so the letter of intent shouldn't include any updates? how long should it be then, half a page?
I'm not sure what an ideal length should be tbh, I'm debating sending one as well. From what I hear from others, the more concise, the better. Here is what it says on Baylor's webpage: "If you have not received an invitation to interview at Baylor then you can send updates through the application system. If or when you receive an invitation to interview, updates to your application will not be accepted. Those who have interviewed may send "letters of intent" through the application system, but not updates to their application."

they are receiving a letter - how do they know what you are calling it to reject one while accepting the other?
Im simply quoting what Baylor said directly on their website. You can put whatever you want in the letter, but I would probably follow the guidelines they gave
do you think sending a letter of intent, but maybe including one or two brief updates would be good? in my secondaries I mention starting an extracurricular activity, I have started it now so should I include it (and maybe add a brief anecdote)? I also started a new research project in my current lab, should I mention it? I feel like simply stating a letter of intent would be really short, and not meaningful.

It reads like you need to send letters of intent until the time they put you on waitlist but after the interview while submitting updates after the waitlist.
Stating that "I really really really really want to come to BCM" after they have interviewed someone, reviewed the person thru multiple prematch cycles and a match before placing that person on waitlist doesn't add any additional value. The only way it would add value is saying I really really want to come and by the way since we talked and updated last time, here is what I have done that adds more value to my application in case you still need to fill a position.

For anyone in the know (students, adcoms, parents, anyone), do we know how they decide who gets Baylor and who gets Temple? It's personal preference first from what I know, but what about those who put Houston as top choice and then matched to Temple? Did we rank lower on their list? Were they looking for something specific? Most importantly, there any indications it'll be harder for us to match to competitive specialties and programs and make connections compared to our Houston friends? I like Baylor a lot but this is a big snag that's really confusing to navigate and no one seems to know anything about. If this comes off as rude or offensive, I'm sincerely sorry, just getting in here is a huge accomplishment. I'm just trying to figure out how to make my decisions.
This campus choice issue has been discussed extensively in this message thread, so please take the time to read all the explanations.
Both campuses are Baylor to be clear.
The location assignment is Houston or Temple.

And apologies for the wording error, in my tired brain, Baylor - Houston is Baylor and Baylor - Temple is Temple, even though they're the same. As an aside, your byline about comparison seems apt in this situation. Thief of joy indeed.

Thank you for your kind and detailed response, it clears up quite a bit and I truly appreciate it. I wish there was more transparency to prevent feelings of inadequacy and confusion like mine, and I'll be sure to pass this tidbit along to friends of mine struggling with the same questions. Just so I understand, it sounds like they take everyone who ranked Houston first (besides the MD/PhD peers and other similar cases), do a bit of a random lottery with the rest of us, balance out diversity and stats as needed, and by luck/"lottery," some people end up in Temple?
If anyone reads this after, for what it's worth, I've also heard/read that the Temple dean selects for "entrepreneurial spirit"...any validity to this from what you know? It would align with some of what I've seen. Anyway, thank you again.

It's most relevant to read this year's thread as the details are a little different from when the second campus was established 3 years ago.
I don't think you are really "confused" though, but more like unhappy you didn't get what you wanted.

A bit of both, Dr. Wysdoc. Unhappy due to feelings of inadequacy like I said - now cleared up and mostly allayed, thankfully to these kind people - but also confused on how the differences between campus could potentially impact my future and how this internal match process work.
Also, on the chance that's your actual cat, please tell them they're a very good boy/girl and very cute. Appreciate the advice again.

Does anyone know until when scholarships are distributed and approx what % of students get one?
Am but humble student so take with salt: scholarships can keep trickling in until May, from what I’ve heard from BCM friends at Temple and Houston who help out with the adcom. They don’t really go out in waves, just individual when they feel like it.
Don’t know what/how many students get one, I’d imagine not many (it’s Baylor, the name is pull enough for most), but (anecdotally, N=4) it seems like Temple kids may be at a slightly higher rate of getting them/getting more as a draw to Temple.
Congrats! Do you mind sharing your stats?
I dont believe they have a summer.

there's only a 4 week summer so not long enough for a formal summer program but possible to do any activity on your own accord - or simply to take an actual vacation

Has anyone OOS gotten into BCM this cycle? With the waitlist email coming months earlier than normal + uncertainty of campuses, I'm starting to give up on BCM
There were a couple of OOS As reported around Nov-December I think, but historically pretty much all OOS WL movement only happens on May 1st

Do we think they’re done giving out scholarships?
I talked with financial aid recently who said that the admissions office determines when the scholarships roll out (not financial aid office), and timing can often be arbitrary. They do two reviews during this period (Feb-May) to hand out scholarships. Fingers crossed!

The way this is worded is really weird but I think they mean pre-II: only updates, post-II but pre decision: no updates, but yes LOI, and post-II post decision: yes to updates and yes to LOI.

I'm OOS on the waitlist and asked about an update letter. They said, "We do not accept updates after interviews. We currently accept letters of intent (without updates)."
if someone comes off the waitlist for this school is it basically a 100% chance they end up a temple
not true.
It depends on the location of the person who created the gap.
I vaguely VAGUELY remember hearing during interview day that if a Houston spot opens up, they’ll first ask the temple student transfer waitlist before the non accepted waitlist though.

Would maintaining the proportion of OOS students at each campus be an exception? I think this is the case last year where multiple OOS people got off the WL for Houston.
In my case, I talked with financial aid about it because I had already received my letter, which did not include any scholarship. If you receive the letter without a scholarship, then they said to consider it as the "first review." As someone said before, it can be the case that in the next month, there could be more money to go around.
