DO waitlist support thread 2019-2020

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Someone was pulled off the waitlist at Touro NV yesterday and they sent me an email indicating there are still seats available.

currently waitlisted at MUCOM and VCOM since April. Haven't heard anything from MUCOM since June. VCOM called me Wednesday about having a decision within 2 weeks. I have been unable to shadow a DO because of the pandemic and haven't got any other acceptances. Don't mind if I can get accepted to VCOM for class of 2025 with conditions if it means a seat. Anyone know how likely this is?

Do you mean offering you a seat for next year without applying again? Does anyone know how many D.O. schools do this? Would it be considered a deferred acceptance?

Also, does anyone know which schools overfill or underfill their waitlists (or alternate lists)? I believe it diminishes the value of (getting placed on) a waitlist when a school continues to interview into June/July when the next batch of applicants are already submitting their applications for next cycle.....
yes offering a seat for the next year without applying. im not sure how many schools do this

You could ask for consideration of a deferred acceptance but be specific that it would be in the case that you’re not accepted for c/o 2024. A few schools have started doing this this year, especially ones that have overfilled their class. I don’t think it hurts to ask though, shoot your shot.

keep in mind accepting that offer has an opportunity cost of 1 year of attending salary. If you have no other acceptances, I'd take the guaranteed A. but i'd try to get in this cycle if possible.

of course I have no other acceptances yet from the previous cycle. only 2 waitlists

Then I'd accept. A acceptance is better than not being accepted. If you get in this cycle, then just go there

I would like to also mention time is of the essence here because of the plans to change Step 1 to p/f. Class of 2024 is potentially the first class to have non scored Step 1 but it could get implemented later on especially because of COVID. The later you get an acceptance the higher the chance of you having to take a p/f step 1.
