I originally planned on applying to 6-8, until I saw the price...then, other than LSU and CSU, I ended up having to pick a couple schools completely different from the ones I'd originally planned, after seeing what prereqs I had vs. what those schools needed. I'd be happy getting in anywhere though!

when i told my mom I'd only be able to apply to these 4 this time she thought it wasn't enough, but I think it's a more than decent number to start with. When I was in undergrad I planned on applying to just about everywhere except the ivy-types and A&M, but I learned It's just too dang expensive (and a waste of time/money if it leads to interview conflicts, as some here have pointed out).

I'm applying to 3! I am definitely a believer in applying smart, whatever that looks like for your stats and circumstances. Five is indeed a fine number. 🙂

Nope. I'm dumb enough that I just tried to repair one of the blades, again. (Both our vehicles are dying and we are having a bit of a housing crisis.) We mostly have the house thing sorted, temporarily and are rebuilding that pile of money. The cars need replaced, but hopefully they survive a few more months. We spent nearly $10,000 dollars between the cars and the weird house problem in the last 6 months. I hate it all.

But, it's all getting sorted out and it just sucks that the low point, funds wise, was at application time.

New Jersey resident here, so I applied to 8 schools. I'm also a non-traditional and spent two years at a community college... does anyone else keep flip-flopping from "of course I'll get in somewhere!" and "every school will HATE me."

Ugh. I hate the waiting part. I submitted at 12pm on the 15th, so verification should be soon!

My thoughts exactly. I might get in somewhere....oh my gosh I suck, and why would anyone accept me?!

My biggest fear right now is not "getting rejected" it's "getting rejected and having to tell all my mom's facebook dog show friends who are just positive that of course I'll get in despite knowing nothing about my qualifications".

Seriously guys, they would be so disappointed. 😛
 
Hi everyone! I'm new to SDN but have been hanging around ninja-style for a few weeks. :ninja: This is my first year to apply and reading that so many of you have app anxiety is helping me feel more normal right now! Good luck to everyone!

Yes, yes, yes, yes. Some days I feel awesome about my chances and then I feel completely hopeless on others.

Umm. Yes, this, too. I am seriously starting to wish I hadn't told anyone that I was applying. :yeahright:

At least I know better if I go through a second cycle now, I guess.
 
Hey all! This is my first app cycle I'm new to SDN! Feeling a lot of the same app anxiety as you all! Especially worried about having to explain my rejections to people if that's how things turn out, eek! Good luck to everyone!

The only people who know I've applied to vet school are my immediate family and the people I asked for recommendations. In the past, I've had to sit my mom down and tell her to stop "bragging" to people about it because I was tired of explaining to casual family acquaintances and seldom seen extended family that I didn't get into vet school.
 
Is it just me or does anyone else have parents that talk in a way, saying "when" instead of "if", as if you've already submitted a deposit to the vet school you've selected to attend next fall?

My mom used to. I made it clear to her that plenty of applicants don't get in the first time.

Now, she still talks about "when" but she's not talking about next fall... it's a much more indefinite "when".

This is literally my life. I have tried to make it so clear that I most likely won't get in on the first try but they shrug it off like I'm just being humble.. I don't think they understand it's a very realistic outcome. I think they'll be more disappointed than me if I don't get in!!

I've made this mistake too. While I think my numbers are average and my vet experience is low, everyone I've told is adamant that I'll get in, solely because I have a TON of research experience from an advanced degree. I'm going to have a very tough time telling everyone if I don't get in...

Yup. Even my extended family has started doing this...

My grandma bragging on me the other day: "Oh, did I tell you about my granddaughter ketoone? She's in veterinarian school! She didn't apply to X Community College down the street, though. I don't know why, it'd be cheaper!"

1) It's not called "veterinarian school".
2) Community colleges give out the professional degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine now? Since when? No... just no.
3) I'm not in vet school yet. I don't even know if I WILL get in at this point.

Oh, family... y'love 'em, y'hate em. :dead:

MY LIFE

I have these things called snap chat, facebook and instagram where I share pictures and videos of the many moments I have working with animals. Because of this people think I am vet already.... "Hey! How does it feel being a vet? My friend/cousin is a vet (referring to me)! Can you check on my dog? He has bloody stool and is vomitting. My daughter is interested in being a vet, can she shadow you one day at work?" Sadly, I think I've made it clear to everyone that I am STILL an undergrad and they don't seem to acknowledge that. It's not possible to go from undergrad to becoming a vet..... I think many fail to realize that our career choice is not like a career in business or teaching where you can work in your chosen career field right out of undergrad....

Sometimes it gets to a point where I get tired of explaining myself over and over again, and just say say "YES I AM IN VET SCHOOL. I'M A VET." Of course I wouldn't say this to random strangers or other professionals. Just to friends and family, mostly family, that just don't get it after the hundreth time that I've corrected them.

THIS! I can't tell you how many times I've had to correct my husband (non-trad here) when he tells someone I'm going to vet school! I'm like, "Nooooo, not quite. Finishing my undergrad science prereqs and am in the process of applying now." And he's all, "Yeah, but you'll get it." [emoji58][emoji379]

Awkward.
 
Haha, I love that people are so supportive but I appreciate if they can at least acknowledge that they understand I might not get in. It's just uncomfortable when they act oblivious to that possibility---or actually are oblivious to it.
 
This happens every year. People complaining about how their relatives, SO's and friends support them. How they don't understand the process...

They are honestly just trying to be helpful and supportive. I get that it can get frustrating, but just smile and thank them for the support. They will never understand the process or how it works, so just thank them for being there for you. 🙂

Oh, yeah. I know. Which is why I can never get too frustrated with them. I'm definitely thankful to at least have the support, because I know that not all applicants do.

Sometimes they do say some pretty funny things, though. 😉

"How wonderful! Your uncle mentioned you're applying to vet school. I've heard how competitive that is! Our neighbor's daughter Judy just recently finished after a grueling two years at a local school; she's a wonderful doctor now."

This state doesn't have a vet school, and I bet Judy is a wonderful vet tech :bang:.
 
My mom was a non-traditional pharmacy student, and went back to school when I was maybe 8 or 9. She had a 4.0 at the local community college, and got into a top ranked school when everyone told her she wouldn't get in. Still, they let in a class of 300 or some students that year.

When I told her I applied to 8 schools, she freaked. "Why are you wasting all that money? What are you going to do when you get into all of them?"

....Yeah. What WILL I do when I get into all of them? 😛 I appreciate her optimism, though.
 
Don't get me wrong I love the support and the confidence that they have in me! It makes me feel great! But I don't want them thinking I'm there YET. Then be disappointed when I get to that vet school stage and they say "wait I thought you were already a vet?" Then comes the explanations all over again . But again, I love the faith people have in me! It keeps me going and drives me to have faith in my self! It's so easy to lose hope in this process. I hope none of us ever get to that stage! Have faith everyone!
 
In my family, the conversation is always about "wait, HOW OLD are you going to be when you FINALLY finish?!". Yeah, thanks for the reminder that I'm not 21. My father just asked me this on my birthday even though I've repeatedly had extended conversations with him about applying and how many years it'd take and blahblahblah. On my birthday, his contribution was "jesus christ, you're going to be in school forever." Yeah, I know. His version of being supportive is, "Well, I guess if this is what you want to do, then..." but this is the man who once told me that it didn't matter what I did anyway because I'll have a husband to take care of me so "go ahead and get your PhD in whatever useless crap you want." My mom is generally more supportive about it but she can't help but bring up things like my "biological clock" and "your husband's career should come first because he's ahead of you and he's the man." On my in-laws' side, my FIL and his wife have been awesome and very supportive. My MIL has repeatedly asked me, "Aren't you done with vet school yet?", like there's something wrong with me for taking so damn long, and often tells people I'm in vet school or already a vet. I know she means well but it gets irritating to have to clarify things over and over again.

Anyway, for those of you fretting, I highly recommend trying your best to not think about it. I've had a few moments of caring and anxiety, but it's nice to be in this waiting limbo so I can focus on other stuff like my boring hobbies instead of worrying. We have a couple months of worrying and freaking out ahead, so better to relax now. 🙂
 
Jumping in, this is my 4th and final time applying. I applied to 10 schools last cycle thinking id get in SOMEWHERE and lo and behold, I did, off the wait list at western U in Cali. Problem was, I live in Georgia, have a life and family here. I ended up not going to Cali. That's when I realized, there are limits for me with this dream of vet school.

This cycle I only applied to UGA, hoping and praying that an acceptance to western will be the final push for them to FINALLY let me in.

And in regards to telling the family and friends about rejection, NO ONE knows I've applied this cycle, except my boyfriend. I can't bear to tell ppl AGAIN that I didn't get in.

Anybody else apply to UGA?

I understand where you are coming from as I only applied to one school myself this round. I actually tried to apply to more than one but I can't justify OOS tuition and my IS happens to be my dream school. So here we are! Lol

I am hoping second time is a charm as I was very close the first time.

I can get over my family and friends that are oblivious to how this process works. What I love are the 5 docs I work with that seem to be insistent that I will get accepted, no matter how many times I tell them I am just an average guy with okay stats. Granted I applied the shotgun method (10 schools) because I'm hoping for a First Time GO at this station, so we'll see.
I'm convinced that rather than explaining I didn't get in, I will just leave the state and potentially try again next year. Sounds like a better option :whoa:

Why stop there? Burn your belongings, change your identity, and leave the country. I know a guy, he'll get you everything you need.

That's after a failed attempt at round 2... I'll be on the other side of the planet secretly excited I won't need to deal with $200-300k in debt 👍... as I cry myself to sleep thinking of the animals. +pity+

Ha! The two doctors I work with do this to me as well. One of them took 2 or 3 tries to get in! They know it's not a guarantee! But every time they ask me for status updates, they're all, "oh, so when do you interview?" Knowing they haven't been sent out yet... And "so when you're accepted next year blah blah blah."

I've told them if I don't get in its their fault for jinxing me haha
 
I'll admit it was kind of vindicating not getting in anywhere on my first (or second) try, so people realized I wasn't just being pessimistic. Luckily my boyfriend and my parents have learned to be supportive, yet also realistic. It does get kind of exhausting explaining to friends and co-workers that no, really, I'm not in school right now. I got my bachelors, I have no need or desire to get a masters or take post-bacc classes right now, and no vet school has accepted me yet. I also look younger than 23, so especially when random strangers ask if I'm a student (usually at businesses that offer student discounts), and I'm honest and say no they give me this look like "are you sure???"
 
My mom is the opposite. She's supportive, but mostly assumes I won't get in this round, and keeps bugging me about what I'll do next fall instead. 🙄 Before my sister even applied to grad school, though, it was a for sure 'she's getting her doctorate!' when anyone asked my mom what the eldest is up to.

I applied to only UGA as well, I only want to pay IS tuition and its an awesome school! I was 3rd on the waitlist last year, so I'm feeling more confident this go around with lots more hours and great pre-req grades. Good luck!!

I'm surprised I didn't even make the wait list last year. They called my references and everything. So at least I made it that far.

Crying forever for real because where are potential interview invites. I cannot possibly wait until November (or whenever Ross finsishes processing my VMCAS)

I got this email from Ross Admissions Monday and I nearly fell out of my chair. All it was saying was they got a document for my app (GRE I'm sure) but the didn't receive my app and I replied saying HOLD UP NOW! Because I applied through VMCAS. They said it will take a few weeks to process. Hope they're exaggerating
