Lake Erie (LECOM) Discussion Thread 2014 - 2015

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does LECOM have a luggage holding spot? Or did you guys request an extension at the hotel?

At LECOM-E they usually let you leave some personal items in the conference room near the main entrance (or at least they've done this in the past). Things may have changed, but I don't think it will be an issue for you. Alternatively, you can ask them to hold it at the front desk of your hotel or something like that if they don't give you late checkout for free. Either way, your items won't be incredibly secure, but usually people risk it.

Someone who has interviewed this cycle could elaborate if they still do this.

I appreciate the response. I just don't want to add another night. I am not too concerned with it being insecure because the content isn't valuable.

I would really like someone that recently interviewed to chime in.

Sorry, I left things in my car. Call them tomorrow!

some girl in my interview had brought her bag and left it in the conference room. call to confirm

I have an interview on thursday, but I dont have a D.O. LOR, I heard though that you can ask LECOM to set you up with a DO to write you a letter. Do i like email the admissions people and ask? and like how would i phrase the request. Sorry if these may seem like inane questions, I just dont want to ask them in a manner innapropriate, but I do need a DO letter!

Hello all, this question is for all who received interview from LECOM: did you guys include your interest for osteopathic medicine (why DO ?) in primary application since there is no way to explain it in secondary for this school? Some people advice to leave it for secondary applications but I think this school does not have essays in their secondary. Thanks.

I do believe your PS should contain some information on why you want to become a DO, regardless of the COM you apply to. And yes, LECOM does not have any essays in their secondaries.

Thanks for quick reply. Just wondering what are my chances to at least get interview at this school with this stats?
26 MCAT
sGPA 3.85, cGPA 3.77

26 MCAT
sGPA 3.85, cGPA 3.77, graduated with distinction in major
1 year of research at Neurovirology lab and poster presentation
2 years of volunteer at nursing home
volunteer at central registration at two different hospitals (500+ hrs)
letter from a DO, 2 non-medical volunteer for few hours, leadership in scholarship program at college
Your chances are much better than mine, and I was interviewed at LECOM-Seton Hill. Your stats are excellent for LECOM and (probably) every other DO school out there. Don't worry, you'll most likely be interviewed at LECOM.

Does anyone else's status still indicate that their primary is under review?

Received an interview with a 3.2 cGPA and a 3.1 sGPA, but I have a balanced 30 MCAT and quite a bit of volunteering, a lot of which is in rural areas. This is also balanced with a post-bacc GPA of somewhere between a 3.8 and 4.0 (for anonymity- whatever that's worth).

I submitted like june 26 lol.still says that
I check the portal several times every day and today it finally changed. I did not receive an email notifying me of that change so keep checking. My MCAT score didn't come in until around July 24 so thats probably why mine took so long.

Been in primary review since July 28th. I think they come in waves, so I would just hold tight. BTW, 29 MCAT (9/9/11), years of research with first author publication, years of volunteer service at nursing home, volunteer as a tutor for two years and volunteer at a hospital.

what did it change to?

what did it change to?

"If you have not submitted your supplemental application, click the link on the left to do so. If you have, this message will update once we have processed it. Do not submit another application."

To clear things up: if you picked early decision, a decision will be made on your file by Sept. 30th. Then they will start mailing out the letters with acceptance or rejection. If you picked the "late" decision it had some date later on. To me it feels like you can have an decision earlier than Sept. 30th but you will def. have a decision in your hands by October. They mail letters and it can take a while. GL to everyone!

dude i have almost similiar stats! do u also have master's degree ? how long after submitting ur secondary did u get the interview?

Not sure if you're responding to me or Optimistic but no on the masters and I had a 3 day turn around from when my secondary was verified to the email for ii.

Hey Y'all,

I have an interview here on the 19th, and I was wondering what would be some good things to say if they ask me why I want to go to LECOM. I have done my research from the website, but if any current students could chime in on what they like about LECOM I would really appreciate that.

Thanks!

During my interview there were a few people that lacked the DO LOR and they were told they needed to find a DO on their own and get the letter submitted ASAP. I don't know if they were lenient on the letter in the past but I can tell you that this year they are very strict in regards to having it on file for the interview.

Hi, so i read that the interview should last to around 1 pm. Is that an accurate time to stick by because I booked a shuttle to the airport for 2 pm from LECOM. Anyone know? Thanks

GOT MY DO LOR TODAY!!! I was just going to attend II for practice (and see if I can get DO LOR) but game is on now!!!

Did anyone's portal change to a decision yet?

Not yet, they usually meet Wednesdays and update on Thursdays

Could be this week, next, and at the LATEST I think the week after that for us Early Decision bros

EDIT:
Can't wait to see which will come first, my LECOM decision or my iPhone 6

We'll see. See you guys next Thursday! 🙂

Would I classify this letter as professional, nonscience or work?

What is specifically good about LECOM that I can bring to my interview beyond what I have read online? Can any current students chime in on this? I would really appreciate it.

So I am reapplying to LECOM. I did apply last cycle kind of late during last cycle and this is what the admissions status was on my portal :"We have reviewed your application and are interested in you; however you have applied too late in the year to be considered. Please reapply starting in June for the next academic year." Can anyone let me know what can I take of this decision? Does this mean I have good chances of an I.I this cycle or do they send this to everyone who applies late?

When did you apply? How late in the cycle last year?
