Does anyone have any thoughts about these 3 programs or had to make a similar decision? This situation is still hypothical as I have yet to hear from any of the CA schools I interviewed at.

CA is my ideal location for medical school because my family is here and I wan't the best chance of getting a CA residency when that time comes along. That is my main pull towards UCI over Baylor and NYU. However, even though UCI is a great program I personally liked Baylor and NYU more and think they have a much better clinical training program. If reputation is considered I think UCI places 3rd, too.

When considering NYU and Baylor both of them are known for having great clinical training ( Baylor with TMC and NYU with Bellvue) and have strong emphasis' on public and global health which is important to me. Reputation wise- I believe they are pretty much equal ( am I correct?)

NYU wins in terms of location in my book- I've been told that having the opportunity to live in NYC for at least a few years is an opportunity that should never be turned down. Overlooking all external factors NYU was also my favorite and I think the school is an absolutely perfect fit for me- but- then there is cost. NYU will be about $15,000 more per year than UCI and about $22,000 more than Baylor. A few physicians have given me the advice to eliminate cost from the picture unless it is a matter of more than a 50% difference.

I realize these are all good choices and I know I could be happy at any of these schools- somehow that makes the decision so much more complicated...

Very simple, if your goal is to do residency in CA you should go to UCI.

Keep in mind that the cost of living in NYC is VERY high. Also, the weather won't be as great as it is in California. Unless you are prepared to move across the country and deal with colddd winters and extra debt, then I would stay in California.

Good luck on your prospects!

I would go to UCSF if you get in.
