So question about letters - I applied to Tufts, which requires a letter from a professor, but that letter I know isn't quiiiiiiite as strong as my others (he just didn't work with me that much, but I graduated 3 years ago and he was the most recent prof that was familiar with me) - anyway is there a way to submit that letter only to the school that wanted a professor, or does every school see every letter regardless of the number they claim to want?

They see all letters, but if you are unsure about if you should get letters from a particular source, you should contact the admissions team. They are very understanding and will be able to help you out.

They see all the letters. Some schools will read all of them, others will let you pick which 3 letters you want them to read. If they didn't mention it in the application/supplemental I would assume that they will read all of them.

SDN sent me notification that you mentioned me in a post. For a moment I thought I was SDN celebrity 🙁
Sorry about that, I didn't think it went through far enough for that!

To those of you who have submitted...

How long did your application say "awaiting materials" rather than "verifying"? I submitted yesterday evening and I wasn't concerned about it initially because I remember it took a couple hours to switch last year after they got my transcript. But now it's the next morning and it still says awaiting materials even though they have my transcript (and have had it since May). Just trying to figure out if this is normal or if I need to call.

I think it lists the date they were sent on MyGRE but aside from that if your school isn't set up with VMCAS I don't think you'll get a notification or anything. So if you're doubting you can check with the school.

That's crazy we won't get any notification..hmm.. i hope somehow we do since I took my GRE the beginning of August and sent my scores only 2 days later. They should be to all of the schools by now.. I hope!I have yet to call any schools though.. probably will do that Monday. By now there should be a portal on vmcas for thissss!!

I submitted my application last Sunday 8/21. My app said it was still "awaiting materials" for all schools Wednesday morning. (Mind you all of my transcripts, LOR's, and GRE scores had been showing as complete for 3 weeks before I submitted.) I sent an email to VMCAS asking about the situation and the person who responded informed me there was some sort of "glitch" in the system and they did see where all of my required materials had been submitted.

They put in an order to have it changed to completed and in line for verification. It did not change into "verifying" until the next evening (Thurs.) I was pretty impressed though because it was all verified and completed at 1:50am Friday morning. If it has been sitting for a few days, I would recommend calling or emailing them. It's possible that glitch effected more than just me. Hope this helps!

Good to know. I guess maybe I'll call tomorrow or Tuesday if it hasn't changed just to make sure.

I've been seeing a lot of people posting in the Personal Statement reader thread and I think almost all readers are back in school or busy. I've been desperate for some grammar help so I downloaded a few free apps without any expectations and I was pleasantly surprised. Grammerly & Ginger helped fix a few about 10-15 errors that I didn't notice! Hope it helps someone out 🙂

Getting super antsy. Planning on submitting September 1st. EEEEEEE.

Is there a way to keep the paragraph indentation when inputting the PS into VMCAS? It's driving me crazy!

I'm retaking the GRE on Saturday (got 152V, 154Q, 4.5 last time) and I have to wake up at 4:30am on Saturday to get ready and drive an hour and a half to my testing center for my 8am exam. Meaning, if I want a good amount of sleep, I need to go to bed at 7:30 pm the night before. :oldman:

I use notepad and copy/paste from there. Pretty sure it kept them last year.

same here! lol

We can be boat buddies! Because we're in the same boat . . . 😉

Part of it is my fault and part of it isn't. Well, okay, so it's mostly my fault. I'm retaking a class this fall and I (wrongly) assumed the text and everything would be the same. It's not. We have a different textbook, an expensive online access component, and expensive lab book . . . I had to spend about $300 I wasn't counting on.

The other part is way more exciting. I finally got rid of my old twin mattress (which I've slept on for 20+ years, the last 3 or so years with holes in it and springs popping through . . . ) and bought a full mattress set! The furniture place was having a big back to school sale and it was 40% off their normal price. I had it in my mind that I wanted a queen bed (and it would only be $30 more than a full, which was making it really hard to turn down) but after three people told me it wouldn't fit in my room, I got the full instead. It's big and beautiful and I will never regret the money I spent on it. Totally worth delaying submitting my application.

Drink some wine! Alcohol always makes me sleepy.

Or have some chamomile tea. That's probably a better suggestion.

I'm 20. No access to wine! I think I'll try the chamomile tea! Or some NyQuill/ ZzQuill if I know I'll get at least 8 hours of sleep!

Got an email today that my transcript was incomplete 🙁 I called to figure out the problem, turns out they just missed a page, hopefully things will get back on track.

Things do seem to be a lot less horrific with VMCAS this year than they were last year, so at least there is that!

You know what they say about the first ones through the door.

What school?!?! (If you don't mind me asking [emoji28][emoji6])

I don't mind at all! It's at Midwestern. I was a bit hesitant since it's such a new school, but I have read nothing but good things about it. I also saw that they do rolling admissions which was a huge part of why I applied there- it would be awesome to be accepted somewhere so soon into the cycle. Fingers crossed!!

is anyone else having problems with VMCAS status still saying awaiting materials days after everything is in order and confirmed by calling VMCAS multiple times? just getting worried because I submitted last monday and called about it on Thurs when my app still had 'awaiting materials' status, was told to make a minor change that shouldn't have even caused it to not go through and called again yesterday and was told it should be going through yet it is STILL saying awaiting materials....im getting very nervous.

Congratulations that is awesome!

I interviewed at Midwestern last year. I was very impressed with their facilities and program. I, unfortunately, was not accepted

When you pay for your VMCAS applications and then realize that your total was in US dollars when the CAD total comes up on your visa.......Canadian problems :sorry:

Yup. I emailed them about it and they responded today saying it was display issue in their system and that they would send it to support to be resolved. They said my application would be moved forward into "verifying" within the next couple business days. We'll see if that actually happens.

It's not just you though. Very frustrating, I agree.

Have you guys called any of your schools to ask if they got your GRE scores? ETS has said they've sent mine but I don't really have a way to know if the non-VMCAS ones have got there...

The school I applied to doesn't have a VMCAS GRE code so I emailed the school itself to verify that they received my scores from ETS. [emoji2] They quickly assured me that they have it.

I called NC State but they said they can't give out that information over the phone, and that we'd just have to wait for the confirmation email after they start reviewing applications (which won't happen until after the 15th). She did say that as long as you sent it to the NCSU GRE code (5964? 5469? Something like that) then they should have recieved them. I don't know if there's another way to make sure they got them, but I decided to just cross my fingers and wait until after the deadline.

if my course title is in all caps should i also make the whole thing in caps?

Thank you!! I'm extra super excited because I booked my plane ticket with a full extra day in AZ after my interview, so I'm going to bring a sleeping bag and go up to the Grand Canyon to explore for two nights 😀

Congrats on your interview!! How soon after submitting did you get notification of an interview?
Also just FYI about the Grand Canyon.. It is great but it can be very dangerous so just be careful...
