Is anyone traveling from california? If so which airport is the best to fly to and what is the best means of transportation from the airport to the hotel?

DO NOT TAKE THE KCI ROADRUNNER SHUTTLE. SKetchiest and worst experience of my life lol. In retrospect I think I would have been better off renting a car and driving carefully since it wasn't actively snowing when I went

I was preeeeeetty sure you had a bad experience but couldn't remember 100% which is why I tagged you

Has anyone ever flown into Wichita? The flights are a lot cheaper for about the same distance from KC. I will also be at the 1/20 interview and I'm nervous about snow delays

I can tell you it's also an easy drive having been back and forth past that way, but I've never used that airport. Bigger than Manhattan airport for sure, but pretty sure it's still a lot smaller and has much less traffic than Kansas City Airport. I'm surprised the prices would be that different (depends where you're coming from I suppose), but if you're worried about weather MCI will give the most options.

I've heard questionable things about some of those shuttles lol. Guess it's a bigger problem if you're under 25, but I have to believe it wouldn't be more than 100-150 to rent a car for the 2 or 3 days you would spend here for an interview. Seems like less hassle. The toll on I70 is only a whopping $3 for a car.

I ended up finding a really good deal on travelocity for a round trip flight to and from Kansas City plus a rental car so I went that route. Thanks everyone for the input I appreciate it

I can't seem to find any contact information for Mary Sue specifically. Can someone provide me her e-mail address or a number that I can call?

Here's all of her info from the bottom of the emails I've received

To me it sounded like people care more now than in the past, whether that's from faculty or just class leadership can't say. But there were definitely a small number of people who would come to class in sweatpants or sometimes gym clothes, etc. I never sunk quite that low lol...but as far as I know no one ever said anything about it..or if they did it wasn't enough to stop it.

I'm a first year and people have worn sweats in my class! Only a couple have so maybe that's why we haven't emailed about it yet. I definitely stressed too much about the dress code before this semester! I wear jeans almost everyday 🤣

Honestly I don't think it really should matter. Yeah, you probably shouldn't look homeless, but seriously there's no need to be fancy just to sit in class all day. It's hard enough without extra demands. I usually wore jeans and a t-shirt or sweater +/- sweatshirt to class. Of course clinics is another story.

It's highly possible my class's officers take things too seriously lol, but they haven't said anything so far this year although some people push it showing up in leggings and T-shirts or whatever. I'm not sure if the complaints last year were coming from faculty, or just within the class. I wear jeans, a nice top and a cardigan most days, or sometimes a dress. There are some people in my class (both male and female) who look super spiffy every day, I'm not sure how they do it!

I'm gonna crash your lectures in a bath robe.

I knew a guy in high school who would occasionally show up to school in a robe (over clothes) and slippers with a newspaper and a coffee mug... he was an interesting person.
We had a guy at my university who walked around with a potted plant on his head most days. I asked him why once and he said, "Because it's a good conversation starter." Can't argue with that logic haha

PLEASE DO.
ONE OF THOSE OLD RATTY STRIPEY BLUE TERRY BATHROBES AND SOME SLIPPERS WITH A HOLE IN THE RIGHT BIG TOE.

If you do can I come over from the undergrad side and take pictures? Oh and I promise to never come to class in leggings and a tee shirt or a dress!

Where's the thread where people freak out about what to wear to these interviews?
You mean all of the past interview threads? Lmao

I'm a man so I wore a suit, most of the women I saw wore a nice blouse and jacket with either dress pants or a skirt. Just something professional.

Thanks. Im overthinking the whole thing...I'm pretty certain as long as I don't look like a dumpster person I'll be alright.
Haha I did the same thing last year!

As far as I know they interview to make sure that you're capable of speaking like a normal person and that you can appear professional. You're going to do great!

Hey all (especially people who have experience flying into Kansas State):

I probably won't be able to buy my ticket until 2 or 3 days before. Do you think that will be a problem? Will there still be seats that I can buy?

Might be more difficult (or at the very least really expensive) if you're interviewing the weekend of the 6/7 because of the holidays. I know Kansas City isn't a huuuuge airport (not nearly as small as the Manhattan airport though) so I don't know how easy it'd be to find a flight that'd work for you. I think someone said Wichita is about the same distance so you could also check there. I don't think it's any bigger than KCMO's airport, but could give more options.

That being said, I DID have to change my flight last year and was interviewing that weekend. There was a freak snowstorm coming towards Atlanta where I had my connection, so I had to change my flight about 12 hours beforehand. Wasn't easy (because of the snowstorm coming lots of people were trying to change flights at that same time) and certainly was not cheap, but I did manage to do it.

Flying into Manhattan could be an issue. I've seen them sold out a lot. Flying into Kansas City should be doable just really expensive if you buy less than 2 weeks in advance!

And don't start your interview with. "I want to be a vet because I can't stand working with people!" 😉😆

By really expensive, that means like $400 something right? Yikes. Maybe the cost of the ticket + the cancellation fee will end up being less than that, so I should just buy it now..........

Also I love working with people! 😳 Back up career is psychotherapist. teehee

Lol you're cute

(Check about refundable fares, usually cost a bit more but idk how it compares to cost + cancellation (also idk if you get 100% back or not, it's not something I've looked into))

Southwest has no fee for changing flights, just the difference if ticket costs more. If the change is less they give you a credit :heckyeah:

I've used them the most out of MCI.

I fly Southwest all the time. If you cancel they give you a credit you can use anytime you fly anywhere (with Southwest of course). They won't give you the money back but surely you could fly somewhere! For example if I wanted to fly tomorrow from HOU to Kansas City it would be about $400 (each way). If I booked Jan 6 now it is as low as $122 each way.

When I did my early admit interview I wore a Navy blazer, white shirt Red tie (with a small yellow stripe - borrowed from my dad), and dressy tan pants.

Good luck to everyone interviewing this weekend! I'll be around helping out and should be on the student panel at the pizza party tomorrow. 🙂 It looks like it should be decent weather, maybe some rain Saturday night/Sunday morning but no snow!

Was the pizza party only for OS? I have my interview tomorrow, but did not received information about the pizza party.

Do you know how we get from our hotel to the university for the pizza party ? Is there public transport or uber in the area ?

So those of us that have been ghosted by Kansas should’ve been rejected right? Does anyone know if they will have anymore interviews at this point?

I think they wait to send rejections until interviews are over, so if people decline interviews, they can offer one to somebody else. They were done sending interview invites and a week or two later, I got an invite. I'm assuming somebody declined their interview. It ain't over till it's over!
