Well I got my PS down to 4998 characters! But every time I try to save it on VMCAS I get an error, aaarrgghhh! Guess I'll be calling them in the morning 🙂
Anyone else having this problem?

And I just realized that they won't be there in the morning. This makes submitting by Sept 1st kinda difficult. New plan...try multiple other computers in the morning to see if that does the trick.

Character count is different depending on program, and too many characters = error thingy. Did you use Word and then copy and paste over? Use Notepad instead.

Same thing happened to me... and then I read the instructions 😛

I was over the other day and I found some spaces being used up in between paragraphs. I also found that using a thesaurus to find a shorter synonym helped! haha 😀
This saved my life! Lol, I didn't want to cut anything else out so I just went around to all my big words and found shorter ones for them. Submitted today and was so nervous I was shaking. Just need to finish Illinois and NCSU and I'm done, but first math homework.

👍 Good luck!

My advice is that if you think one of the schools you are applying to wants it then just put it in. Any school that doesn't count ownership hours will just ignore them. No harm done unless you're counting a ridiculous number of hours.

That's what I ultimately decided to do, thanks!

OK, I need some advice, I am contemplating writing an explanation statement as I am sure many others are but I wanted to put out my own situation to get some personal feedback. I am an average student, mostly b's some a's. But...this may sound ridiculous but during my first semester of switching majors (from business to biology) I took gen chem, gen bio, physics, and an elective in order to squeeze in enough classes to graduate in a timely manner. Now I know they will see that course load on my application but what I am debating on putting in was that I also commuted 45 minutes each way my entire time at the university and that particular semester (I got a C in gen chem and my elective) my boyfriend (now husband) broke up with me just prior to midterms. I KNOW, I KNOW, totally not an excuse which is why I'm posting here and I completely take credit for my grades. Unfortunately my choices at that age were to work and commute and those choices led me to not focus on school as much. I graduated when I was 19, so I think that says something about my maturity at that age (not the greatest time management skills). Anyhoo, you can laugh if you want to but some advice to go along with the laughter would be much appreciated.

VMCAS submitted....just have supplementals and Tuskegee to go.

I don't think you need to write an explanation statement for one bad grade in one semester. As long as you have made As/Bs since, then you are okay. And I've talked to students in my grade who commuted 2+ hours for pre-reqs, while working full-time and getting experience. Commuting 45 minutes isn't much for some people..

I agree with Cloudless. If it's limited to two C's in one period of school, I don't think it needs an explanation. On some level, everyone is entitled to a couple mishaps grade-wise.

I'm writing an explanation statement only because my top school focuses a lot on pre-req sciences and I have some C's and repeats among those from undergrad. I've taken 3x more upper/grad level biology credits in which I've done very well and I want to draw attention to that fact to show that I can be successful in a science heavy curriculum.

Just submitted!!!! now to finish those stupid supplemental applications and wait with anxiety for the next 3-7 months 🙁

Yesterday was actually the day (for priority submission). The 'official,' hard deadline is still October 2nd, but VMCAS states that those who don't submit by Sept. 1st will be at a significant disadvantage in the admissions process.

I didn't write an explanation statement at all. That being said, I had a couple Cs on my transcript and ended up getting in. I also graduated and applied at the age of 19 and was actually told my age was a detriment. I still got in, so I don't know how true that was!

Personal Statement finished and sent to my friend for editing and final comments (she was an animal science major with a minor in english... score). Final eLOR was submitted today! Hopefully can get this thing in by the end of tomorrow!

I still need to finish supplemental apps... But I am getting there!

Well I am 24 now so I don't know how the age thing will affect me. I decided not to write an explanation statement. We will see!

I hear ya... one more supp to go! How do you guys have the energy to apply to 5+ schools?

Hitting submit on Saturday was terrifying and exciting all at the same time. I had about 10 mins relief, but then realized I have all those supplementals to do...... ugh. Hahaha so much for taking it easy while being in school full time, chasing after a 2 yr old, and 4 dogs!
Good luck to everyone and may our DVM dreams come true!!!!!

Just submitted! I was hoping to get it in on Sunday, but didn't get paid till Monday, which was a stupid bank holiday. But glad and scared :scared: 😀 it is finally done with.

Just waiting on my final LOR for TMDSAS...4 weeks left, but still...I was hoping to have it all completed by now. I see her tomorrow, so maybe I'll casually drop a hint or two (or five)...

Congrats to everyone who has gotten applications submitted! One step closer! 😍

I submitted mine today!!!

I also called my top school (Illinois) and asked if it would be a problem since I was two days "late". I was told that they would accept any applications submitted before the Oct. deadline. So, if anyone is worried I would recommend calling the schools directly.

VMCAS states that those who don't submit by Sept. 1st will be at a significant disadvantage in the admissions process.

Where does it state that? All I see is that they strongly recommend submitting it by then to allow time for processing.

Hi Plops,

I had to look it up to find it, but I knew it was there 😉

Under 'Re-applying to VMCAS; Changes since last year'

Bullet #3:

"In order to allow time for your application to go through the verification process, we strongly recommend you submit your application and all required documents by September 1, 2013. You are at a great disadvantage in the admissions process if your materials arrive at VMCAS after this date."

👍 I also saw it somewhere else on the site AND there's this: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=991263

Just got an email from VMCAS saying that my transcripts have been verified and that my apps are being mailed out with the next mailing. I submitted the app Friday night so it took... a couple days? Lookin' good!

Just submitted my application... I think that my heart rate just flew up...

Good luck to those who submitted!

Definitely check your schools if you're worried about the Sept. 1st deadline. VMRCVM sent an email that said:

Applicants have until October 2nd to successfully complete all of the VMCAS requirements REGARDLESS of verification.

Applicants will NOT be penalized for getting ANY materials in after the September 1st recommended submission date.

Verification will continue after the deadline (October 2nd, 2013 at 1:00pm Eastern Time) until all applicants are verified.

Also, I finally took the GRE! Yay! Such a relief to have that over with 🙂

Did anyone else notice that when viewing application previews (found by clicking blue things on college designation page) that their PS wasn't indented properly? When I submitted my app it was perfect. I followed instructions. Now I'm so annoyed. I'm calling them today 😡

Hi ChittyBang, I also had problems with the application preview. I was told by VMCAS that this is not the actual application that schools will receive but just something to give us an idea of what it will look like. All the information and formatting that you see on your homepage is what the schools will get. So I think you're good to go! Good Luck!

Oh, thank dog. I don't need anymore stress right now and not seeing any indentation was gonna throw me over the edge 😛 Good luck to you too!

👍 I was told the same thing, Chitty. I think you're good 😉

Wow, I've been verified and Mailed!! Yikes! This s**t just got real, haha!

Has anyone completed Ohio State's supplemental? I am worried, my VMCAS said was sent out a week ago (when I check on my phone it says sept 4 though?). Iowa confirmed they received it, so I am assuming Ohio has too. Does it normally take a week or so for them to process it and send the e-mail? I also saw that they said the supp app would be available in September, but noticed some posters on here had already completed it? I just don't want to be waiting on something and not doing anything if they still need stuff from me? :scared:

Sorry if this sounded confusing!! Lol🙄

My college designations status changed 8/27 (I'm assuming that means it was mailed then as well), and I just got an email from Ohio with instructions for the supplemental yesterday evening. I'd give it a bit more time before worrying too much. I'm sure a phone call to their admissions office would quell your fears, though 🙂

Scooter157, thank you so much! I will hold out for a few more days then and call if I still haven't received 🙂

So both of the veterinarians who are writing me recommendation letters use AOL email addresses, and do not have an alternative. Did anyone have problems/ success with AOL? The VMCAS warning about AOL users not receiving VMCAS emails is making me nervous, even though I warned both vets they might have to check their spam folder.

One of my eLORs used an aol email because it was the only one he had, and it worked just fine. He did evaluations for both me and another pre-vet girl, and never had any trouble. Maybe he just got lucky, but I think it's probably fine!

So I submitted my VMCAS 9 days ago and it still says "meeting VMCAS requirements" and my college designations have not been mailed. Anyone know how long it's supposed to take?

I submitted mine on the 30th and they were mailed out on the 6th. They did say that, at the peak, it could take up to four weeks. I wouldn't worry...there's still time 😉

I submitted mine on the 31st, and just got verified on Friday (Whoo! 🙂 ) Mine isn't sent out either, but I got an email from Iowa State saying that they received my VMCAS, so I wouldn't worry about it, all of your schools will get your application in plenty of time.

Hi GoldenGirl:

I submitted my VMCAS on September 1st, and just received notification that I was officially 'Verified' today (09-09-13). My application has not yet been mailed to my designated schools. You've got plenty of time. Don't stress 😉

i also submitted on September 1st and got an email today saying mine was verified and that it would go out in the the next mailing, so took 8 days

Thanks, that makes me feel much better! 😀

Is anyone else constantly checking their email/VMCAS account to check if it has been verified? I can'ttttt sttoooppppppp... It is extra silly because I get email on my phone... so I know when I receive any emails...
