I'm also still undecided as to whether or not I want to accept the offer -- not sure if I want to pay $550+/mo anymore (including electricity) and I'm also waitlisted at a couple other schools and probably shouldn't have made any housing arrangements until June/July -- I matched into the new 2 bd/2 ba luxury apts with upgrades (building K first floor); my roommate seems like a really nice girl, please PM me if you are interested in taking my spot and I will email Jose.

btw, for those of us declining the on-campus housing, how much of our $500 deposit do we lose?

I can't remember exactly, but we either GET 300 of it back or we LOSE 300 of it....hopefully its the first choice.

I landed the 1 bedroom with a Den in complex C....i'm waitlisted at an in-state school but if I don't get in at least I know I have a place to live in Arizona 🙂

I think we have to decide by May to get any refund. I doubt it will be the full amount. It wouldn't matter either way, because I think just like with the AZCOM deposit, this might be something I have to take up even though I am too waitlisted at a state school.

By the way, how did you manage to quadruple post within a 5 minute interval? 😕

So an interesting thing just happened.... I was looking online and my housing assignment changed to the same arrangement except different building and different floor (1st).... strange...... anyone else have this happen?

I think you have to decide before may. Before they changed my offer it was posted online but I didn't receive an email. Now that it was changed I did get an email and it said I have until Friday April 3rd to accept the offer.

I think you loose the $300 (application fee?) and the other $200 are returned (security deposit).

mine hasn't been changed. still have the same housing assignment.

I got the same email... not on my personal email, but through the Midwestern email system on my new student email account. This is what it says:

"Congratulations! You have been assigned on-campus housing! To accept your housing offer, please go to the link below and select your move-in date by 5:00 PM Friday, April 3, 2009. Note: depending upon the date of move-in, per diem costs may apply. If you decide to decline the offer, however, please understand that your $300 application fee will be lost, but your $200 security deposit will be refunded."

So guess we have until this Friday to make decisions. I've been trying to contact the Residence Life office several times to ask questions, but keep getting voice mail.

I interviewed last Friday, i really wanna go here so im really nervous!
how long have people been waiting to hear the good (hopefully) news?

If I recall correctly the committee meets the first Thursday of each month. I may be wrong but I had read it on here a while back and I interviewed on 2/25 (I think) and they met on the first thursday in March and I called the next day.

Re: on-campus housing email

I also got that same email. I think I am going to try and switch to a cheaper option (but still on-campus housing). I will let everyone know if this is successful or if I will end up having to completely withdraw my current application, forfeit my $300, and reapply again.

Rkaz, have you decided what you are going to do yet?

Did anyone else sign up for a random roommate? They don't give any information about the person except his/her name...how the hell am I supposed to find out who's bringing the plasma screen? 😛

The best thing to do is call after the comittee meets...i interviewed on monday and found out on a friday

My random roommate and I added each other on facebook. Not sure if you have an account, but that's one way to get in touch with each other!

Yeah the key is finding out when they meet, I think its the first thurs of every month.... look at the dates people posted that they interviewed (earlier in the thread) and the dates they found out or what they found out when they called admissions and asked when the committee meets.

i think its usually more like every other thursday...most people hear in 2 weeks or less. so don't get your hopes up for a decision being made this week just because it will be the first thursday...but definitely try calling friday morning to see. if not this week, should be next week.

Am i crazy if I live in a single with a den by myself? It is 730 per month (without electricity but includes everything else for those that don't know about their on-campus housing). I have lived in the dorms all 4 years of undergrad and have never paid rent so i have no idea how this works.

If I remember correctly it was only like 30 bucks more than the single but like 100+ more than the studio. Can anyone talk about space issues and if a roommate would be worth it? I definitely want to stay on campus cuz i'm not from AZ and I feel that it would be the best choice for me to familiarize myself with the area.

Also, does anyone have a clue what happens if we accept the offer but end up attending a different school? Will they take the full 500 away?

Thanks for any respsonses 🙂

PS: I have no clue what the COA is but I would hope to also get a car when I got out there too (if possible), would having a $730 rent hinder this option?

I don't think you are crazy at all for living in a 1 bed with den alone, I am doing the same thing (although maybe I'm crazy too 😀). I lived in the dorms for 2 years and I have lived with 3 roommates for 2 years and I am ready to have a little bit of my own space, at least for the first year.

Personal preference also has a lot to do with it because for $685 you could get a studio with upgrades. I prefer having the places where I sleep and work separate because I do study at home a lot and one wall makes quite a bit of difference. Not sure about the roommate and space issue or the cancellation issue either. I would think that if you cancel they give you the security deposit back but keep the other $300 (application fee) so long as you cancel before the lease starts but I think it would be safer to call Jose.

I don't think they have decided on the COA yet. They should have because I think award letters are supposed to start coming out this month (I think) but they have not updated their website, nor have they been able to tell me what it is by phone.

Thanks for the response dr maxwell. I will probably accept the offer I was just a little stressed out last night about loans and realizing that I will actually be way in debt after a few years... I guess we r all in the same boat tho.

What complex r u in? I'm in C on the first floor. Unless I hear from my state school, I look forward to meeting u in august.

I totally understand that, we've all been there. These numbers are not small by any standards, and stresses like that only get worse at night after a long day. For what its worth I used to be on 3rd floor of D but now I am 1st floor in A. Good luck on the state school but if you end up at AZCOM I look forward to meeting you as well!

has anyone talked to former students or anything on how long it takes to pay off around 200k in debt?

I logged into my azcom email for the first time today and it was full of spam...Anyone else have the same problem?

Wow, I don't have this problem... by inbox is clean, the only few messages I have in it are from the school. That's a bummer for you. Maybe there was someone before you with the same name as a student? You might just want to ask the school to give you another email address.

Edit: the only emails I have thus far in my inbox are: 1. an email about immunizations, 2. four emails on financial aid (reminding me to finish the aid process), and 3. an email about my housing offer. I am assuming you aren't referring to those emails as spam.

I have tons of spam too... let me know if you find a way to get rid of it...

Yeah my inbox was full of spam as well. I read on here, that people had received e-mails regarding the housing placements, but I didn't receive any such e-mail on the campus webmail. I haven't received anything official actually, I had 13 e-mail all related to how I can 'enhance' something😱

Rkaz, have you decided what you are going to do yet?

I'm still not entirely sure, but I think perhaps I should just go ahead and accept the 1 bedroom apartment. It has everything I need. I think, like others here, I was just getting freaked out thinking about the nearly $900/month rent on top of the $43,000 tuition... and being in $200,000 of debt when I graduate. Thus I was freaking out. The 2 bedroom option is a great way to save money sharing with someone else. I think it's just important to find someone fairly compatible, as med school is difficult enough without having an incompatible roommate on top of everything else. I'm sure most people will do just fine though. So I'm leaning towards staying in a 1 bedroom, though if I totally click with someone first year, maybe I could live with that person for second year. That's what I'm thinking right now. The financial aspect is pretty mind-boggling though. :scared:

The rent is crazy, especially for those of us who live in lower cost-of-living areas. My current roommate and I split a 750 square foot apartment right now for a total cost of $500. After utilities. It's a low price even for the area I live in now, but when you get used to spending $250 a month, suddenly paying $517.50 seems like a lot. It definitely took a bit of strength to click that 'accept housing assignment' button.

where i am from it was very easy to click that accept button

i had spam too, but you can change the preferences in your account. now it's all good.

Could you elaborate on this process please...I have 29 emails, 2 of which are actual e-mails from the school. Something needs to be fixed lol.

Thanks!!

After 3 days of trying to reach the Residence Life office (they were extremely busy working on the housing assignments), I finally got in touch with Jose and asked him a few questions. Some of them were specific to my particular situation (as I'm in building K - one of the new buildings), but I thought his responses would still be useful to everyone else. (Though please realize that the responses are in my words, so I hope I don't misrepresent him in any way.) Here's what I asked him:

1. When is the earliest we can move in?
-Answer: The new apartments are supposed to be complete by mid-July, so moving in before July 31st or August 1st would be difficult. If someone really needed to move in earlier, like mid-July, they would need to speak to Jose about it... however, this would be on a case-by-case basis. This only applies to the D.O. program - as those coming into other programs (like P.A. etc) are allowed to move in at different times depending on their start dates.

2. Is there any storage facilities on campus, like if we want to buy stuff from departing students in May and keep it there over the summer?
-Answer: No.

3. Does the new building have an elevator?... that would make moving in much easier for those on the upper floors.
-Answer: No. To get to 3rd floor you'll have to climb stairs, though it would be good exercise.

4. Anything else about 3rd floor of the new buildings? (This question was from a previous conversation with him.)
-Answer: 3rd floor has vaulted ceilings.

5. Does the first floor luxury apartments have a private patio (the way the upper floors have balconies)? I mean, is there a fence around the first floor patio as opposed to just open space that anyone can walk into?
-Answer: Yes, it is a fenced patio for the luxury first floor apartments.

6. If we change our selections, do we lose our current spot and go to the end of the waitlist?
-Answer: Not necessarily. It depends which apartment you are interested in. If the apartment you want to move into is still available, it may be possible to work things out without having to go to the back of the line.

7. Which apartments are still full/vacant?
-Answer: Studios are now full. There are still some spaces available in the luxury 1 and 2 bedroom apartments. (I'm unaware of the status of apartments in the older buildings, as I didn't specifically ask him on this.)

8. Is there a fee for moving in earlier than August 1st? I know the new apartments aren't available until the 30th anyways, but if we move in on the 31st (since we'll be moving out of our current apartments in July) is there an extra fee for that day?
-Answer: Yes. It's just one day, so you'll just pay 1 day per-diem. (It's similar to the monthly cost divided by 30 to get the cost of 1 day.)

9. What about covered parking?
-Answer: You don't sign up for it until you get to school. The housing office doesn't accept any phone reservations. It's on a first-come basis. The cost is $30 per quarter, which is approximately $10 per month.

click options on the left side of your e-mail once you log in. look for "Privacy and Junk E-mail Prevention" (it's in black bold and is the third main section of the options list).

click "Filter Junk E-mail. Check the Junk E-mail folder regularly to ensure that you do not miss messages that you want to receive"

when i checked my e-mail last month, there was a lot of spam. a month later, after checking it for the first time since, I only got the housing assignment e-mail so it seems to work well (i checked my junk e-mail just in case and everything in it is just that...junk).

I have an interview the last week of April. Does anyone who interviewed earlier have any advice or perks/bummers about AZCOM? 😀

Well thats kind of a loaded question but I would suggest you thumb through the earlier parts of this thread for perks/bummers. There are a lot of great posts in here that both pose questions/concerns as well as answer questions. So that would be my first suggestion, you will get a lot of insight into how people felt about the campus and the programs.

As for advice, don't be nervous and enjoy your time there. The interviewers I had were very laid back and the staff at the school were incredibly nice and helpful. Make sure you do the typical interview/tour stuff like talk to students and ask lots of questions. I don't really have any complaints/bummers. I wish I could have seen the inside of the apartments so I could have an idea what mine is going to look like but I wasn't thinking about that at the time.

As for perks, you will find them spread through out this forum thread but personally I loved the people I talked to there including the other folks interviewing. The campus is awesome and the constant sunshine seems to keep everyone there happy. My interview was during quarter exams so everyone was stressed to high hell but they still seemed to be smiling and generally upbeat (it was kind of weird, but awesome at the same time). Other than that, thumb through here and you will find more info. Hope that helps and good luck with the interview!:luck:!

Hey guys, I was thinking that those of us already accepted should probably move the housing discussion over to the osteopathic class threads http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=570518

It will probably make it easier for students who are still interviewing and trying to find information about the school to not have to read all our housing discussion at this time (even though it was my fault for starting the housing discussion over here).

I got a floorplan picture for the luxury 1 bedroom over on the other thread (unfortunately it's just the 1 bedroom apartment, as he didn't send me any other floorplans for other models). So for those interested, please check it out on the thread above.

Stupid question time:

If I am accepted to AZCOM and get (hypothetically) an A, couple B's, and a C this semester wold that get me booted? I didn't see anything in the matriculation agreement that said we had to get a certain GPA our last semester...just want to make sure that I won't get kicked out of med school for getting a C in one of the hardest classes i've taken so far (poor choice to take this semester, but required for graduation). Thanks for any info!

This is a pretty common question on the forums and the only real consensus is that the schools reserve the right to reject anyone for any reason post acceptance. That said, you'd have to bomb the semester and then some to really make them reconsider you.

I'd say just do your best with what you have now. 1 C won't change your position I don't think, especially if the rest of the classes look okay. The idea is that any school doesn't want to see you stop caring completely after the acceptance. It doesn't look like that for you, so just do your best.

I am pretty sure they wouldn't care if you had straight C's (passing). I've heard it's a lot of paper work and trouble to officially rescind an acceptance, and I get the impression they'd rather avoid that esp. when dealing with 250 acceptees. But I'm not an adcom -- I guess I would just do your best but I would seriously be shocked if they rescinded your offer because of one C.

i recently called them and asked if I could change all my courses not needed for graduation to pass/fail and they said i could.

Thanks flu and renny for the responses

time2go, that is pretty awesome haha

I actually went back to the Matriculation agreement and it said they would consider denying the acceptance offer if you did not maintain the minimum GPA to apply, which I think is 2.7 or something like that. I definitely will be above that, lol.

I just got a test back in this class and was a lot lower than I thought it would be so i freaked out a little bit. The class is called Mammalian Reproductive Endocrinology and it was the only class left that I could take for my concentration...soo pissed lol.

Anyone know when these will be posted to our accounts?

Not sure if they should already be there and I incorrectly filled out the FAFSA or something... this is all so confusing.

Somewhere I read that we should get them around now but I don't think they can award money until they determine the cost of attendance, which I don't think they have done either. I intend on calling the financial aid office Monday to ask a few questions so I will be sure to post anything I hear.

which buildings are the "New" buildings?

They're the ones that are still in the building process. They're closer to the interstate so a little farther from campus so maybe 30 seconds to a minute longer to walk there.

i'm in apartment F...is that a new building?

for the class of 2013....what do you think tuition will rise to by the time we graduate?
