2024-2025 Rutgers (New Jersey)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Damn I didn’t know they interview that early for RD lol. And they must be REALLY behind bc how are u just now getting a call😭
Yeah I think I was an early batch, I bet they're working through August interviewees rn and are aiming to be done with September people by Thanksgiving (or at least that's my uninformed hunch)

Any point to sending a letter of *intent* at this point as a late-august interviewee?

Or do we think that the decisions have already been made and Dean Heinrich is just working his way through the calls?

Probably just Sunday

The next date will probably be 11/17 or 11/20

But who knows tbh. They made a bunch of decisions about September RD interviewees by the time of that Rutgers event. There is a possibility, albeit slim, that they may be catching up on all the calls this week

Also, has anyone ever gotten in before meet the dean if it was scheduled a month out from interview ?

from everything I’ve read, decisions are only sent to those who’ve completed the deans session and the faculty interview

II at noon today! btw i also interviewed at RWJ about 2 weeks ago so idt that the merger is affecting the schools II. im a bit worried about interviewing "late" bc based on this thread it seems that NJMS already as their class roster already filled out?

For those that interviewed late September and had deans session in mid October, have yall heard back yet? I am in state btw

same here! Haven’t heard. I’m thinking (hoping) they’re moving chronologically which means maybe we hear around thanksgiving or a little after at the earliest

We thinking August interviews who haven’t heard are cooked? (At least until they go back and re-review in January or whatever?)

I looked back through previous years, and they do seem to move chronologically

I interviewed in August and was accepted Sunday. Don't count yourself out yet

Does anyone have any insight on how the merger between the two Rutgers schools will change the preclinical curriculum and grading policy? Has the school mentioned if the preclinical grading will continue to be a tiered system (HH, H, P, F) or will they change it to P/F to match Robert Wood Johnson?

hey yall, so based off this "While the student interview is optional, it is a great opportunity for us to learn more about you and for you to gain additional insight about NJMS during a one-on-one interaction with a medical student.", does optional truly mean optional? its the way they say "for us to learn more about you" that has me a bit confused. was wondering if what occurrs in the student interview could help/break my overall score if they want to learn more about me?

Mine was more conversational and relaxed than the initial interview. I don't think it hurts and can only help, but I have no idea what weight they place on it. I really think they're just trying to get to know you.

My student interviewer was really chill and it was a good opportunity for me to ask questions about the school. He did mention (in passing) that they do give value to student interviews. Based on the context of the conversation, I took it as they care about the students input and its kind of like a vibe check. However, that was just my interpretation so take it with a grain of salt.

My student interview focuses a lot less on the traditional questions about academics, why medicine, etc and more on me as a person - so how I plan to volunteer, things I do for fun, etc.

Agreed with what everyone else is saying — would def do the student interview if you can; it is a low-stress interview and can only help, I think. As to whether it is truly optional, I can’t say for sure; I don’t think anyone really knows.

anyone know if i can get an earlier deans session? I interviewed recently but my session is mid december...

They said it can take up to 12 weeks to hear a response during the deans session. Would not worry too much.
