2024-2025 McGovern

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Your first interview might be at noon for example and your second at 1:30, both within a noon to 2 pm window.
Thank you but how would I know when to log into the interview portal? should I just log in at 12 and just wait until they show up? The email says nothing about the exact timing. I just don't wanna wait til last minute to find out

You will get detailed directions and seriously, take the whole day off and sit at your computer.
There are a lot of interviewers and a lot of students to coordinate exactly and they will inform you of your exact time on the day of the interview.

Medicine as a career and life in general is full of uncertainty, so be flexible and ready to meet 2 new people and have a good conversation on your interview day.

They tell you to log on at 8:30 am for the introduction and Q&As so regardless of when your actual interview time is you would have to log on at 8:30 for check-in. Maybe this is when they tell you what time slot you are interviewing?

On the "Interview Day Information" tab on the portal, it says, "Typically, you will be able to view your assigned interviewers one day prior to your interview day." I'm assuming they'll also give us our exact interview times when we can view the interviewers' info? not 100% sure tho

Last year I received an interview invite around this time last year, but this year I have yet to get one. Does that indicate anything about my chances this time around, or am I overthinking?

Good luck this time around, it’s still pretty early. Did you add to your school list this time and add to your activities at all?

Are you discussing specifically about this school or just a school? Different schools treat reapplicants differently. Some schools love reapplicants while others may give first comers the early interviews since they already know about you.

I did add to my school list. This cycle, I graduated magna cum laude and I’m working full time as a medical assistant. I’m also volunteering after work at least once a week. In the current and planned activities I’ll have 2000 more hours in this whole year of medical field experience from my job and at least 100 volunteer hours more by May when compared to last cycle. Should I be doing more than this?

I also improved my essays a lot. Improved my gpa to 3.79 and my MCAT was 517. I’m kind of struggling to know what more I can do because I only got 2 interviews last cycle. Was hoping I would be more competitive than that

That sounds like enough!

1. What have you heard about the interview process this cycle? Looks like McGovern changed the format (from MMIs to 1:1s with professors).
2. Why did you choose McGovern over your other choices? Looks like you had quite a few options (congrats!)
3. What advice would give to an applicant who is getting ready to interview?

1. They didn’t use MMIs last year, just 1:1s

2. McGovern was cheaper than OOS options and I went back and forth with UTMB, but the resources at the TMC are unmatched in my opinion

3. I would say to be genuine and talk about what makes you, you. Many interviewers at McGovern in my opinion are looking for that passion from applicants. My interviews were very personal and inviting.

Thank you for your insights and advice and good luck!

What is this Kira talent thing I have to do? Is it like the one-way interview thingy I had to do for the UTMB secondary?

For those of you who got your IIs today, did you also get your Kira Talent invite? I don't see it in my inbox. Do I need to wait a couple of days?

Am I correct in that they seem to be mostly going in order of submission dates for IS? Saw multiple 6/25s today and my 6/27 doesn't know whether to be terrified or excited

My secondary was submitted 6/19 but my last letter was verified 7/21 so I got a while to wait. Anxious 😕

It is not in order. My friend completed in July and got an II at the end of July. You can also scroll up and see the previous II and their completed dates.

Just out of curiosity, anyone here submit around 6/29–7/1 and hear back for an II?

For those of you that had an interview today, how was the experience?

Extremely low stress, both interviews were very conversational and genuinely seemed interested in getting to know me
Any advice about how to get ready? Were the interviewers faculty? Were the questions focused on the application or looking for insights outside the application?

I'd recommend just reviewing primary/secondary, I was asked a lot of questions about my specific activities and my rec letter writers came up several times. I believe you can have either 2 faculty interviews or 1 faculty and 1 MS4, which is who I personally had.

Follow-up to my earlier message, did anyone here submit late June or early July that's heard back yet? I'm unsure if ii's are sent out in the order of completion dates.

So is McGovern doing MMIs this year per what's written on the MSAR or are they still doing traditional 1 on 1s? The information on MSAR seems to contradict what people who have already interviewed are reporting on this thread.

Hey guys, what are y'all thoughts on letter of intent? I interviewed with McGovern this past Friday and I have to say it is my top choice. Should I send an LOI stating this and hoping for a pre-match or just wait?
