Hmmmm... Blue coat ceremony is making me think too much! Only 3 guests... AHHH my parents would like to be there who both have remarried... well how do I do that one! Well if anyone ends up having a spare opening you can save my deciding!

I will have only one guest, you can have my two spots. 🙂

And now lab coat sizes.... I have no idea how to judge that? Should be simple right? Hah!

I'm probably going to go with the coat size that I wear at the lab. Maybe try on a bunch and see what works? I assume the ones for blue coat are unisex sizes just like lab coats...

Good idea I never thought of that. Well if you are going to be there Monday I will totally model them for you =) Not saying I am good at things like that, but at least it could be entertaining!

I'm 5'3 and about average size and a S coat is huge on me. A lot of people got coats that were far too big.

I was under the impression that UIUC admissions doesn't over-accept applicants? Was I wrong?

If any of you are currently in the Champaign/Urbana area, my roommate's dog ran away yesterday afternoon. She is an all black mini schnauzer with docked tail, undocked ears. Has a blue collar with tags and her name is Jenna. She went missing near the intersection of E. Harding and Anderson in Urbana. If you have any information or see her please PM me!

What's making you think that they over-accepted? Is our class going to be bigger than 120?

It was through an SDN'er, (who will hopefully chime in here), that I'm friends with on FB. Someone else posted on her wall that right now there are 140 in our class, and her response was that they way over-accepted OOS applicants. I asked where that info came from, but haven't heard back yet.

I will be upset if that is true and we end up with too many students. That was like one of the big reasons I didn't go to Ohio.

Wow, I really really hope that isn't the case.

I know they were a bit surprised by how many IS students accepted. Normally they go 6-18 people down the wait-list, but this year the list didn't move at all. I wonder if something similar happened with OOS, but they made too many offers (they don't normally over-accept IS, but I could see them doing that with OOS).

Well, definitely post if you find out more! It's gonna be interesting...

Hey it's me. You should be able to creep it as well on my facebook as well GreenMouse or I could just talk to you at work =) But anyways yeah multiple friends have relayed the same message about the class being overly full as well as Dean Foreman at the pre-vet club meeting. I am just hoping people will drop last minute to go to other schools they are waitlisted at! But I don't see that happening with a large amount of people, so.... yeah. Not to happy as well. There are also classrooms that literally do not have enough seating for that many people! It's supposedly at 140!!!!!!!

So ummm plan B anyone?

Yea that's pretty f#cked up. I second squibby's response! What the hell are they gonna do if that's the case and we literally don't have enough room?? This was very poor planning on their part. They really sounded like they had their sh#t together on interview day when it came to the admissions process. Guess not!

The 140 rumor has been all over the place. I don't know what they're going to do...I don't think there are even 140 seats in the 1st/2nd year lecture halls! I've heard the anatomy lab instructors are pretty pissed.

Yea, I think I'd be pissed if I were them! However, per my wife who works in the admissions office at her grad school, they always tell everybody only 12 people get in. But, every year they accept 20 or MORE people, and and they always end up with a final class size of 11-12.

I think the root of the problems is not requiring an admission deposit. Yea, it was nice that I didn't have to shell out a few hundred dollars, but that just made it so people could accept the offer then turn it down at the last minute!

I agree that this is the real issue. Hopefully as the summer goes on people get pulled off of other waitlists. Dean Foreman made it pretty clear during orientation that they only have 121 seats in the lecture halls and though they would love to have more students, they just don't have the space. So hopefully the class size gets down to that number.

The summer is long and people often make last-minute decisions. Fingers crossed!

Yea, I remember that! :xf::xf::xf:

Looks like they now have the classes set up for registration on Enterprise. They have 138 spots open in the year 1 intro courses (less in the electives).

Hopefully they're just covering their bases and don't actually think that many people will register... :xf:

I hope people get into other schools, otherwise, looks like I'll be buying a really comfy lawn-chair for those aisle seats.

haha, I know right? I can just picture some of us chillin in a lawn chair with our laptop in one hand, bud light in the other.

I will wear a sign that says fire hazard as well, but I will surely be one of the first people to the door at least😛

Don't worry! There are definitely more than 120 seats in the 1st year lecture hall. There might not be 140, but I'm not sure of the exact total. Also, the rumors are swirling at school that they accepted 140 on purpose. I honestly have no idea what the true story is, but they've been talking about it in our class because they are saying we would have to stay in the SAME room next year. ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

No way! Really? I personally would much rather stay put in BSB than have to use my lap in LAC 100 next year. The 1st years are welcome to take that room off our hands! You guys staying in 2251 won't really change much for you since I can guarantee that life across the hall is not any different. Fingers selfishly crossed for 140 now...
😉

I have heard that rumor as well because the soon to be second year class supposedly lost a big chunk of students maybe 10 to 12 for various reasons.

we did NOT lose 10-12 people! Definitely 3 that I know of, and I heard one person quit before we started so that's only 4. Where are people getting 10-12? eeks.

Haha that is why I said rumor! I know of one for sure and that was it. People get a little out of hand and I thought that was quite large myself. Like 10% of the class.

heh, wow, rumor mills are amazing! granted-by next year *maybe....MAYBE* we'll lose another 1 or 2, BUT for the most part we're settled. we'll probably get a couple of island students joining us for next year to make up for the loss anyway. this years 2nd years had some of those...

It's a long story kinda, but I spoke to a professor at OSU who did her residency at Illinois, and who is now applying for a job at Illinois, and she said that she specifically asked about the class size, and she was told that it would be 120, with no plans to increase it in the future. I suppose they could have been b.s.'ing her too.

😉

What's this about using your lap? No desks in a lecture hall?

Yeaaaaa LAC100 is the third year classroom. It is a giant stadium seating "theater" hall so it has those tiny little desk tops that you can swing out from the side of the seat. People get excited to be there but I hate that room

Hi everyone... I know rumors are going around about the class size next year, don't worry!! At this point the number is at 132, and so hopefully be dropping throughout the summer so that your class is closer to 120. Everything will get sorted out. Also they do have plans for accommodating all students if the number stays high, no one will be sitting in the aisles. 🙂

so what is everyone thinking about for the electives?

Hey there, people. It'll work out okay. The ASA and Facilities people will figure it out well before classes start.

The second years will probably have a few transfer students. They did, last year.

why is the accidental insurance for laptops stressed so much? will we bring the laptops out to the farm, walk around with it in the clinics, or something?

I think they just stress it in case something happens, they don't want you to be SOL when you lose all your notes and such on there. You will NOT be carrying laptops to farms or around the clinic... it's just that your whole vet school life will be on them, and you don't want to lose that...

oh ok, thanks. i have never lost a laptop due to accidents in my entire life, so it seemed odd to me.

As someone who tripped with her one month old laptop, slammed it into the ground as I tried not to die, and completely destroyed my hard drive... I love my accidental warranty!

If you're not clumsy, it may not be an issue 😉

just want to make sure, if you click accept award, then you're agreeing to borrow the whole amount presented? if you only want a portion of it, then you click adjust, right?

I think I am going with the Public Health thing for mine!

Yep, you need to accept it and then you can adjust it. you can also choose to just accept the lower interest ones and not accept the GRAD ones if you want. you will also need to go through some filing of paperwork so they know you know the rules about borrowing, but that should all be pretty self explanatory.

if you're not moving to illinois permanently (just there for school), do you need to switch your drivers license and re-register your car at IL like a permanent move?

http://www.dmv.org/il-illinois/new-to-illinois.php
that site says that you have 90 days to switch license and 30 days to re-register your car 😕 how would they even know how long you've been in the state...

I know I did, because I was afraid to get in trouble, and also my insurance refused to cover me outside of California, so I had to get new insurance which required my car being registered here. I don't know what other people do, but I was just worried about getting in trouble so I switched everything. I would give your insurance company a call and see if they will cover you in this state, and if they will maybe you could just let it go... I don't know...

looks like you only have to re-register if you're moving there permanently. i still dont know how they would know when you actually move there. maybe they're hoping you follow their honor system--lol

I think I am going with the Public Health thing for mine!

cool! i think i am too. i sent in the form for the lottery for it. I figured why not? if i get in the class and end up liking it, the MPH might be something i pursue. if not, no loss!

Also, just to give everyone some info, I called McKinley about the immunizations/rabies vax. I had my undergrad send me my immunization history, and that had everything Illinois needs. It says on the form something about a physician filling it out, so I called and asked if that was necessary. They said No--just leave it blank and attach the record!

And for the Rabies vaccines, they start giving them 2 weeks prior to our first day of class, and it's on a walk-in, no appointment necessary basis M-F 8am-4:30pm.

Yep! They are super strict about following the vacc schedule too! So make sure you pick a day of the week that will work for awhile. You get a juice box when you are done and they did not hurt one bit for me. 180 a piece and you have to pay on the spot whether it be a credit card or what not.

You get the vaccs at week intervals. So it needs to be a day that works well for the next couple weeks. For instance maybe not a Friday if you intend on leaving that day sometime next week to visit home.

not sure if you know this, but its 3 shots: one on day 0, one on day 7, then one on day 21 or day 28, so if your first shot is on a tuesday, expect to get all of them on tuesdays.
