AZCOM Discussion Thread 2011-2012

interviewed May 11... my portal just changed and now has an accepted student checklist with all my information. I haven't received a call, email, or letter though. Does that mean that I am accepted?

I believe when I found out (albeit, this was over two years ago so my recollection may be off a bit), it was about 6:00pm local-time, so yes. Again, the system seems to do its own thing so it's not unheard of for the first portal updates to start at, say, 4:00pm, and then for there to continue being updates much of the evening.

Also, now that the first portal updates seem to be rolling out, those of you who haven't seen a change already: don't go into a panic. Like I've said, the portal seems to update sporadically throughout the afternoon/evening.

Omg I just got accepted!!! I completely did not expect this! I thought I butchered the interview! I'm so excited!
 
Congrats to all who've been accepted!!

I have been accepted for a while, and I was all set on attending, but I just got off the waitlist for UT-San Antonio which I just had assumed would never happen. Now I am so confused because I had convinced myself AZCOM was the right place for me and it's difficult to go back to my initial choice. Any advice?

Cost of attendance (azcom tuition is 50k +) ? DO vs MD preference?

As somebody from Texas who's been happy with their AZCOM education thus far, I can still honestly say that I would've taken a UT-SA acceptance over an AZCOM one without even needing to think about it.

I just called and I am on the alternate list. The lady on the phone told me that there are 147 people on the alternate list as of today and the list will not grow anymore. Congrats to those who have been accepted and good luck to everyone on the alternate list.
 
Grats to all accepted and I'll see those who plan on attending next year. Good luck to the alternates. You never know what may happen between now and August.
 
I just got called off the waiting list. I interviewed on 4/4 and wasn't expecting to hear anything. I am so excited!

Don't give up hope fellow waitlisters!

147 is ridiculous. Considering that students have already been taken off the list, it was probably around 160 or higher at it's peak. I don't even think LECOM's wait list is that big. With how expensive it is for non-regional students to fly out to an interview, they should be more selective with who they invite. Either that or at least give students an idea of whether or not they are high/intermediate/low on the list so they can better plan for the near future.
 
Just remember that the class size is 250... Lecom's class size is only 135. You should know that the later in the season, the less seats available.
 
There was a spreadsheet posted in another thread on this site that had info on all DO schools regarding class profile, match rates, etc. It listed the LECOM (Erie and SH) class size as 390. I could be wrong, but I think there is only one wait list for both campuses.

And I do realize that a late application is less likely to result in an acceptance. It's finals week and I'm sleep deprived and cranky, hah. Didn't mean to sound so negative.

Does anyone know if the preceptor based rotations at AZCOM are considered green book?

I had to look up what the heck a green book rotation even was...That being said, I'll uncertainly say that they are not all green book as there are definitely a great number of rotations that likely have you never stepping foot in a hospital that has a residency in the field you happen to be rotating in during a given month (if you even happen to set foot in a hospital that month) or the hospitals aren't teaching hospitals. I also don't think it really matters, as AZCOM's students don't seem to be struggling to match into residencies or in obtaining licenses. Again, I could definitely be mistaken in my interpretation though since I've just learned of "green book" rotations in the past ten minutes.

Like random said, send it to office of admissions but just start it with To Whom It May Concern/sir or madam or whatever. For some reason though, I forget if this is a bad idea or not. Jim Walters is technically the admissions director if I remember but this is something worth calling for.

True. Though, there's not a whole lot going on here for any of us to say/do anyway now that interviews are over and people on the WL have given up or haven't had their mid-summer freak outs yet.

Unfortunately, that and gearing up for the next cycle are really all you can do at this point, excluding any new grade and MCAT updates. Hopefully good news heads your way some time this summer, though. 👍

Thank you I appreciate the words of encouragement 😳 already ready to send out my new primaries on Friday (ughhhhhhhh)
 
Did anyone who withdrew their acceptance get any sort of confirmation? I called and emailed twice to withdraw mine over two weeks ago and I haven't heard anything from them, I want to make sure I am not holding multiple acceptances so I dont lose my other seat.
 
As long as you paid your deposit for the other school you won't lose your seat
