I got the same email but gosh, I hope that’s not true. I’m hoping they’re just slow. Everyone I’ve asked that’s gotten one was verified before me so😭

I just heard from faculty member at another UC that UCLA tends to prefer OOS applicants. Also haven’t received UCLA secondaries and I’m from SoCal.

Only two fifths of every entering class is OOS, so I'm not sure that characterization is accurate. But if one is a California IS applicant, I can see why it might seem unfair to have that ratio of enrollment.

Remember statistics that are not randomized must be taken with a grain of salt. In this case, the applicants choose if they want to attend UCLA or another state, a cheaper one, and even better if it's their own state for that in-state tuition. If a Texan got into their own state school, they're not going to UCLA if given the choice.

I was on a info session with UCLA today and they said you must have already submitted at least 3 letters of recommendation in amcas to receive a secondary app. I dont know if this applies to too many people but I figured I would put it here

Last cycle that sent me the secondary like an hour after they received my primary at 12am PST. I don't think the way they do it is necessarily in depth/chronological lol
 
For those of you with an app focused on serving the underserved, are y'all applying to the Urban Health Equity Pathway? I'm having a hard time deciding whether to apply or not

Nah. These programs, like all schools, give you a bit of everything so you can later specialize. If you're already specializing in how you help underserved communities, there's no need.

I'm having trouble understanding this. How can one be "specializing in how you help underserved communities," exactly? And why would that mean that an Urban Health Equity Pathway would be ill-advised?

I didn't write a covid prompt bc by the time I got to college things were mostly back to normal so it really hasn't impacted my journey to medical school that much. I guess I could write something but not sure if it's necessary. If anyone has any insight on if it would look bad if I didn't write anything let me know.

A human has to go through every application and screen it. "There is no specific date when you should expect to be notified of an application update or decision. The timeline varies for each applicant."

I would not worry until you get a rejection. No news is good news! 🙂

However the screen is stronger if you arent IS

I got an email saying mine was in review, got mine two days ago (OOS) in the middle of the night.
It seems they are, literally, verifying each application one-by-one. I wouldn't be nervous.
 
Do they really heavily screen?? I was verified this morning and got a secondary tonight. Very surprised. How could they screen that fast??
 
For the question: Describe your most scholarly project (thesis, research or field of study in basic or clinical science or in the humanities) and provide the total number of hours, dates and advisor.

I did an undergraduate honors thesis, which I included in my activities section, with the abstract being the description, so I feel redundant including my findings again here. Should I focus on the bigger picture of why it was important, what I learned throughout the process, and how I hope to use the skills I gained to fulfill my societal mission of "physician and .......", or do I still need to explain my findings?

the 800 character limit is making it tough to fit everything so I need to decide what to include. Hope someone can help!

I feel like describing it in a way that makes sense towards your mission makes the most sense

Both are part of the application. I feel like I am just saying the same thing over and over again :/
