2024-2025 Wisconsin Secondary Essay Prompts (4 required, 1 optional)

1. The Admissions Committee is committed to holistic, mission-aligned evaluation of all applicants. Review our institution’s mission. Using specific examples, discuss how and why you believe you are a good fit for the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. (500 words max)

2. UW SMPH uses the AAMC’s Premed Competencies for Entering Medical Students as an applicant evaluation framework. Choose one of the professional competencies from the drop-down list that has been a point of pride or emphasis on your path to medical school. Using specific examples, describe how you have demonstrated it in your experiences to date. (250 words max)

3. Choose a different professional competency that has been another point of pride or emphasis. Using specific examples, describe how you have demonstrated this one in your experiences to date. (250 words max)

4. Many inequities exist at the intersection between health outcomes and historical, societal, economic, or other systemic factors. Choose a broader issue or policy that impacts health outcomes where you believe change is needed to advance health equity. Discuss the role you hope to play as a physician in addressing this issue. (250 words max)

Optional Essay

In a paragraph (200-300 words), please share how COVID-19 impacted your application in the following domains:

  • Academic
  • Volunteer
  • Research
  • Work
  • Personal Life
Topics to address might include the public health lessons and health care insights learned from the pandemic, creative ways in which you were able to serve your community during the crisis, or any hardships (economic, health, or other) you faced due to the virus or its mitigation efforts (e.g. social distancing, quarantine).

Good luck to all applying!

So you can't submit until August 25th??? I am confused I am a Wisconsin resident

+1 OOS secondary received. So for OOS applicants we can submit ASAP right, we don't have to wait?

Any other OOS not able to submit?
I was able to. You still have to fill out the residency form so they can confirm you as a non-resident. It won't show you a green checkmark but refresh after you complete it and you should be able to submit.

For the mission fit essay, the link to their mission also includes a list of 4 "values". Are we supposed to talk about those "values" or only what it mentions in their actual mission, like it says "remarkable service to patients and communities, outstanding education, and innovative research", so I wasn't sure if we were supposed to give examples of remarkable service, etc. or the 4 values instead

I was guessing the mission since it says to review the mission, but doesn't mention "Values" but I was wondering the same thing tbh

tbh idk why I had this school on my primary but would it be worth it to apply as CA resident with no ties?

Does anyone know when the WARM program applicants got interviewed last year?

Hey! I was lucky to get an II at UWisc today (MSTP) but am wondering if it is a bad look to ask them for a different date? I am supposed to be traveling (for a different in-person interview) on the second day of the interview they want me to attend, and I can't change my travel plans bc this other program is paying for my flight to interview 😭 How bad of a look is it to ask for a later date? i would rather cancel my other interview than lose this one with UWisc... should i cancel my other interview? any insight would be helpful if anyone here knows!

I don't think it would hurt you to ask UW for a different date, just say you had a prior commitment that would not allow you to attend the current date. Definitely wouldn't throw away your other interview. We're all humans, I'm sure they'll understand

Congrats!

Did either of you see an update in the residency part of the secondary? Or did the registrar reach out to confirm residency? Mine still just says "N/A" in that section.
Mine also says n/a, but I also submitted HEAB paper documents for MCW and that takes approximately 1 month, so I figure there may be a wait

Has anyone gotten an interview or know of people who got past acceptances that did not take PREview?

For anyone in state that received an interview, does your residency application part on your secondary portal say "N/A"?
I would also like to know.
Does anyone in state without an interview see N/A?
And to clarify what stroukump is referring to, we mean When you click "residency application" on the left column, then at the bottom of the block of text, it says "Residency Application Info: N/A (Timestamp)

IS No interview here, my residency application page just says "this page is complete"

Update: It says "Residency Application Info: Resident (8/25/2024 12:00:00 AM)"
