Doximity has recently tried to rank all residencies based on physician surveys. For the programs I planned on applying to it seemed to be in the ballpark based on what I've read on here. What are your opinions on its rankings?

Gotta take these with a grain of salt to a degree. For example, no way is Beth Israel Manhattan (Formerly Einstein, now Sinai) better known than Brown for training among the circles I travel (which is in the NY area).

I've seen a lot of ranking threads on here and JHU, UCSF, MGH are always on the cream of the crop tier while the other top 10's get mentioned frequently as well. Ultimately you'll have to figure out your own priorities. If you want the big name, just ask the faculty at your school for where the big boys play.

Mayo is a bit high (and maybe UTSW), but otherwise no real gripes with the top 10. Won't let me see the rest of the rankings.

Sorry the formatting took a crap.

Some of these rankings are downright laughable. CCF >BIDM? Mayo Arizona/Jacksonville > OHSU? etc etc etc

So, looking just at CA (most programs I know at least something about), I'm pretty highly amused. I mean, I doubt most will argue with the top three, but after that, it gets to be pretty much random.

Also, I looked at their lists of alumni for my program (which is the only one I knew enough about to judge where alumni end up) and I have to say it is missing the majority of alumni. Not only that, but I noticed that it even has some of our current residents as practicing alumni in the hospital(s) where we do our residency. I can't really gauge how representative the % values for the various subspecialties would be, but I bet that they're off.

Oh man, it's the SDNers wet dream! Some outside institution makes a half baked attempt to rank all residencies via an asinine survey!

I fully expect these results to be quoted ad infinitum for years on this board (and to cause endless anxiety among applicants who will wonder if they, too, can manage to match Mayo-Jacksonville).

I wouldn't argue with the first nine. After that, it's a mess, and not infrequently way off base among programs that I know well. It could be useful as a first pass if you want a way to organize by region and urban/rural, but that's as far as I would trust it.

The top 20 on that list seem reasonable for the most part except Mayo way too high, UCLA way too low, not sure why CC is even on the list (and how can anyone possibly argue that they beat places like Chicago, BIDMC, and Pitt, all of whom should be up there??) . People will complain about UTSW being #10 but I think it's well-earned. Beyond 20 the list just gets ******ed.

I guess with its emphasis on education Mayo makes it- its appearance this high on the list has an antagonizing effect (almost did on me). I don't think its necessarily that competitive though. CCF on the list is a joke..
Alabama is a little too low as well (I guess location knocks it down).
And Cedars this high.. come on!

List is a joke.

People love lists and rankings though, so sites will continue to make them.

Everyone has their own personal and regional biases, you can't make a ranking list off of surveys of trainees and practitioners.

Cleveland Clinic and Mayo ALWAYS show up on these lists way higher than they deserve.
