Kansas State C/O 2022 Applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
If you do make sure to get there a couple hours early. Tours usually last about an hour (though one guy gives really long tours and mine from him last year was about an hour and a half) and they want you in the room about half an hour before your interview
Hahaha I know exactly who you're talking about!

In regards to all questions about interviews, I indicated on my application that I had most of my experience with swine. At the interview, two of the interviewers had extensive swine experience. They asked me a couple very specific questions (ie. "What is currently the largest threat to commercial swine herds?"), some of which I did not know. In my opinion, those questions were asked to see how I handled not knowing a question rather than actually testing my knowledge. Instead of trying to randomly guess, I simply said I did not know and offered up information that was related (ie. one serious threat is...). I have been accepted for the class of 2022, so I guess it must've gone reasonably well!

My interview is on next Sunday!! So excited about the pizza party, the tour, and everything. Can anyone please tell me if we are allowed/have time to ask questions about k-state during the interview?

You will! Once the interviewers finish asking you questions, they’ll ask if you have any questions.
There’s also a Q&A session with the student panel during the pizza party and you can ask questions during your tour and while you’re waiting to be taken to your interview from the room where you check in

Those of you interviewing this weekend will get to see the newly remodeled anatomy lab, it's SO COOL! :heckyeah:

Well now I’m going to be camped out next to my mailbox for the next few days
If you don't hear anything in the next few days, don't panic! Some decisions are sent out quickly, but most people will get their letters the first week of February.

I know but that doesn’t mean that I won’t still be checking the mail every day for it

Just got my acceptance letter! OOS! To those who haven’t heard yet, don’t give up hope!

Mine is about 60 ft. away and it feels like a tundra expedition!!
Oh man that’s rough. Ours at our old house was a decently far distance (down our driveway and down the sidewalk a bit) and ngl if it was super cold I just wouldn’t get the mail unless I was leaving the house and driving somewhere

Just out of curiosity, are the acceptances only coming by mail or also by email?

May I ask when was your interview. Just trying to get a sense of timeline. Thanks for answering in advance!

My interview was January 7th and I got my letter today.

Any last minute words of advise from anyone who already interviewed? I have my interview this weekend and I'm freaking out (probably more than I should be) because this is the only school I got an interview at and so I really need this to go well

Breathe, look over the past interview questions on here (there should be a link somewhere in this thread), know your application really well, and just be yourself! It's a really conversational interview, definitely no need to freak out!

Not that it matters, but can anyone tell me how many people are interviewing you? - like in the room?

Typically 3 (2 faculty and a local vet). When you check-in you can ask for the name of your interviewers (worth doing a quick google search).

Will it be in a normal sized envelope that fits in a smaller mailbox for apartments in cities or a larger one where I would have to pick it up from the mail room and be notified about it first?

It came in a standard sized envelope that would definitely fit in a smaller mailbox!

Guys, another question (sorry!), I know the interview is very conversational but considering the interview is fairly short, should I keep my answers short and concise or it is better to elaborate on some of the questions. For example, I assume they will ask me about my research experience and it is a big part of my application, should I give them as many information as I can? Thanks for answering! you guys have been really supportive!

My interview ran ~40 minutes, so I wouldn't worry too much about your time. They were pretty good about asking fairly direct questions (they know your application material), so as long as you're providing meaningful information, I wouldn't hesitate to elaborate if you feel it's valuable!

Thanks! I will try to keep my answers concise yet meaningful then!

I emailed Mary Sue to make sure that the address I put on my interview day for where to send my letter was correct. She told me that my address was fine and Letters for non-resident will go out in February.

Question! Did you have to schedule the tour on your interview day beforehand or can you go after your interview time? Looking through my original email, it doesn't really say. Thanks and good luck to everyone interviewing this weekend 🙂 I'll see you there!:highfive:

They just have tours after each group of interviews so you don't have to worry about it. After your interview they'll show you around.

I'm interviewing tomorrow too so best of luck to the both of us!

Hi folks! I know this was asked before, but I can't seem to find it. Is there a dress code for the pizza party tonight? I'm getting really excited! I'm sitting in the airport terminal right now reading over my application and also info about the school like a nerd.

I wore khakis and a long sleeve shirt (because I despise jeans) but I definitely saw a lot of people in jeans. Some people were still in interview clothes and some people were much more casual

It's casual! It's more of a "sit and listen to the student panel and eat pizza and ask questions" than an actual party.

Good luck to everyone interviewing this weekend! I'll be down the road at my frat house thinking that you all will be third years when I start! That will give me incentive to do my physics (yuck!).
