Hi all! I just finished pre-writing Lina Linda’s secondary essay. Are there any current students willing to take a second look at it and give me feedback? Thanks!!

Hi everyone, it’s your local sdn LLU med student checking in for another application cycle. For those of you who don’t know, I’m currently an MS4 at LLU and a part of the regional campus at AdventHealth in Orlando, FL.

As always, I’m happy to answer any questions y'all may have and I’d highly recommend scrolling through the last three years of application cycles as I have answered many people’s questions or concerns (the same ones tend to pop up every year haha)

Wishing you all the best of luck! Continue to work hard and live life a little bit with this time that you have before med school!! (It’s the stuff you do outside of medicine that really counts in life…keeps you human if ya know what I mean😁)

Is it possible to get in without being SDA? And if so, what does it take?

Hey! It is possible and I'm living proof haha. I will say they do not tend to take people with lower scores + are not SDA. Typically it is easier for an Adventist to get in. While I'm not cream of the crop by any means, I had a lot of things boosting my application like lots of EC's and I happened to go to and Adventist undergrad even though I'm not one (small health sciences school). I think simply because of where I went for undergrad, I was able to get in.

Most others I know who are not Adventist had 514+ MCATs with perfect GPAs from well known undergraduate institutions (or had applied 2+ cycles and were persistent). Of course there are exceptions to this, but that is the common theme that I have seen.

Just to add on, I have a friend in their dental program who knows a good amount of students who are either not religious or SDA. I'm sure this trend aligns with the med school.

I'm filling out my secondary now! I am Christian though not SDA. Curious about everyday life. Do I have to go to chapel? I'm from a denomination that frowns upon attending other denomination's churches. I also drink caffeine and the occasional glass of wine. Will I get kicked out if I have a glass of wine in my own home?

"Please enter the name and contact number for your Clergy/Pastor"

Does this question need to be answered? What if you don't have one?

just leave it blank, I put mine down, but I do not have a very personal relationship with him, hoping that does not blow my chances.

For their introductory biology requirement (I did general biology + lab one semester and human physiology + lab) they don't count physio courses. Could I substitute the physio with another lower or upper div bio course (that doesn't have a lab associated with it)?

I also have Ap bio credit but idk if that satisfies

Is there any advantage to selecting a priority for the Ohio and Florida campuses? Is it better to rank all 3 or say you're not interested if you only have one preference?

Hi! I received Loma Linda's secondary several weeks earlier but I was confused about whether I met their prereqs. I called and emailed their office and the person gave me an unclear answer that suggested I didn't meet the requirements (so was planning to just not do the secondary).

Admissions finally emailed me back like after two and a half weeks replying that I actually meet their requirements, but now the secondary is like 3 and a half weeks old. Is it still worth completing the secondary at this point (this school was one of my top choices before).

Hey yall, just wanted to see if maybe there is a current or former student in this chat that would be willing to help edit my secondary. I'm willing to pay about 20-30 bucks if interested. TIA

Anyone facing the issue of not all academic coursework showing up when completing the course check? It seems like courses taken pass/fail don't show up. Idk what to do about this because my school had a mandatory pass/fail for physics due to COVID-19. Any insight would be helpful, maybe I'm overlooking something.

Relatedly, I took an accelerated general chem course that allowed me to skip the one year sequence. Students who scored a 5 on the AP Chemistry course in high school generally qualified for the accelerated course. How do I bring this across?

I have been checking the portal quite regularly and I had already gotten the application complete email and had check marks for everything on the status page. However, when I checked today there is a red x next to the application complete section and the notes say " Your application is being reviewed for completion." Has this happened to anyone else? Does this mean a rejection?

I heard that they are supposed to send acceptances to early decision applicants today, Did anyone heard anything?

Chapel is mandatory for the first two years. It's on Wednesdays for an hour and is pretty off base when it comes to theology and anything remotely Biblical. Most med students just post up in the back and study on their computers with headphones. You can pay attention if you want, but no one is forcing you to. They will just scan your ID for attendance at the end of every chapel.

If you attend all of the chapels without using your 3 skips per quarter, you can stack them up and essentially have the last few months of MS2 free from having to attend chapel (they just pool the skips and let you use them at the end).

All in all it's not a horrible requirement to deal with. You are also 100% able to stay in your own denomination of church and it's actually encouraged. We have some faculty that aren't Adventist and they are involved with other denominations in the area. Also everyone drinks caffeine, I used to bring energy drinks to campus every day and students would bring coffee to lecture. They just don't sell them on campus, no one cares what you drink though. Alcohol I wouldn't drink on campus, but what you do elsewhere is your own business. I can tell you right now that no one cares what you do when you're not at school. Would I order a pitcher of beer while in front of faculty at a restaurant...probably not...but thats just common sense lol

I would answer the question. If you don't have one, explain why or how your religious beliefs have led you to not have a pastor for reference.

For the sake of everything good in life...COME TO FLORIDA. AdventHealth Orlando is the LARGEST hospital in the nation by bed number. I promise you will not regret it in the slightest. My experience here has been nothing but good and they take such good care of us. I know many of my loma linda counterparts are jealous for how good we have it out here. Plus the clinical experience is pretty amazing since Orlando is a huge tourist destination. You will see stuff from all over the world and unique cases pretty regularly. I cannot emphasize how amazing coming to Florida is. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions!

Yes, complete it and send in a letter of intent if this is truly where you want to go. Sorry for the late responses, was busy on an audition rotation for the last month and a half!

I'm happy to skim over it for you if you want. I know it might be a little late, but happy to help if you still need it!
