This did occur... Just shows you that what people share on SDN is a small proportion of the big picture.

I also think it’s totally within the admission office’s right to change their minds about when and how many waves there are. No need to treat it like some egregious lie that prematches happened sooner or later or more frequently 😂 Sometimes things come up and plans change. Who knows. We’re future doctors, time to learn flexibility!

Congratulations on the interviews! I have TX friends with 0 interviews so you are in an envious position for many. I'm sorry you don't think you'd be happy attending 2/3 schools you interviewed at. Only 1 in like 7? applicants get a prematch so don't throw in the towel just yet. No matter what school you go to, you will achieve your goal of becoming a physician - even if it isn't your top choice. And I've heard several med students claim the schools they attend were not their first choice, yet they have grown to love them and realize that school was the best fit for them - this can be your story too. Realistically, no matter the odds or your personal preferences, you will be fine.
 
Because I saw Wysdoc asking on other Texas threads- UTMB orientation for class of 2029 is 8/4/25-8/8/25

not everyone gets their #1 choice, and it depends on us to make the best of our situation. You HAVE to put in the effort to make the best of any school you go to, no matter what.
Realign your expectations. Also, if you truly do not want to go to either of those two schools, then withdrawing your application is an option (although I don’t recommend that, but it’s an option). Just don’t attend a school you will be ungrateful to be at, because the staff, employees and students will notice.
 
Not sure if this helps, but at preview day I met a couple of current students that did not have a prematch to UTMB but matched in during match day. So you never know

yep banking on the same interactions I had, where 2 student ambassadors matched on match day
 
I’d say a lot of people were disappointed because of the Dean saying acceptances will be at the end of the month and then happening immediately after saying that. At the end of the day they hold the privilege to accept whoever they want, whenever they can, but it’s kinda confusing when top authorities give you conflicting information. I mean even for me, which I don’t have UTMB as my first choice, I still feel confused and sad because I think Utmb is a fantastic school. I can only imagine how someone who has it as their first choice can feel.
At the end of the day all we can do is wait, it just would have been better if communication was clear, or simply don’t say anything that can cause confusion.
 
For prematches, is it binding if we "accept" admission in MyStar? I'm not sure if this is required now or a step to take when you decide you are going to matriculate to UTMB.

It is not binding until Match Day, so accept an offer as they ask you to do, you are still able to rank all your TMDSAS schools for the Match.

I think what you will find, no matter where you go (and certainly at UTMB), that things are not necessarily given as conflicting information. Oftentimes things are accurate one moment and then things change quickly and no longer accurate. Last year someone came on the UTMB thread and shared info that was given at a preview day, and then I immediately chimed and said actually, that was just changed. Things can change very quickly here, and that is something you will have to learn to be okay with lest your experience stress you out nonstop.

man i get the feeling, but your shot for this school is so not over. a ton of current students I know got in on or even after match day. 3 interviews is fantastic, why'd you apply to schools you don't want to attend?

Just letting you know that there is no proof for this being the final round of prematches for this school. I have friends last year get prematches during the last week of January for example. Good luck 🙂
 
So after January 31st (ranking deadline) what happens? Do schools continue to send prematches or nothing happens until Feb 14?
 
IS Post-II R, didn’t feel the interview went poorly but perhaps I’m wrong. Just hoping match day has better news than this

Sorry for the dumb question, but I thought schools did not reject until after the match? also did you get an email?

Getting a post-interview R is uncommon at TMDSAS schools, sorry this was your outcome.
It doesn’t mean that your interview necessarily went wrong but they are tipping you off that they are NOT going to rank you for Match.
If you had other TMDSAS interviews, still rank those schools.

I submitted my rankings already for all my schools, is it necessary for me to go back and edit due to this?

I would do that, yes - place UTMB last since they have rejected you, and move your other schools up.

You mentioned - For all my schools - Is it many multiple schools that you ranked and did you have prematches from any of those multiple schools that you ranked. Just asking to be aware.

Yes, it is very uncommon. UTSW sent post II R before match day in the previous cycles. I don't think they did this year.

I wouldn’t worry about it, I’ve only found a few other people that got one. I applied to here pretty late by tmdsas standards as well so definitely could be in part from that.
 
Has anyone gone to any of the campus preview days? What were people generally wearing?

Also, does anyone know if there are any updates on this weekend's preview day given the current weather situation?

Definitely get in touch to see if they have cancelled the visit day
 
I ~believe~ Galveston will be back to normal by Thurs, given we will warm up tomorrow but admin will know best! And yes, every office is work from home through tomorrow.
 
Looks like temps are above freezing after this point, at least in the Houston area so preview day should in theory still be happening once ice on the roads melts.

Also watch for next rd of prematches - I’ve noticed they release a wave about 3:00pm after every preview day.

Interesting - how are the two events related if there is zero input of a visit to prematches?

Essentially I’ve noticed that about 2 hours after every preview day, people have reported prematches on SDN.

That essentially happened to me since I prematched after last wk after the preview day. No idea if they’re linked of if visiting preview day increases your chances or not.
 
Preview day has no impact on admissions according to UTMB and a bunch of replies here, but they could definitely have a pattern of sending prematches after those days. Doesn’t make much of a difference for most of us either way since I imagine our rank lists are coming to their final forms
