Any out of state people heard from Ohio?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I haven't heard anything yet!

I was a little curious how OSU handled the out of state people. Did they have one giant out-of-state interview marathon (like KSU)? Did they give any info on how many out-of-states they interview? How long did they notify you before your interview?

I sort of assumed that because they need so many in-staters that the out-of- state people hear back last...basically if the in-state GPA and GRE numbers were too low, then they'd know they'd have to pick only the top out of state so their average was higher.

Any ideas/input?

I'm not sure how they do it either--I'm under the impression that they've already had some interviews for non-residents, and have admitted some. I was notified last week by mail that I got an interview for March 14th, to give you an idea of the window. I withdrew my application, though, so I don't have any more info.--sorry!

Hrm...thanks for responding.

I got a letter saying that I would know either way by the end of March. Seems like Ohio really moves everything along pretty quickly. I know they only give you something like 10 days to accept if you are offered....but for in-state applicants it's a little meaningless because the deposit is so small ($25 I think).

I'm curious how many people hang onto their seat and then ditch it at the last minute. They *must* fill those 97 seats with Ohio residents...so I wonder how many "extra" they budget for the late withdraws.

I am an out-of-stater and have an interview scheduled March 24. I actually just arrived in Ohio today. I drove from Pennsylvania to "scope it out" and see if I even want to interview. Seems like my interview's fairly late in the game though, at least probably the last group. Good luck!

I am an out of stater who interviewed at Ohio on the 21st of Feb (yesterday). They told me right after my interview that I was automatically going to be offered a seat in the class because of my score and that I have until April 15th to make my final decision. I had been notified of my interview about three weeks ago.

As far as the interview went, it felt really laid back and my interviewers were really nice and interested in getting to know more about me and not just me as the prevet student, but my other interests and extracurriculars.

OSU does rolling admissions. They interview applicants (beginning with in-state since the Ohio Board of Regents requires that OSU seats 97 of the 140 seats in the class with OH residents and 5 or so contract seats from WV) on a weekly basis. Interviews are held on Tuesdays. The Admissions committee meets every Tuesday to discuss the applications of those who interviewed from the previous week and then they make decisions. If you receive an interview, you are given a sheet of paper at the interview that details all of this info further.

I called yesterday to find out my status and I was offered an interview (I just hadn't received the letter yet). I'm interviewing on April 3 because of a conflict with a final on March 24. It's good to hear that the interview was laid back, from posts I've read in the past it had sounded so stressful...do they just ask you the basic questions during the interview (ie: why do you want to come here, be a vet, etc).

I'm from NY and was accpeted to OSU way back in October, so I don't think they have any special out of state marathon interviews or anything like that...

In October?? How is that even possible? Did you interview? My understanding was that OSU started interviews in January, and I was pretty sure they didn't offer seats without an interview.
Ohio State seems extremely disorganized in their entire admissions process. I must say I'm pretty unimpressed. I also called to check my status and was asked to schedule an interview over the phone when I called. I was confused, so I asked if I was going to get an interview letter anyway, and the lady just gave me some wishy washy answer about how some days were now available. It was VERY strange, but I'd hate to think that they are wasting my time with an interview just because I called.
They don't invest a whole lot into the interviews, either. They give you an optional tour at noon on your interview day, which left a lot to be desired. Nothing like other schools I've visited.

If your GPA is 3.9+, your GRE is equivalent, and you got the application complete fairly early you're very likely to get a call from OSU on Oct 1st (application deadline) to set up an interview.....if from there you don't show up drunk or naked, you're likely to get accepted.

Glad someone else thought the tour was kinda lacking

My interview is at 10 am -- aren't they only 30 minutes long? What do you do between the interview and the tour? Are there current students to talk to?

I interviewed last year as well, and I haven't done the tour this year - only last year... but as far as I know, it hasn't changed so.... my answer would be that there is nothing to do between the interview and the tour. My interview last year was in the AM, and I ended up leaving to go get some lunch and then coming back for the tour. :\

Yea, I emailed them yesterday, and they said I have been rejected and that they are sending out the letters "soon". Booo! 🙁

I'm sorry to hear that 🙁 🙁 🙁 Hopefully you're still waiting to hear from other schools as well.
I am rather surprised they told you that over the phone. They're usually so weird about "privacy" issues - they won't even post your actual decision to the online status page, just tell you that a decision is made or whatever but that you have to wait for the snailmail letter to know exactly what's going on because of "prviacy issues."
You poor thing though, I'm so sorry!

Yes, I was interviewed back in September, on one of their first days. Good luck with yours.
