2024-2025 Stony Brook

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
If you look at cycletrack it seems that last year all the rejections listed ended by March. This year it looks like the last wave of rejections came March 17th.

My guess is that unlike some other schools (like Einstein), they didn't interview 1M people where they have to flat out reject 90% of the people they even interviewed. Thus, if you were interviewed and haven't been rejected already, you are at least under consideration.

Did anyone get finaid?! I haven't gotten it from SBU despite getting accepted back in October!
Visit day somebody asked, and they said they would get back to everyone who requested it by Wednesday or something. I think you may want to send financial aid an email requesting a breakdown though. Not completely sure it was kinda confusing.

Are they done releasing direct acceptances or waitlists (HPWL and WL) post-interview? Has anyone still not hear back from them post-II? I am still in the waiting loom, and I hope I get some kind of decision before May 1st... and not be ghosted (T-T)

I just called them they said that I could expect my fin aid in July but I’m like I need it before then because isn’t the final day to commit June 1st? I’m also trying to negotiate for tuition.

I am in the same boat. Have you reached out to them? I emailed them last week and they just responded saying they will contact as soon as final decision has been made. 🙁

No, I did not since I was expecting a similar response.
Maybe they are holding people and waiting for people to withdraw? Or sadly, could be a R that will only be decided once waitlist movement is over? I don't know I have been trying to understand the situation while waiting.

No, I did not since I know the obvious response would be that they are still reviewing and will let me know soon.

yes. it is really hard just to keep waiting for the email to come. any updates on the application would be helpful.

when was your interview?

If yall havent gotten a decision yet its looking good. I think RSOM is reasonably good at giving out rejections and waitlists post interview. If you are in the dark regarding decisions then it means they re continually evaluating you. Meaning its either a straight up acceptance or HPWL.

Take that with a grain of salt, its from reviewing trends from this year and last year.
🙂

Thanks, I really hope so.

+1 HPWL — Interviewed 3/6.

Does anyone know what the odds of acceptance actually are? Can I remain on this while choosing another medical school for CYMS?

UPDATE: I also received a “Wait List” email separate from the HPWL one. Was one a mistake? Or do they send both automatically?

Just a PSA: in the AIS, they indicated that last year's waitlist movement was an anomaly, in that there was barely any movement at all. If you read the 2023-2024 thread, movement didn't appear to even start until late May, and it was quite minimal in totality. Hopefully, they have fixed whatever went wrong last year, regardless, I would avoid using last year's WL movement as a metric.

Could people who haven’t heard back anything since their interview post here when they get an update?

I am still in my delulu era of waiting, but I want to be realistic about whether I will hear back or not 🙁

been delulu since December, and will continue to be 🫠

Where did you hear this from? Anyone know when WL movement typically begins?
Well, last year it began late May, though they said that was highly unusual. I emailed the adcom last week and they said, "hopefully in the next several weeks" -- vague, but could mean any time. If they are running on the traditional schedule, then I guess that we should get something within the next two weeks. But who knows, honestly?

do you know if theyre referring to the HPWL ?

Does anyone have an idea of when is the latest Stony Brook has given out acceptance in one medical school cycle?

I have no idea. The assumption is that the first offers will be given to whoever's left on the HPWL, but I don't think the adcom publicly acknowledges its existence, lol. Med schools really dislike having vacancies in their classes, so they move fast. Past threads have shown that there's been some ostensible overlap (at least in how it's been reported) between the WL and HPWL.

As a first response? According to Cycletrack the last acceptance last cycle was reported on May 1st. But from the waitlist, they can offer you acceptance until July I think, which is generally when they send the "our class is full at this time" email.

I have a friend that is at RSOM now and they were taken off the waitlist mid-June. Normal WL too, not HPWL.

How do I know if I am on regular WL or HPWL? All I got was an email saying im on the "waitlist."

If your email only mentioned that you're on the wait-list, then you are on the regular WL. The HPWL email is different and will specifically mention it.

Are people still getting first response acceptances after II during this time around?

Yes, there were a few acceptances reported from late interviews.

I think you were one of the last people to say you were still waiting. I could be wrong, but I think any responses going forward should be waitlist movement? Here's hoping that's the case.

Did anyone ever receive a response back after emailing them to let them know you uploaded a letter?

I did. At this point, I don't think they diligently check the portal. I have just emailed any docs/updates directly to the somas email. They've been quite good with their confirmation replies.

Okay need to know if yall think that they over-accepted people so there’s no movement in the waitlist and there probably won’t be, or if they are just taking their sweet time to fill the spots of the people that declined their admission?

We truly won’t know. It seemed like last year they filled more than usual early on, leading to slow/little WL movement. It was apparently a one-off, but I would not be surprised if that’s the new norm 😄

Hanging on the WL myself so trying not to drive myself too crazy!

I've tried my hardest to be optimistic for the past 2 weeks, but I am starting to lose hope. How is it possible that waitlist movement has not started yet?? I'm not sure if this is common knowledge, but I just found out that accepted students were required to make a deposit on May 6th. I imagine that maybe this would have caused a handful of accepted students to withdraw, but I guess that was not the case. At this point I've convinced myself that if there were spots people would be getting pulled from the waitlist, and the fact that there are not means that there are little to no spots. I really want to be at this school, but I am grateful to hold another acceptance and plans on attending that institution are becoming realer every day. Needed to vent. Any thoughts?

Agreed and glad you have a spot somewhere! Thinks my top school too and I’m on 2 other WL; just trying to hold on to some hope and wait it out as I apply for another cycle.

It’s hard being patient when you’ve poured all of your energy into one thing for years and years, but if we can come out on the other side of this as physicians, then it was worth the wait!
