Future DVMs- C/O 2021!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So I just submitted but my VMCAS still says awaiting materials under my program. Everything is in transcript and LOR wise. I wonder if its the two documents for UF and that due to stupid labor day they won't have someone go yes they are here.

Same here, as far as having transcripts and eLORs in...it's annoying

You know, you would think that GRE would pick a better time to update their website besides for the time when potentially their largest collective group of students are submitting their applications and needing the GRE website.

It's not even letting me log in. And I'm trying to make sure scores get sent! Ugh.

Side note, will VMCAS start verifying once you've fully submitted to all schools or what? Because I've submitted 4/5 I'm just finishing up UF's diversity statement

I got an email from Auburn saying they are aware of the issue with the GRE website and they'll work with you if you don't get your scores in on time due to this problem. So hopefully other schools are aware as well. And vmcas should start verifying if you pay for at least one program and have 3 LORs and your transcripts in

See I just put down my unofficial scores for the gre because I sent them to UF anyways.

Do you guys have around 100 experiences all together? Either I'm just being thorough or I've gone over board. I can't tell. I need reassurance that I'm not about to submit the world's most obnoxious application.

I have around 30 experiences, lol. Idk what to think now lol

I'm torn between 'no one is going to care about these recitals you went to!' and I'm afraid the more relevant things will get lost in the chatter.

Ahhh I just want this to be submitted and done with so I can fucus on other things!

I'm listing all the poetry readings and symphony concerts and things I've attended as ec experiences, and there are a ton. I have listed like 50 extracurriculars.

I don't think it'll hurt! I mean I listed horse camp from 4th to 7th grade last year haha

I think the non-vetmed stuff will help with diversity. I'd keep it all!

If you're worried, maybe you could group some things? Like list all the poetry readings together and all the concerts together?

That seems like a lot to me. I surfed through the successful applicants thread to get a feel for roughly how many experiences applicants had and the highest count I found (I didn't go through all of them) was around 30 experiences. I have 19 after condensing a few and cutting one.

Can you condense some of those into less entries? Like "poetry readings" as a whole or something?

Yeah, on second thought I'd definitely group things together where you can! Then they're still there, and the vet things won't get lost.

I think there's probably 3 or 4 groups I could stick things into to help condense it. I just wouldn't have a lot of room in the description to describe everything, if I'm putting 15 readings into one experience, for example. But do schools really need to know every name and date of every reading? Would it feel incomplete to just list names and genres and not describe anything else? (Like would this work: I attended Natalie Diaz, poetry; Brandon Schrand, nonfiction; Robert Wrigley, poetry; . . . )

I would say they probably don't need dates and I don't know that the names are even necessary. Could you not say something along the lines of "I attended X number of readings of a, b, c genres?" If you think the names add something maybe just list a few of them as examples but make sure it's clear that there are more whose names you aren't expressly stating?

I would probably say something like attended xn recitals of various genres including _______. And some more description. I don't think names and dates are necessary.

Do I owe you a coke?

Now I'm second guessing everything. I also have over 30 awards and honors. Should I try to condense there too? The majority of them are different awards for writing, but they were specific awards so I didn't list them together originally. Plus I feel all special to have so many.

I not sure there really is a way to condense them if they're all completely separate awards.

I condensed some of my awards but that was more like... the same award multiple years in a row, the same award from three different organizations, or very similar awards from the same organization that fall under a bigger heading.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Condense where you can but don't sweat about it if you can't.

I'll condense what I can. Thanks for the advice, guys! In my little application bubble I was starting to worry about my sanity.

I'm almost ready to submit mine; I just have to make up my mind about the awards section. I did competitive shooting in high school and had some significant achievements and awards in it, but I'm not sure if that would be controversial in some way. I don't want to hurt my chances.

I would say go for it. It establishes you more as a person instead of just a test taker

I left off my marksman ribbon for military awards for that reason.

I would definitely try to condense down those 100 experiences if at all possible. Extracurriculars are important but I just feel like that might be SO much that stuff gets lost and it might be overwhelming for whoever is looking at your application.
The awards I would list individually UNLESS they you got the same award multiple years.

I was in a ton of plays/scenes/duets/monolgues etc for my theater troupe and just listed the troupe as one experience, with the description something along the lines of "participated in several plays, student-directed scenes, duet scenes, pantomimes, monologues, and more at several venues, festivals, and competitions from school to District to State level. Won Excellent and Superior awards for competitive performances" or something like that. That way, I wasn't listing out each individual thing because that would've taken forever. But that's just how I did it. 🙂

Soooooo I'm a post-bac (non-traditional? How long does it take to qualify?) in that I graduated 3 years ago and I didn't actually list many extracurriculars at all..and zero things from high school. I don't think that my application looks bare though - I bet it's more about quality (in the explanation of experiences, personal statement, supplemental essays, etc) than quantity. I bet the powers that be would look more highly on applicants that can describe their experiences well moreso than just had a billion things listed.

Buuuuut I'm super new to this whole process and I'm going it alone so I also have no idea what I'm talking about/want to make myself feel better haha

Aah! It's so exciting to see you guys getting VMCAS submitted and verified!

Haven't checked into this thread in quite a while, but I just wanted to drop by and wish everyone the best of luck! I'm absolutely swamped with anatomy and histophys so it is really, really hard right now to be thrilled with the whole vet school thing, but then I reflect back to how eager I was to start the application process last year, and how I felt when I got my acceptance, and I smile.

Appendages crossed for the potential c/o 2021! I'm hoping that maybe I'll get to meet some of y'all during interviews if you're applying to Iowa State! :luck::xf:

Perfect! That makes way more sense than what I was doing. And I spent so much time looking up every date 🙄

WSU at least wants experiences entered for every category. I didn't put many extra curricular things last year, and that was one of the things they commented on. They want to know what hobbies you have - hiking, playing an instrument, whatever.

I like the idea of including hobbies, but I just felt weird about extracurriculars in general cause they seem so long ago! I really hope it doesn't come back to haunt me, but honestly I just can't see it as make or break. Like, if I don't get accepted, it's probably something else.

But that being said, I did apply to a few schools that specifically asked to hear about what I did/do other than animal things.

So I'm having difficulties phrasing something. I'm trying to talk about this pug that once came in with a (roughly) baseball sized abscess on its neck (like to the point I went to scruff it and all my hand felt was wiggly jiggly abscess). Would y'all just say "with a three inch abscess on its neck" or phrase it differently?

Just pressed "submit" on both my VMCAS and UGA supplemental application! Now on to fretting about everything getting verified and nothing crazy coming up after the 9/15 deadline. Nothing really to add to the conversations other than good luck to everyone 🙂.

I'd probably say "with a baseball-sized abscess"

I asked a vet of mine about how old I should include info from she said dont put in things from middle school. I didnt put all the clubs I was in during highschool but I did meantion awards from them. I guess I can add them but it seemed stupid to list every club.

Most of my experiences came aftet HS and most aftet college so I can relate there. I think it will be fine.

Anyone hear from schools yet? I got an email from NC State after they found out I was interested in pathology. They were describing all the good things their school has to offer for path. Too bad it's probably a mass email they send to people based upon their interest. I'm like why are you enticing me if I'm more than likely going to get a no. 😉

Heh. They did the same thing with their zoo/wildlife/exotics stuff when I applied.
