Quick question: for the secondaries, are we expected to hit the 5000 character limit or is it advised to cut down? The most characters I've done besides this one was 2000 characters so I'm wondering if 5000 would be really excessive?

From last year's thread, it seems like the consensus was 5,000 should be the upper limit, 3,000 being more ideal. I agree that it is an absurd amount of characters, so I will probably include a detailed specific example to add to the character count but won't try and push things where I am grasping at straws.

That's what I'm thinking because I have a detailed example for each prompt but I feel like I added some fluff to compensate for that upper limit so I think I'm going to cut it down a bit and see where it goes before submission.

They call me the yapper so I yapped for atleast 4000 on each

Anyone else having trouble logging into the applicant portal? I was able to log in the first time and pay the fee, but now it doesn't show where to log in again to see if my application is marked as completed.

is this essay really optional: "Use the space below if you would like to briefly discuss anything else that you want the Admissions Committee to know that you feel has not been covered in your primary and secondary applications." I feel like theres not much more left to say after basically writing three personal statement length essays.

which question are you referring to? I don't see the wording you used in the list we posted

P.S. guys I seem to have duplicated one question (What I have as #7 is actually attached to the bottom of #6)

Please confirm

its one of the questions they ask near the end but its not listed here
The longer essay asking about anything extra, I talked about dealing with racism growing up and how that affected my perspectives of medicine to incorporate culturally inclusive care and how I can use it in med school discussions.
The second shorter one, I talked about my uncle's suicide and how that led me to crisis text line, leading into the importance of mental health in medicine and supporting peers in medical school. I had crisis text line in my primary but I did not talk about the reason why I went into it.

i dont feel like i have anything to say though so it would be forced. Would it be bad to leave blank?

If you feel like your essay would not add to your application, I would leave it blank. I am not an adcoms though, just another applicant but I have heard from other successful applicants that writing extra essays that are just "fluff" can actually negatively impact your essay.

Quick question! Are they referring to if we went to their undergraduate program?

It is written on the secondary email to not submit the secondary application until all of your mcat scores are in, but for me personally this will mean I will not submit it until 5 weeks after receiving the secondary. Do you think this is fine?

Did anyone get the invitation email to their 3 year Accelerated Pathway Program? I just got it and I'm wondering how is it for anyone that knows someone who's done it?

I also got that and would like to hear opinions
Current med student here at the U (not in the 3 year program, but know people who are): If you feel like in your mind you can be settled on one specialty and one specialty only, and are also content with completing residency in Miami, then go for it! Just be aware though that they don't have a number of guaranteed seats in every specialty. So if you're looking for neurosurgery or orthopedics etc., you may not be able to get that through accelerated.

Otherwise general structure is basically: Identical phase 1 (preclinical curriculum) and phase 2, a month shorter for dedicated and then a greatly condensed phase 3. Also you can't do a dual degree with the accelerated.

Gotcha! How's the tuition like? Is it the same as the regular 4 year program or is it different?

Are you aware if the 3 year program is planning a pathway for otolaryngology/ENT, or are they fixed with the current list? Thank you!

The list on the website is the list on the website, afaik. And even then, just because program is listed as participating does not mean they're obliged to take students. ENT is one of those competitive enough specialties where I think they'd rather rely on their pool of normal applicants.

This school needs to be tried for war crimes sending an email with the subject line starting with "The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine Invites You to..."

I submitted my application a few days ago and it is showing status = received. Is that the same as complete? I also got an email "UMiami Miller RECEIVED your secondary application"
