KCOM vs KCUMB

Not all schools have +/-. The reason C- cut-off is dumb is a 70% at a +/- school is a C- while the same 70% at another school is a solid C. Good point Also, 70% isn't failing. The arbitrary designation that C- is automatically worse than C doesn't make any sense. Where I went to school, a C- was considered failing because it resulted in a sub-2.0. I was under the impression that this was the general practice.

Also, as far as the rest of your post goes, why take someone who gets <25 on the MCAT when 25 is the average of all test takers? "C" is generally considered an average grade, so C- is below average. Can't take people with a below average grade, but you can take people with below average MCAT scores? Doesn't make sense.Fair enough. Personally I think more emphasis should be put on the MCAT since it is a standardized test whereas the course curves vary greatly from school to school. Good points.

Edit: Anyway, the point I was making is that DO schools having a more holistic process is bogus. Yes, DO schools have lower GPA/MCAT cutoffs than MD schools, but they also disqualify applicants for many more insignificant reasons (C- in a single pre-req, no DO shadowing, no DO/MD LOR, good reason for wanting to be a physician but not for wanting to be a DO specifically) than MD schools do. IMO having specific automatic disqualifiers is the polar opposite of "holistic".
I agree. Neither MD or DO is more holistic than the other in my opinion. Good points. I need to get out of the library more. I'm not thinking outside of my little box as much as I used to.

Man it would suck to go to a school that considered C- failing. It would've taken me more than 4 years to graduate if I had to retake C- to move on to the next class. Ugh.

C- is failing at my school. Have to retake if you want credit towards graduating.

Good thing I didn't go to your school. I wouldn't have graduated on time 😀

I thought you already graduated from SLU for some reason. Are you just retaking classes to replace those grades? Did your MD interviewers ask you about your C's?

MD interviewers have asked me about my bad years of UG. Never really asked about specific grades or classes I did poorly in. They did like to talk about the upper level bios that I did well in since I got C/D in freshman Bio.

You may want to look up more information about the DO holistic process. The holistic process deals with the type of medicine they want you to practice. Treat the patient not a symptom. Pursue overall health through various ways instead of just dishing out a prescription. If you don't like that then so be it but why knock on something that you are using in the wrong contex? And if you want use holistic in their selection process, they want an all around student. Not just one who can show up take a test and go on. There are very few specialties where you don't have to deal with people on a regular basis.
