2025-2026 UCF Secondary Essay Prompts: ( one question dropped from last year, wording otherwise unchanged )

1. Medical school demands significant personal sacrifices, including long hours, emotional stress, and sometimes compromising personal time. Can you describe how you have prepared yourself for these sacrifices and how you plan to maintain a healthy work-life balance while managing the responsibilities of a medical student? (Limit 750 characters)

2. Can you please recount an experience from your academic or personal life where you actively collaborated with others to achieve a common goal? How do you anticipate applying this collaborative approach in your future medical education and practice, taking into account the diverse perspectives and expertise within healthcare teams? (Limit: 750 characters)

3. We often hear that students want to pursue medicine to help people. Why did you choose medicine and not some other field where you can help others, such as nursing, physical therapy, pharmacology, psychology, education, or social work? (Limit 750 characters)

4. Tell us about something that is integral to understanding who you are as a person that we would not automatically know from reading your application. These may be things like qualities, characteristics, or events you feel are unique to your life experience. I am in state (currently attending UCF) and still haven't received, I'd wait and see if there is more action this coming week as they have only had one business day to send them out!

I submitted my secondary on 7/1 (marked completed on 7/2) and received an II on 8/19

Interview invites are not sent in order by which you have applied. Batches of completed applications are reviewed weekly by faculty for interview competitiveness and then groups of typically 17 or so are invited to interview (via email) each week. So we are working from a pool of competitive applicants who have been identified by the faculty as those they would like to put forward for an interview. I hope that helps.

A PDF with a brief overview and a link to the published work is perfectly fine. It doesn't have to be anything formal. I hope that helps.

Awesome! Yes the faculty member calling informed me that they typically do run through the upper third, but that it often occurs in April/May

At this point we have interviewed 379 applicants. Typically we interview between 500-515 by the end of February. The chatter might be slow on here, but we are on track for a normal season in terms of interview invite timeline.

By scores and extracurricular activities (520, 3.95, multiple years of research and hospital volunteering), I was hoping for an interview invite. But none so far. The only downfall is the essays. They were written with my own ideation and content, but I used AI to put them together. I just wondering if UCF use some type of anti-AI writing software to label essays with likelihood of AI generation (20, 40, 60% etc) if suspected above a certain percentage likelihood, application will not be reviewed or left at bottom of the barrel.

I am just scratching my head why no interview invite.

Of course there might be many extramural reasons for no interview invite, I am just wondering if that AI smoothing of essays is the culprit?

@SteyrFWB2 We do not use AI screening software. Applications at UCF are reviewed by faculty for interview decisions.

Honestly, this process is so extremely unpredictable. That being said, I do think there may be some extra scrutiny that is unfairly placed on high stat applicants in the admissions process here at UCF, just based on pure publicly available data and numbers (cycletrack, admit, reddit) and also some anecdotal evidence. This isnt the first time I’ve heard of exceptionally qualified applicants getting ghosted by UCF while getting in to other highly competitive schools, both in Florida and out of state. At the same time, I've also seen others with relatively lower metrics and weaker applications that have gotten in (anecdotal of course). Sure a part of it could be luck, but I think these patterns suggest UCF doesn't seems to value stats or objective measures as much as they claim to in their admissions process, and maybe even engage in yield-protection practices or have slight biases. It is really sad because many of these high-achieving Floridians that would love to attend UCF often end up matriculating at OOS schools to the deficit of Central Florida.

Given the transparency that the UCF adcom seems to display, it would be nice to have an objective breakdown of what they actually look for in applicants, rather than subjective fluff. For reasons like this, I think schools like FSU and USF should be praised because at least they are clear about what they look for in applicants. Perhaps you could try reaching out at the end of the cycle to get a more specific reason as to what may have happened.

Certainly understand the agony with the obscure process, but what i have seen with not just UCF but most of the Med school's is that they are reviewing the applications "holistically", not just the "high stats". Attitude,service,empathy.
