OOS interview as well!! I actually have a question for the current students...I was looking up the curriculum and it says first years have clinical rotations? Is that in the clinical skills lab or do you get to work with live animals your first year?

During first year, you're in clinical rotations for the second 8 weeks (quarter). You'll be randomly placed in different services and spend the week on that service. That is October through December. Then second year, same deal January through March. Then for third year, you start fourth year early in March.

OOS interview as well! I looked up flights and they seem significantly more expensive ($425) than all of my other interviews, is it just generally expensive to fly into the area?

Im from Florida and i was able to find a very cheap flight from orlando to Blooming-Normal Airport thats about an hour from U of I. So i guess it does depend where you fly from the price. Congrats on the interview! Hopefully we get to meet a lot of people there!

Hi! I'm also from Florida (Orlando)!! What airline is your flight with?

Hi Mom, hi Ski (distant relative), hi Batsenecal! Sorry to bother you all! Do you all know if there is an interview waitlist? I am at a little bit of a dilemma and I would hope that if decline the interview, that it would go to someone else 🙂.
I don’t think there’s an interview waitlist at all.

(Hi daughter!)

Flying into champaign, absolutely. Flying into Chicago (either Midway or OHare) and then driving down is significantly cheaper. Chicago is relatively the same distance away as Indy and St. Louis too.
I flew into Peoria both times I interviewed. Was much cheaper for me than CMI and about half the distance of Chicago.

Hi guys! I will arrive to U of I area Sunday around 8 am for the interview on Monday (Feb 18). If there are any current vet student is willing to show me around and give me a tour of the city, i would greatly appreciate it 🙂 i wanna get to know the city a little and the life style so when if it comes to make a decision i have all my information 🙂

I don't know much about town. Lol. I don't go out all that much, tbh. But I'd be willing to meet up for lunch or something! Can chit chat for a while for sure!

there's also a charter bus that you can buy tickets for from O'hare that I took last year. there's a couple different lines but I think the one I took was called Peoria charter.

I use Peoria Charter to go between Midway and Champaign when I leave during breaks.

anyone know the style of their interviews ?

I want to emphasize that the UIUC interview is incredibly brief and super impersonal. That is to say, during my interview the 4th year student read each question from a script, word for word, and asked no follow-up/conversational questions. No back and forth. The other two in the room never even spoke. And the interview itself only lasted <10minutes.

I say this only bc I absolutely freaked out and thought I screwed it up big time, but that’s how all the interviews are. So prep yourselves for uncomfortable silences and don’t misread the situation- they don’t hate you, they’re just following the interviewer instructions they’ve been given.

That wasn't my experience as far as interviews go. But it'll vary from group to group.

Oh man really?
A bunch of my friends had similar experiences, but maybe we just all had a bad room?
Was yours still short or was it more like a normal-length interview?

Yeah I don’t think mine was super impersonal? I think I remember there being some follow ups. All my interviewers seemed pretty nice.
Mine didn’t take the whole allotted time, but was more than 10 minutes.

Mine was about 25 minutes or so, maybe 30. All three read off the questions and took notes, let me take as long as I wanted to answer. Then when I asked my questiona, it was way more conversational. Each of them answered one of my questions (the 4th year on the curriculum, the prof on dress code, and alumnus on atmosphere).

Your room may just have had faculty/alumnus that had different perspectives on running their interviews. Mine was at 8:20 in the morning, so literally their second person. So timing might matter too.

Mine was at like 1:30 in the afternoon and mine was more like this. So I don’t think it was a time thing

The prof I had was awesome, though. I instantly recognized her when she had her lectures.

For current vet students, how long after the interview did it take them to send out acceptance/rejections/waitlist? I wanna have an understanding on the timeline cause i dont think it was stated in their website

I received my acceptance on March 1st. They sent it to my parents' house, though. Lol. So my sister had to read it to me.

Yeah, about early march is when you should hear accept or waitlist. once you make it to interviews, there are no rejections, just acceptance or waitlist.
Uhhhhhh.......... I'm pretty sure just mail cause I had to send in my deposit and confirmation form that came in the same envelope .
yeah last two cycles only snail mail too.

Im just wondering why they would mail them to the permanent address and not the mailing address.

Thanks! This is good to know, so I won’t be taken aback if mine turns out that way. Do you know if they base their final decision only on the interview ?

I wondered this too. But I worked out in the end, I guess. My sister didn't call me till 6 that evening, so I had spent the entire day thinking I hadn't made it.

Is there any trend for IS vs OOS interview times? wondering if I'm safe to book a flight out of O'hare around 7 pm on interview day (I'm OOS)

Also wondering the same thing. I am hoping they email interview times sometime this week.

My first cycle I had a morning interview (11 or 11:30 or so) and my second cycle I had a 1:30 interview. Both OOS.
I personally booked flights out of Peoria for pretty early the morning after and drove up there right after interviewing both times and just stayed in a hotel that was close to the airport.

Current vet students! I know this has been addressed in the thread previously, but I was wondering if one (or some) of you would be willing to describe the "megacourse" curriculum a little bit in detail? I've read that all your class are combined into 1 grade based on a midterm and a final. What are the pros and cons that you've experienced from this? Do you feel overwhelmed preparing for multiple classes but only one exam? Any input/opinions are appreciated! Thank you!!

Just got the interview invitation last night at work! Does anyone know if it's open or closed file?

Are the interview activities during the day mandatory/important to go to? I'm going to see if I can take a late flight out (depending on what my interview time ends up being) but may have to miss the end of the day info. session/tour in the process.
