Kansas State C/O 2022 Applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I think they wait to send rejections until interviews are over, so if people decline interviews, they can offer one to somebody else. They were done sending interview invites and a week or two later, I got an invite. I'm assuming somebody declined their interview. It ain't over till it's over!
That's correct! Rejections will be sent out in February, they won't leave you hanging forever.

So those of us that have been ghosted by Kansas should’ve been rejected right? Does anyone know if they will have anymore interviews at this point?
I emailed Kansas State two weeks ago about the status of my application and they said that I have been waitlisted for an interview. If people decline their interview offers, then we have a shot!

Had my interview+tour this morning and attended the pizza party last night. The pizza party and the tour were very informative, so to those of you who are on the fence about attending either, I would highly recommend both. The interview was very relaxed and my interviewers were really cool.

I interviewed last year and I was wondering if you could tell me the kinds of questions they asked you. I'm interviewing again in January and I'm getting nervous.

In my interview the questions were very broad and I had to ask for clarification on several of them. They also didn't ask the standard questions that everyone said they would ask like, "Why do you want to be a veterinarian?" or, "Why did you choose to apply to Kansas State?"

The question that really tripped me up was "How do you make decisions?"... I had to ask for clarification if they meant in a general sense or in a veterinary situation and it seemed odd to me.

My first two questions were the standard tell us about yourself and why K-state. The rest were specific to my application - similar to "what did you learn from X experience" and "my opinion on Y experience?". I talked to a few people who had one random question thrown in, which the student ambassadors said were used to see how you react to something unexpected rather than the content of your answer, but I didn't get any.

At the pizza party, they emphasized that they often ask re-applicants what they did to improve their applications this cycle. If I were you, I would be prepared for that question as it seems to hold some weight.

Thank you for the info, I'll definitely prep for those questions as well. If anything I prefer to be over prepared so I'll be looking over the SDN interview questions again.

Best of luck with getting in!

Congrats! I have my interview Jan 7 and was wondering what time you finish on your interview day?

It depends on what time your interview is at, interviews last about half an hour and then you can go on a tour after that which is about an hour. Then you're free to head out!

I was able to go on a tour before my interview but I had to check in and get there 2 hrs before. This way I could leave for the airport right after my interview which lasted about half an hour! But I’d make sure that’s possible. My interview time was in the afternoon and there were tours available prior to my interview

Is it bad that I haven't heard back? I'm so nervous 🙁
I emailed and was told:
"We are still in the process of interviewing candidates for our class of 2022. As applicants decline their interview invitation, we will invite others. This process will continue until the end of January. At that time, we will email everyone who has not gotten an interview email to let them know the process is over for this admission cycle."

I haven't been waitlisted. Should I give up hope?

They don't waitlist for interviews so you will either get an invitation for an interview or a rejection.

I assume it’s the same as at every other school? You wait until after April 15th but make other plans in case you don’t get off the wait list, whether that’s accepting a spot at another school or figuring out how to make your application better for next cycle.

There’s a chance that you’d still get in after April 15th simply because I assume they waitlist a bunch because they send you a decision within 6 weeks of your interview but they still have two more weekends of interviews to go through and I assume they have ISers at those weekends too. So there’s a potential that they waitlist a decent amount so that they don’t give away all the seats before everyone has a chance to interview.

Keep your chin up. Even if you don’t get in this year, you still were offered a waitlist position, which is still an accomplishment. Do a file review and see what you can improve for next cycle and come back next year stronger.

Just received a letter of acceptance from K-state! I'm confused as I thought acceptances were going to be all sent out in February.

Sometimes they send out ones early to those they really liked! If you don’t mind me asking, are you IS or OOS and when did you interview?

I'm pretty sure all of the in-state interviews were done in December, but other than that this is correct! You probably won't hear anything until after April 15th. They won't tell you your rank on the waitlist, but if you email Dr. Elmore asking about a file review he may say let's hold off because you have a good chance of getting accepted off the waitlist.

I was waitlisted last year but OOS, I did not get in but I don’t know where I was on the list obviously but I know they tend to send out a lot of acceptances for those waitlisted because some OOS acceptances may be declined if they get into their in state school. KSU is my top school of choice so fingers crossed I actually make it this time! Good luck!

Wow people already being accepted and I haven't even interviewed yet! (mine is on the 21st) Great job on acceptances! And good luck @adoptdontshop626!! I'm sure it'll be your time this time :cat:

For those of you who have already interviewed (and did amazing I'm sure!)
How many questions can they get through in a half hour?
I did a mock interview today and it seemed like my answers were so long!

Has anyone determined whether they need this past fall's transcripts sent in? I've looked through their website, and emails I've received. I cant determine whether or not to forward them in.

I don’t believe they do to make admissions decisions since they had interviews and sent out acceptances before people conceivably could have sent in transcripts because waiting for grades to post and then schools closed for break

I'll be there next week as well! I'm really excited!

Anyone doing Sunday or is everyone Saturday?
Side note: Any advice from current students or those who have already interviewed that we could benefit from? 🙂

Check the interview feedback section of sdn for questions people have been asked in the past. I got a couple from there both years I interviewed. Then others were about my experiences and one or two about classes.

Thanks @SkiOtter you the best 🙂

I had situational questions and ethical questions. Make sure you know your application!! I'm sure you'll do great!

Will they choose things specifically from your experience section on your app?

So I have my interview this Sunday the 21st at 1pm. I was planning on doing the tour after but don't know if they do tours that late. How late do the tours run?

They’ll definitely still be doing tours then. They just grab groups after interviews and give them a tour. There will still be a bunch of people that have to interview that afternoon so they’d still be doing tours.

You could also do the tour before if you choose!

If you do make sure to get there a couple hours early. Tours usually last about an hour (though one guy gives really long tours and mine from him last year was about an hour and a half) and they want you in the room about half an hour before your interview
