It has been canceled for COM 2021. Now wondering how soon COM 2022 will be able to test, if they still have us test.

Nice but mostly this is forcing the schools to graduate everyone and not do that weird KCU and LECOM (I think) thing where they pretend like it should still be a requirement to graduate even after the boards said it's up to the schools they don't care. It's just a statement forcing a few schools to do the right thing because they wouldn't do it of their own volition.

We still haven't had PE cancelled.

Just planning to take Step 3 at this point if I match in one of the 43 states where that's allowed

So take it after graduation and still need it for LEVEL 3. Typical NBOME announcement.

how is this an update? They all came out and made that joint statement that is wasn’t required for graduation months ago. I got excited an actual update had come lol.

The semantic difference is that before it was "at the discretion of the schools" now it's "it's not a requirement to graduate"

Oh I see. While I was hoping for a “it’s waived for class of 2021 as a requirement for Level 3 and licensure.”

Now the question is if PE will need to be taken during intern year like Level 3 is.
Slight clarification but level 3 doesn’t “need” to be taken during intern year. Lots of people don’t take it during pgy1, for whatever reason

completely program dependent. Some residency programs require it to be taken by December of intern year.
Sure, that information added literally 0 to what I was saying. The original statement was spoken in totality, which i clarified and you... um... said the same thing in a different form.

USMLE Step 2 CS: Design phase begins for modified assessment – new podcast available

Posted: November 19, 2020
To continue providing information to the medical regulation and education community about work progressing toward the relaunch of a modified United States Medical Licensing Examination® (USMLE®) Step 2 Clinical Skills (CS) exam, a new podcast from the USMLE program is now posted for listening and sharing with others.
The discussion covers the following topics that were addressed as part of the discovery phase of developing and implementing a modified Step 2 CS assessment:
  1. The USMLE program’s two-pronged strategy to revitalize performance-based assessment over the short and long term.
  2. Feedback received this summer from stakeholders in the medical regulation and education communities, through focus groups and surveys.
  3. Preliminary information about the format of the modified Step 2 CS exam.

We recognize that there will be many questions regarding when exam administrations will begin, the content that will be tested, how the exam will be scored, further specifics about exam format and delivery, and performance feedback, among others. These are being investigated and defined as part of the next phase – the design phase – of this work. We are also cognizant of the important implications that relaunching the modified Step 2 CS exam will have on residency match timelines, curriculum calendars, and temporary eligibility policy changes that are in effect for both USMLE Step 3 and Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG®) certification. Ultimately, we strive to relaunch the exam at a time that balances these many factors. We anticipate that we will be able to provide information regarding an anticipated implementation date in early 2021.
In the meantime, please visit here for more information and updates as the initiative progresses.

THEY JUST CAN'T LET GO THAT MONEY IS ALL I HEAR FROM THE PODCAST.

For those of you stuck with a failed PE/CS like me how has it affected you this cycle? I have average stats for my specialty but lagging in interviews. Preparing to drop the SOAP in the shower come march.

Bruh that stinks. I applied very broadly and full steam ahead in a moderately competitive specialty, with very low expectations. It’s gone well. Have gotten one direct question about it so far, usually I just bring it up and own it. Really glad I didn’t waste energy putting it in my PS. Keep your chin up. It ain’t over til it’s over

Are you an MD or DO?

Lol, my school did a Zoom Q&A and they were (diplomatically) ****ting on the NBOME. They told us they're trying to get this requirement waived (so we can all take level 3), but apparently everyone at the NBOME has their heads up their butts.

Yup....I still don’t see how they’ll be able to get us all tested prior to graduation. Certainly not in time for anyone to get results before graduation.

What school?

#11 on my rank list is in a state that requires PE. I'm praying I don't drop that much

Edit: I get excited every time I get an invite from a non-PE state. The thought of taking this test makes me wanna throw up

I do not believe the virus situation is going to be all that much better on April 1 than it is now. If they re-implement the test on that date I would be very shocked. Still predicting we (Class of 2021) will never take this test. *vigorously knocks on wood

*Dramatic intro music*
The year is 2025, I have already done an intern year with an icu rotation or two and I am now an R3 preparing for the infamous CORE exam which is really, really hard. I did not have any performance issues during intern year and I have not seen a patient in 3 years. I receive an email from the NBOME.

"Dear super unique and special osteopathic physicians,

We are pleased to announce that you now have the honor and privilege to register for your PE exam for the class of 2021. Can you believe that we made it happen so fast (only 6 years wow!) and beat those MDs who have still not made their students take their fake patient exam? We truly are a cut above the rest in DO world. Our safety studies show that even after being a doctor for years you will be safer having taken this exam.

With upmost holism, **** you! Pay me!
- Osteopathic doctor Gimpel."

Simply ignoring it until I see which state I match in

What are the states that don’t require PE? (For ranking purposes 🤣)

Go raise hell on social media. Anonymously if you wish. It worked before and it can work now. Complaining about all this on SDN won’t fix a thing.

Also, @jbcarmody is trashing the NBOME on Twitter as we speak. Join him.

Also here's a crazy proposal:

Get rid of COMLEX and DO boards and have all DOs take Steps and the usual MD boards
I was hoping this would eventually happen. But this last week my school had a presentation NOMBE that Gimpel was supposed to present, he was "unavailable" so someone else presented it for him. The first slide was talking about the NOMBE was distinctly Osteopathic and the only real tests able to gauge a DO. I think as long as they get money the NOMBE will not fold

Lol their delusions run deep.

The guy who aggressively pushed for Step 1 to go P/F is suddenly a hero for all CS and PE opponents

EXAM DESCRIPTION
The Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Variable-Purpose Examination (COMVEX), developed by the NBOME for osteopathic physicians holding or that have held a valid license to practice osteopathic medicine in the United States, provides an opportunity for professionals to demonstrate basic osteopathic medical competency.

The COMVEX examination provides state medical licensing boards with reports and information on an individual’s knowledge of current osteopathic medical knowledge and practice under standardized conditions.

  • COMVEX examinations evaluate the depth & breadth of basic osteopathic medical knowledge, using the same assessment foundation as COMLEX-USA.

Wait i just saw this. So there's COMLEX, COMVEX, and CONVEX? why is NBOME being so COMPLEX?
