Drexel DPMS 2020-2021

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My application was submitted 3/3/2020 and I received my interview invite on 4/15/2020. I interviewed yesterday, 4/27/2020. The day wasn't too bad and was very informative. The admissions counselor that was hosting was upbeat and made things pretty chill. She gave an overview of the program and then there was a discussion with Dr. Nunez, the program director, who went a little more in depth about the program and its design/goals. After that there was a Q&A with some current DPMS students who were very nice and helpful. The last part was the interviews. Personally I thought mine went okay, the interviewer was pretty stoic and asked his questions in a rapid-fire kind of way (my interview only ran about 20 minutes), but he was low-key funny too. And the admissions counselor said that most people tend to leave his room feeling pretty unsure about how things went.

Overall it wasn't a bad experience though.
Who did you interview with?

Are the interviewers apart of the DPMS/Medical college staff? And were there a lot of other people interviewing with you overall?

Will there be more interview dates? I know 4 Dates have been given out already. I’m just nervously waiting! I was complete 3/24 and haven’t heard anything yet.

Hey! I interviewed yesterday as well and had a similar experience to @premed4055 . Yes, all the interviewers are professors for both DPMS and DUCOM. I found my interviewer to be really down to earth. I answered all their questions while keeping it conversational and the interviewer even opened up about their granddaughter (which I'll take as a good sign). Overall, ask questions (for some reason the other members weren't very interactive yesterday), and make sure to be dressed business formal. Women, wear your blazers. One applicant (female) in yesterday's cohort was called out by their interviewer yesterday and told to put on a blazer. Better to be prepared than to be called out when it's your time to shine.

I'm assuming so. They mentioned in the session yesterday that there would be two waves of acceptances, one mid may and one at the end of may/early June. So more than likely there will be some more interview dates in May

Were you marked complete on the 3rd or you actually submitted your app on the 3rd? Feel like that makes a difference lol

Does anyone know when they’ll likely send out more interview dates? I’m getting anxious

Hey everyone, another current DPMSer here! I feel like I'm late to the party but feel free to DM me if anyone has any questions or just wants a different perspective on how the program is. My colleagues have answered your questions wonderfully but I will try my best. I am in Track one meaning I had to retake the MCAT. Good luck and keep pushing, yall got this!

Are applicants automatically rejected if they don't have a 2.9 GPA overall and for math/science?

What is the cost of tuition?

I just had my interview for the program and I didn't have an overall 2.9 math/science GPA.

I think I saw that the tuition is ~$15,000 per semester for the program.

If you don’t mind sharing, what was your MCAT score (if you even got the opportunity to take it)?

Nope they do a holistic review. I have cGPA 3.3, sGPA as calculated by Drexel at a 2.9, although some other institutions have calculated it at around 2.7ish. I interviewed on the 27th.

Current DPMSer! I have friends in the program with a range of gpas and MCATs. Remember, there is no minimum gpa!

In this program incoming stats are a factor, but definitely not everything. Based on the story you've told them in essays, resume, transcripts, and the interview will allow them to see that you have the determination to succeed in a rigorous program like this. Hope this helps put some of y'all at ease!

DM me with any questions you may have. And best of luck to all of y'all awesome folks!

I got an II! My application was marked complete on 3/19.
Oh wow, that was fast! Good luck! They just finished up the last interviews for the first round yesterday (which is the day I interviewed). May I ask what dates they provided you with?

The dates provided were May 4, 6, 11 & 13

Ahhh congrats! Now I’m nervous! They must be reviewing those who completed closer to end of March and on now! I was complete 3/24! Nervously waiting for a decision.

I was complete 3/8! Still under review and l'm anxiously waiting.

I was complete in December and im still under review LOL should i threw in the towel?

How many students are accepted to DPMS? What is the average turnaround for responses after you receive an interview? Also, what was the typical interview day like?

How many students are accepted to DPMS? What is the average turnaround for responses after you receive an interview? Also, what was the typical interview day like?
It's around 40-45 students that are accepted into the program. The typical interview day was as follows:
11:00-11:15 -- Authentication of interviewers
11:15-12:00 -- Welcome and orientation
12:00-12:30 -- Ethics essay
12:30-1:30 -- Q&A with the students
And then when all of those activities are done, you have about a 20-30 minute interview with a member of their faculty and then the day is done.

As for the turn around for after receiving an interview, I don't quite know that answer either, but I would like to know!! However, whenever they were giving statistics about their medical school program last year, they gave out the numbers for about 1,500 interviews for about 850ish acceptances. I'm not entire sure where all those numbers come from since their medical school is only about 260 people, so maybe that includes all biomedical graduate studies for Drexel? I'm not entirely sure, but the message I got out of that statistic was just above over half their interviewees get accepted.

Something also to consider, though, is that if my interview day was like anyone else's, then just about everyone who gets interviewed gets accepted. I say this because on the day I interviewed, there were 6 total people interviewing. There were four dates offered for interviews for the first cycle, so if each of those dates had 6 people, then that's about 24 for the first round of interviews. If it's the same for the second round, then it's another 24, which is 48 interviews in total, which is roughly the amount of people they accept. Keep in mind that most schools will over accept applicants because it's assumed that a couple might reject the seat.

This is all just speculation on my end and doesn't have a lot of weight, so absolutely all of this could be wrong!!! But like any other applicant/interviewer, I'm gonna get in my head about this and try to predict what may or may not happen... so these are just my thoughts! Maybe someone else can share what they think, what they were told, or what it was like for their DPMS year 🙂

I was told that the first wave of acceptances would be given out around mid May, so hopefully this is still true. Also there were a total of 7 people interviewing on the day I interviewed so you might be onto something!

You still being under review means that you are still in the running, so I wouldn't throw in the towel just yet! Have you looked into/applied to the other graduate programs @ Drexel or any other school?

I thought the same thing at first, but remember that there were times of 8:30 and 11:30 for each day, so assuming there were 6 people per time per day, that’s 12 people on each interview day (if every slot was filled). But hopefully they accept as many people as possible! 🙂

Aww I completely forgot about the two different time slots! Thanks for pointing that out

Oh yeah, definitely a good point.... I think I just figured no one would wanna interview right at 8 in the morning haha but I guess that might just be me. Well at least the silver lining is that it makes sense that they accept more than what they expect for the incoming class, so fingers crossed!!

To add to this, I was told by someone who did the program that they had about 800 people apply, interviewed about 100, and accepted about 60 for roughly about 45 ish seats so you're kinda right.

Also what does the ethics essay entail for anyone who did the interview already?
There are about 4-5 different scenarios and the host will choose one for your interview group to answer. My prompt was followed by 3 short questions to gauge how well I work with others. The essay is absolutely nothing to stress over and it reminds me of the CASPer test. You get 30 minutes to type up a response that is less than 500 words.

This. I thought my prompt was simple and one I felt confident with. I know at least when you might look up an example of an ethics prompt that's typical for medical school admissions, they tend to be like really convoluted and sticky life-or-death situations, but my prompt wasn't like that. But like this said, there are a number of prompts they can choose from so who knows the level of intricacy and detail the other prompts were. But it wasn't something to stress over and I had plenty of time to read and re-read my essay over and over again to refine it and feel comfortable with my answer.

hey guys, does anyone have any recommendations on what to do regarding a committee letter that is still missing for my application to be complete. I have contacted my Premed office for the last week and have been unable to reach anyone, completely ghosted not sure if it's due to the evolving situation with COVID, but I've communicated with them since early march about writing me a letter for the program which they agreed to. Is there anything that can be done for my application to be complete today without it? I have everything else even an MCAT score, its just the letter that has not been submitted.
Any chance you have your individual recommender letters saved somewhere like Interfolio or could ask your recommenders to send them to Drexel today?

I requested my individual letters without using a committee letter! When I contacted the admissions, they were strict about the deadlines so I would try calling the office today and seek for their advice

For those who have applied, how long did the application take to update after having materials electronically sent? I've already submitted the application and all of my materials have been sent but aren't showing up with a checkmark yet?

I had submitted on the 24th and over the weekend sent over the remaining parts. I was marked complete on Monday the 27th. So I'd say about 1-2 business days.

Just got an interview invite! I'm so excited I can't think straight. Completed on 4/25 and I haven't taken the MCAT yet.

Oooof!!! Congrats! This is exciting because I was marked complete 3 days after you.

Would you mind sharing what interviews dates are available to those of us who applied later?

AHH congrats! I completed my app on 4/23 too without the MCAT but still haven't gotten anything yet

Shouldn’t take too long! What are you missing?
Just remember when all is complete you will get an email from Drexel stating your app is complete!
