johns Hopkins Plans Staff Layoffs After $800 Million Grant Cuts
By Liz Essley Whyte and Nidhi Subbaraman The Trump administration has terminated $800 million in grants to Johns Hopkins University, spurring the nation’s top... Read Morewww.citybiz.co
Is the MSTP not impacted by this?
It can take some time for any such change to take hold. Initially, the assumption would be that these grant cuts can be revoked through legal challenges or making changes to address the federal government’s concerns. However, we all know that is far from a certainty. Until the dust settles, I would try to avoid universities that are under investigation.I'm not exactly sure on the complete specifics at this moment, but I do not believe there are any plans to change anything as of right now as far as I am aware.
some very top schools that are doing very important work are on this list. Therefore, I don't think it's good advice to tell people to "avoid" these schools for now until any MD or MSTP program cuts are offical which is just pure speculation at this point. It can take some time for any such change to take hold. Here are the 60 universities under investigation by the Trump administration
The Department of Education opened an investigation into 60 universities for possible antisemitic discrimination and harassment.san.com
Agreed, if you limit your choice of top medical programs to only schools unaffected by these 'investigations,' then you have UPenn, UCSF, Duke, and NYU. Conveniently, two of those universities are the alma maters of the M*sk-Tr*mp family.some very top schools that are doing very important work are on this list. Therefore, I don't think it's good advice to tell people to "avoid" these schools for now until any MD or MSTP program cuts are offical which is just pure speculation at this point.
Every decision is personal and no two people think alike. Even if something is official such as the Columbia and JHU grant cuts, those can be revoked by future developments. Having said that, MD or MD-PhD/MSTP students are going to commit 4-8 years to a medical school in a key stage of their life. There are programs, not on the list, that also are excellent and have faculty & students doing important work. Bottom-line, everyone who receives multiple As has choices and each one needs to weigh fit, reputation and risk in making that decision. Now, risk has been added as an important third variable adding to the complexity of decision-making.some very top schools that are doing very important work are on this list. Many of these gestures have practical consequences, though. Just look at the NIH funding freezes, the DoE being gutted, or the fact that they did go after Columbia.Political decisions are not scientific decisions. Politics is largely symbolic, gesture-based and emotive; it is rarely rational (though certainly strongly motivated), nor does the effect of a decision correlate 100% to the original decision itself.
The publishing of this list is a *gesture* and gains power by sentiment, like waving a flag on the battlefield, its purpose is firstly to appeal to and rally the voter base; the secondary purpose is to intimidate and confuse academia and scientists.
Us ordinary folks can’t change major course, but we can at least choose not to self-sabotage by being intimidated; we can choose to keep doing what we can and what we do best: liking science and helping people 🙂
Success in the practice of medicine already depends on many more factors beyond science and clinical ability. The reimbursement landscape, mid level creep etc. are becoming more important by the day. No student should make a decision solely based on the “reputation” of a medical school. Many of these gestures have practical consequences, though. Just look at the NIH funding freezes, the DoE being gutted, or the fact that they did go after Columbia.
Yeah, people shouldn't entirely change course in response to these sorts of actions unless absolutely necessary, but it's important to be aware of the ramifications of these policies. Downplaying them is unwise given the historical precedent there is for attacks on education of this scale, not to mention the consequences we're already seeing.
