Rippp I'm sorry for those who received the R just barely. Were you notified by email or did they still call you?

Sorry about the R's y'all. Any chance y'all can let us know what days you interviewed on?

I went through this process last year and without a doubt UNC was the most frustrating school to engage with/wait for. Ended up with a WL and then R.

I'm sure I'm bitter, but it would seem they could find ways to streamline or at least clarify their process. No other school has been as unresponsive and shrouded in mystery as them in my experience!

To anyone feeling defeated. Totally been there. I didn't get in anywhere last cycle. This year I beefed my app up and kept it pushing. I finally got an A this go around (another school; still waiting from here). A lot of this is just an odds/dumb numbers game and not at all indication of your abilities or work put in.

Remember, what do they call the person who graduated last in their med school?

Doctor.

Godspeed y'all. When we are physicians, let's all remember how broken this system felt and vow to streamline/improve it.

congrats on your A! I appreciate the kind worded message. I interviewed 10/7 and feel like I'm in the R category. But the long wait has been painful. Did anyone get a post II R from October? Or did everyone interview September?

Does the R email mention how many applicants they received this year? I know other schools like Duke saw an increase in applicants which made things all the more competitive

I think schools just say that, kinda like “our menu options have changed” when you call customer support. According to AMCAS, Duke had 8,431 applications in 23-24 and 8,284 applications this cycle. So at least for Duke, the number of applications actually decreased compared to last cycle. For UNC, there was a slight increase at 5,957, up from 5,808 last cycle, but I doubt that’s a truly significant increase.

my rejection email from Duke mentioned they got over 9000 applicants this year for the 2024-2025 cycle. I was just curious if UNC's numbers fluctuated since they've been ridden w scandal like being in the AA lawsuit.

March 15th is looming, so they have to send out more acceptances either this week or next week

Does UNC actually differentiate between CR and WL? I've been CR since December and it feels like its just a waitlist

March 15th is the AAMC deadline for schools to make offers of admission equaling their class size. So UNC will have to have sent out 230 acceptances by then

^this is based on traffic rules so it’s not 100% mandatory, but UNC has adhered to them in previous years
This may be true but I was told they are delayed this year due to some changes in their admissions process. They make offers of admission into late March.

I'M Tired Of This Grandpa GIF - I'm tired of this grandpa ...

Based on last year's thread it seems like there was a small wave of A's on the 12th of March, a ton of waitlists sent out on the 18th, and then R's on the 19th.
Idk how current their FAQ is but it just says that "Typically, we will be done with all final decisions, including wait list invitations by the end of March, and no later than the first week in April."

If i get rejected in April I'm cooked. I'd have to retake the MCAT and that gives me about a month(ish) to study💀

Just checked the accepted student group me and there are only 78 people in that as of right now. This seems alarmingly low considering the fact that UNC has 220 seats this year. Does this mean that unc still has yet to fill 2/3 of its seats? Or is this group me not even close to being reflective of the amount of A's gone out?

Not reflective. The accepted students FB group has 114

Not entirely sure why but last years class was only 204 despite them suppose to be increasing to 215. With the chance of losing NIH indirects, it is possible they will keep our class smaller as well.

6 months after my interview and still no update. really hoping to hear soon. this process is really long and tough. have other schools also made y’all wait this long? just curious. the other schools I interviewed at got back to me within 2 months. I just wasn’t sure if this is very typical of the process or is particularly lengthy lol

No, every school that I interviewed (and was accepted at) let me know within two months. The shortest period was 24 hours, and the longest period was two months. The UNC auto-reply email says that they're short staffed, so maybe that is contributing. But from previous years' threads, it looks like UNC just has a very long cycle.

interesting, but even that still is only half of the seats.
n=1, but I’ve been pending on approval to enter the FB group for at least a week. I also didn’t get around to actually joining until a while after they sent it out, so totally possible that other people are like me and did the same thing.

^same

do they link the accepted students facebook group in the accepted email, or is it like a third party group
it was sent out by admissions, but I got it separately from my acceptance, about 2 months later. I think they just sent it out once it was set up

Anyone think decisions have to come out any time soon this week? It looks like decisions came out this day last year

Are we thinking we might hear back today/tomorrow? They made a wave of decisions the second week of March last year, but it sounds like they have had delays due to admission changes, short staffing, potential funding cuts, etc. Also, March 15 is Saturday, idk if that date holds any real weight or not..

If I had to guess we won't hear back until next week or the week after. This week is UNC's Spring Break, so I wouldn't expect a decision this week/weekend. Good luck to us all! Sending out good vibes!
The undergrads are on spring break, not the med school - theirs is the week after next! So hopefully next week is our week 🤞
