I know several recent graduates of AZCOM who are quite pleased with the education they received at the school. The opinions of recent graduates mean more to me than some random doctors who didn't attend the school and aren't familiar with the program.
Are those physicians you talked to aware of what the school is doing to increase rotations opportunities, such as expanding access to clerkships within Arizona, starting the Ohio rotations this year etc? I am guessing not. So I would definitely think students who are currently in the program and working with administration are a lot more qualified to evaluate how the school is doing than random physicians who are just going off their own biased opinions without really knowing anything about it.
Trust me, I'm one of those people who makes decisions slowly and carefully after REALLY looking into the issue. I was concerned about the availability of clinical rotations in the beginning - that was my biggest concern. That's why I talked to current students on this forum (and even another current student over the phone), and even met up with the assistant dean to discuss the clerkship situation. That's how nervous I was, and how proactive I am about getting appropriate guidance. But after talking with them all, I saw that current and former students were really happy with the education, and I've been told that as long as a student is proactive he/she can get a solid education here. (I did meet a few students who had some concerns about clinicals, but those concerns were merely things for me to consider while going through the program - not reasons to NOT attend the school.) I also dug up the old match lists, and was very pleased to see students match into excellent residencies. So after actively pursuing answers to my questions, I am not worried about things. Yes, we may need to be proactive about our education, but others before us have gotten a quality education from this school, and so can we. Although we need to be well-informed (and not keep our heads in the clouds), there is no particular cause for alarm - as AZCOM is a solid program.
