yea its me lol..congratts!!! hope to see you around campus.

Just withdrew my acceptance...i hope it goes to one of you very deserving SDNers!! good luck!

i do not think this is possible because you may not get to be in the same spot or spots that are easily accessible via public transportation for this two years.
plus, certain rotations (ie surgery) are notorious for starting at insane hours in the morning which may make taking public transportation there difficult since in the early hours the trains are either far and few between or are not running at all on certain CTA lines.

Mommy, for students that live on campus for the first two years, will they need cars? Do they usually have cars?

Thanks

From what ive heard, having a car is must since there is no public transit where the university is. I guess you could live on campus without a car but there would be no way for you to leave campus

Have any of you that interviewed at CCOM also interviewed at AZCOM? If so, which program did you like better, and why? I understand that the responses will probably be biased given that I'm posting this in the CCOM thread, but still, I would like to hear the different opinions. Thanks!

I interviewed at both - PM me if you want to chat about it

I interviewed and was accepted at both but for me there was no question that CCOM was for me. Big thing I'm from the Midwest and it felt like home. Downers Grove is a beautiful area. The school is also very well established and has a great reputation. AZCOM is a bit newer. Also the clinical rotations for CCOM are great. The clinical set up for AZCOM I've heard it can be a little more questionable. It probably has a lot to do with who I've talked to though.

Best thing to think about is where do you want to be for the next four years and possibly longer?

Are there any school related functions/necessities you need to leave campus for?

Not sure about that but what if you need like some thing for your self, like some thing to eat or coffee or food late night. I was thinking about not bringing my car but without public transit id be locked on that campus for months at a time.

The Pace Bus (Rte 715) serves Midwestern. You can do a search to get more info on the Pace system. The Metra - Burlington Northern is the commuter train that you could pick up in Downers Grove to get to downtown Chicago. A car would certainly make life easier, but there are public transportation options.

it is really difficult to get anywhere like the store for necessities and stuff without a car if you live on campus. i suppose you could ride with a friend but it can be rather challenging.

while this is true, we had someone in my class do this as he lives downtown and was riding the train out everyday, he said it can be challenging especially with timing.
it was very difficult to work out the train/bus timing such that he got to campus at the appropriate times and he found it particularly challenging to get to campus in time for 7:30 exams as well as the 8 am classes.
it was IMPOSSIBLE for him to make it to campus in time for 7am exams which we are now having as he physically could not get there with the train not running out in time to get him here.

while it is not impossible to get around without a car, be aware that it can be exceedingly and uneccesarily challenging and possibly add additional stress to you during what is already going to be a very stressful time.

Hey, I had my file complete on Feb 8th (according to their email) and I was invited for an interview on March 7th. There are quite a few interview dates open (3/16, 3/19, 4/3 & 4/6). Hope this helps!

That sounds good. maybe they want to see how i do this quarter and make their decision? :xf::xf::xf:

btw, what was their interview format? i have a friend who goes to the pharm school there, and she says it had 3-4 students in one interview room. that true for DO as well? also is there a writing prompt too?

Thanks!

(from a post earlier in the thread)

This is what your interview day will look like. You'll get there in the morning and meet in a room with ~10-12 other interviewees. Someone form the admissions office will be there to welcome you, give you information and guide you through the morning. During this you'll get a presentation from either the dean of CCOM or someone from her office (this is a great time to ask questions!)

After that you''ll have interviews. You'll have one interview with a student and a faculty member (they interview each person individually, not a group interview). You'll then get a finachial aid presentation then a campus tour by a student and lunch. The tour has lots of walking (some outside) but they'll let you change shoes before hand if you need to.

The following is what my friend who interviewed in October/November told me:
First there's a presentation for like an hour I think. Then interviews, tour, and lunch. Be prepared to wait forever for your interview or get interviewed right away. There are three or four blocks I think, and I got placed into the last block so I had to wait almost 2-3 hours for my turn. It gets kind of annoying to wait around but students come in to chat and the other applicants come back and tell you what they got asked.

So interview style is a panel, 3 people--faculty, D.O., and M4. It's in the library so it's a really relaxed setting. I was nervous about it being a panel but its not three people sitting in front of you, its two people sitting in front of you and one next to you at a table so its more like you're just having a conversation. They have your secondary--the resume, essay, grades, etc. Also, the good thing about the panel is that it's over and done with at once. You don't have two separate interviews.

Hope this clarifies any questions...good luck!

My interview was similar to this, but still slightly different. Upon arrival, we were welcomed by a member of the admissions staff and given folders with the match list, curriculum, a campus map, etc. and a stress ball (little brain with MWU on it). The woman had us all introduce ourselves (group of 12 in my section, split into smaller groups of four) and we told some facts about ourselves and where we were from. Dean came in and spoke with us about all the things CCOM offers and then the interviews started. Interviews were conducted 4 at a time (to move things along), individual style. I was lucky to go first, so I didn't have the burden of getting anxious through the wait, which I thought was a great advantage. Mine consisted of a DO and 2 professors (anatomy and biochem I believe). After my interview, DO students came in and chatted with us until all the interviews were over--lots of Q&A. We then had a financial aid session that mentioned the costs of everything, discussed rotation possibilities and research opps. Lastly, we were taken on a tour by a few students (3, I think) and had lunch with our tour guides.

All in all, it was really relaxing and left a great impression on me. I had a chance to talk with each person I was there with, and asked all the questions I wanted to the faculty and students. My advice to anybody interviewing would be to relax and enjoy the experience. It is very low pressure and I didn't feel rushed, stressed or unwelcome in any way. Good luck!

well the day i interviewed they told me we would know the end of march and my friend interviewed the day after me and they told her the end of april. this led me to believe that they met either the afternoon of my interview or the morning of hers - i talked to admissions and it was confirmed that they have met, but people might not hear till as late as next week because it takes a while to input everything. HOWEVER, i know only acceptances come by email and then waitlists and rejections are snail-mail. sooooo not getting an email makes me nervous but i haven't heard of anybody hearing anything yet......let's hope for good things!! :xf:😳

Yeah i am quite nervous for the decision 🙁 lets hope for the best.

That status on the school website will change before any email goes out. Good luck.

Thanks! I've been refreshing the portal like a madwoman just in case that was the case 😳 hahaha

and DrMeows slowly slides towards the edge of insanity....

There is one person on the fb page who recieved an acceptance yesterday...now it is making me even more nervous!! do they send results via email within a time range of few days after the committee meets or is it all in one day?

Crap that makes me nervous too. I don't see why they wouldn't send them all out in one day....let's hope they don't 🙁

I emailed admissions and just asked lol. I've been waitlisted 🙁 Sad. At least it's not a rejection I guess. I'm gonna guess that if you interviewed March 19th or before and haven't heard by now, it's probably a waitlist or a rejection. Good luck all!

Does anyone know if they are still offering interviews? I have been completed since Nov. and have not heard back.

The last interview date that I know of is April 6th (somebody can correct me if they have a date after this lol). At my interview I know they said they were coming to a close and would be done with their interviews in April. That doesn't mean you still can't get one, but the chances are probably pretty slim. I'd call admissions and ask. Good luck 👍

Why March 19th in particular? There was an interview date on the 16th as well. (can you tell I interviewed on the 19th and am hoping what you said above doesn't apply to me?) 🙂

Hey Guys,

I'm a first year this year and just want to tell you to not give up hope! I interviewed last year March 21 got wait listed the first week of April and didn't get officially accepted until late July- ONE week before orientation started!! It was definitely nerve-wracking and I even sent out a second set of primary applications before I found out I got in. I also wrote a letter of interest and sent in another letter of recommendation while wait listed to make sure they knew I was still interested! So moral of the story is anything can happen and stay positive! If anyone has any questions feel free to ask! and GOOD LUCK!

Very reassuring post, thank you! I've already planned on doing similar things to update my application. Let's hope I get as lucky you as you did 😳:xf:
