2024-2025 Morehouse

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Is it true that all morehouse student will receive 100K from the Bloomberg donation? I read it on the website so I'd like any current student to elaborate on that a bit.
And also, is there a Full-tuition scholarship? Whether need-based or merit-based?
Thanks I'm advance.
No, it’s not true. From a previous donation, I believe in 2020 the students received 100k. However, it’s highly likely that the Bloomberg donation will go toward building development. We’ve advocated for student scholarship and their response is that the funds have to be deposited for a year into a fund to collect interest before they figure out what to do with it. However, in our town hall the dean said they’re leaning toward expansion. Currently our classrooms don’t hold the capacity for the current student body.

That’s exactly the reason. We had a sharp decrease in board scores. However, they don’t realize just the amount of stress that places on students. We aren’t appropriately prepared for boards and often take our shelf exams well before we’ve even covered the material but are told to just pass at the fifth percentile. We’re actually meant to have a large meeting today to try and protest.

Our classes next year will also likely be mandatory attendance and no active zoom links. I’m just trying to help everyone make an informed decision.
Any updates on how the meeting went?

Unfortunately, faculty weren't really receptive. We explained how we felt and are working to create an appeal to present to the president. However, as of right now it seems that there's no give. One of our deans said verbatim, "As of now, we are leaning in the direction of switching to graded preclinical. There's a difference between seeing a pass on a transcript versus seeing an A. This shouldn't worry you if you are doing all that you need to do."

I'll try and keep you all updated!

there's also a very big difference between seeing a pass and seeing a C lol

did anyone who got accepted email a thank you letter? just completed the interview and wanted to know if this impacted their decision

For those in the alternative list, how would you describe your interview experience?
First interview went amazing! She seemed impressed (but who knows honestly) and even said she hopes to see me on campus next year! Second interview was ok. Fumbled a bit by saying the wrong year I started volunteering at a clinic and being too honest about something. I still connected with my second interviewer and asked about her a lot so I hoped I would get the A.

Can anyone who has done the interview share their thoughts/what to expect? How did you prepare?
chiller than I thought! One of my interviewers was more intimidating than the other lol. The dean was very nice tho! I would ask the student panel about any and all reservations you have! They were very nice and informing.

I prepared by talking to current MSM MS1 students and doing mock interviews. Their advice was while you’re not in a break room during the interview portion, I would make time to ask the dean some questions in between interviews and chit chat with him a bit. Ask your interviewers about themselves and pay attention to what they say (for example, what they do and their profession). Know you application front and back including start dates! Make sure you have an answer for any shortcomings about your application because they may ask you about it.

does writing a letter of interest help with WL and alternate list? I feel like it won’t do much

Info session on Tuesday, March 11 at 2pm ET, per website. I’m looking at it as I type this. If any of you are able to attend please let us know what is said during it. I won’t be able to attend

Hello everyone, I need some advice. I have already sent an LOI. Do you think I should send another LOI since I'm on the waitlist as an OOS to maximize my chances?

Same. I sent mine before I got put on the waitlist. I’m thinking about sending another one. Can’t hurt.

Hello everyone! I don’t normally post on here, but I was given some info at my interview day that may be useful to y’all on here.

1. Today 3/28 is the last official interview day for Morehouse SOM for this cycle.
2. They did confirm to us that they will be going back to letter grades for preclinical years starting with this upcoming M1 class.

Good luck to everyone!

Thats disappointing that they have not notified people who are waitlisted/accepted about this huge curriculum change

In case any of you are available to attend there’s an upcoming info session.

Just attended the infosession. It’s really just for prospective students who are applying in the upcoming cycle. They went over MSM requirements and the AMCAS application. No mention of anything Waitlist or Interviewed students.

i’m hesitant to even reach out and ask about where they are in the process and my status because i feel they’re being intentionally vague

No I get you! They asked us if we had any questions but I was quiet as a mouse because I felt like an intruder being there with all those future applicants.

I've made peace with not hearing until the first week of May.

Hello everyone, speaking here as an M1 at MSM. Seeing some of your comments, and yeah, it get's like this during this time of the season. Just to present myself as an example, I interviewed as an in-state applicant on 12/01/23, and wasn't accepted until 04/16/24. I know 100% it's easy saying this on the other side, but just keep breathing, take the days one step at a time. And if nothing else, May isn't too far away.

P.S, if there are questions about first-year, feel free to respond or DM me!

How are you feeling about the school going back to graded preclinical? Even though I’m WL, this is a huge concern.

Super nettled! It's especially annoying since we came to the school under the impression preclinical would be P/F, something several classmates have told me would have 100% impacted their decision to come here. I will say, to try and see the silver lining, that several faculty have said that moving to letter grades will help make us more competitive. In short, the rationale proposed is A's look betters than P's on a transcript. I lack the experience to comment on how accurate that is, so it's a possible plus. Everything else has been bunk though, especially this idea that moving to letter grades will magically increase our scores. I know their assumption is the change will make us work harder, yet many of us already live in the library, so I'm not sure what they're truly expecting.

I should also add, and apologies in advance, that it appears mandatory attendance is also likely on the block for changes being implemented in the Fall. There seems to be greater willingness from admin to budge on that, but we'll see.

Thank you for your insights! These are definitely some of my concerns as having to fight tooth and nail to get an A will likely reduce the time you could be spending on research or other EC's.

Anyone on the waitlist heard anything so far? Or knows when they’re gonna start
