Lake Erie (LECOM) Discussion Thread 2015 - 2016

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I highly doubt this. When I went for my interview about 15 days ago we were told that the class is about half full.
It's the end of January, so I really doubt it's half full. Maybe half full technically since very few from the direct-admit programs have been accepted yet, so they're counting those spots which are technically "open" but already really taken.

Hey guys I looked for this question briefly but could not find it. I interview in Erie this Friday, but the more I think about it, the more I like PBL. Is it possible to select PBL at SH as your first choice at an Erie interview or are the interviews done separately at SH?

Yes, it is possible to rank PBL at SH as your first choice when you interview in Erie.

Anyone who is interviewing here on the 18th and would like to have dinner/drinks beforehand in NYC, let me know. Respond here or PM me.

Everyone else, best of luck!

Anyone interview at Erie on 1/8 hear anything?

Just one that I have seen.

ACCEPTANCE LETTER TODAY! Interviewed 1/8. Will be attending ERIE campus this fall! Now to find an apartment.

So, I guess someone from our interview group heard back! Congrats to them - hope we are next! As far as I know I haven't seen anyone else from that date post.

So, as mentioned I was waitlisted at Erie, but got just got acceptance from Bradenton. I remember reading before that someone accepted offer from one LECOM campus and that interfered with their status at the other LECOM campus. Does anyone know if this is common policy? Like if I accept Bradenton will it lower my chances of getting into Erie or kick me off the waitlist??

I'm confused. You mean that it's less than half full?

The opposite actually. He's trying to say that it's more than half full as they probably haven't taken into account all the SMP's that can and will matriculate.

That's a good point. From what I know, at least 70+ students matriculated into the DO program from the post-bacc program last year (between Erie and SH), and this year's students haven't received their (conditional) acceptance letters yet. But I don't know how the waitlist thing works to be honest (for LECOM or elsewhere), as I was told last week there are still spots available. Is that just a school's way of saying they're waiting to see who else applies before deciding on a borderline applicant? Just curious in case I find myself in that situation.. Thanks in advance for any replies!

Does anyone know when information about housing comes out or where you can find a roommate? I will be attending Erie

Yes i heard back last monday..

There is a roommate forum on the portal...and student affairs sent out an email that had some housing options near by (apartments and townhouses)...other than that it's just looking through craigslist/zillow/trulia

I know it has been said a few times before, but what was the consensus on the places where most of the students choose to live? I know about the apartments across the street, but from what I hear those are a little bit pricey compared to other places nearby. I didn't want to live too far away from everyone else though so I wasn't sure.

As others said, there should be info in the Portal or the matriculation packet. But even if you're anti-social-network in general, I'd recommend joining your class Facebook group-- other people will be looking for roommates as well, and students from the classes above you should be able to provide info on housing too.

Ortnakas hi, i have two quick questions. First, how do you pick rotations? Is it a free for all and you have to choose your own, or are there designated rotation sites? Second, after each PBL session, what do you actually do? Do you read the chapters mentioned in the session, or do you read the chapters on the main points that the facilitator gives you?

On rotations: I posted about this a page or two ago, or rather, someone was kind enough to find an old detailed write-up I did a few months ago. Read that, it has all the answers-- I don't have time to recreate it. The TL;DR version is that there's a list of designated site, a list of schedules, you make a rank list and it's assigned by student government.

After each PBL session, your group selects "final learning issues" that you want to cover based on the case. They might be chapters that came up during the session, or it might just be a related topic that you need to cover. (So no, the readings are not assigned by the facilitator.) For example, on a case where a patient has chest pain, you might finish the case and decide you want to pick the physiology of heart sounds, the pharmacology of cholesterol drugs, and the biochemistry of cholesterol and dietary lipids. The tests are based on the readings that your group assigns.

Let me know if that answers your question!

Hey guys just got an interview selected for 2/26. I am wondering if I am just fighting for a spot on the waitlist(aka is class full already) or if there is still room in the class. Not trying to sound ungrateful! I just live very far from Erie. I have heard great things about the PBL learning path however.

Very very thankful ortnakas. I remembered seeing that list but was unsure where but thanks to your guidance i found it again
As far as the PBL this is what i needed to know to make my decision .I know some may find the process intimidating, but i think it really fits with my style. Thank you for taking the time to answer. I can only imagine how busy you are.

Okay thank you! I have signed up on the portal and joined my facebook group so hopefully I get some replies!

When I interviewed on 1/19 they said the class was half full. They seemed to be a little sketchy about answering the question though lol

Does our class have a fb group yet? I honestly haven't looked

So for wait list applicants, do we just sign the paper and mail it back to them??

Yes. You have to mail it back, otherwise you will forfeit your spot in the waitlist
Thank you Johnyellow. I just mailed it back today, hope to hear something positive! Do you know by when the wait list actually has movement? This is my only interview, so kinda worried!!

The waitlist will move aggressively towards the end of April. Around that time i STRONGLY recommend you send a Letter of Intent. I am told that will take you a long way in LECOM

OK. I was interviewed on 21st jan and did not heard any thing. Does any one know how much time to know result. Is any one in this thread interviewd that time.

Hello all I am new to the thread!
I completed mid December and just got an interview invite this AM for Seton Hill (That text was a welcomed sight in the middle of class!)! This is my first II so i am even more nervous and anxious!! :nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting:
The only two dates available for me to sign up for were: 3/15 and 3/28. I am not sure if there were more, but those were the only options I had!

I tried skimming through the thread but 55 pages is a whole lot and I am supposed to be studying biochem 2 right now (priorities man) so i had a few questions if you don't mind!

- could anyone who interviewed at SH possibly give me a run down of the day and what format the interview is?
- i'm confused on whether interviewing if I interview at SH, is there a possibility of interviewing at Erie as well or do you only get one? And I saw someone mention that you can choose PBL at SH if accepted at Erie, but does the opposite go for SH?

thank you! thank you!

Whether you interview at SH or Erie, you will have the option to express preference for either campus, and I believe, any of the other pathways, including PCSP (my 3 year primary care focused pathway), DSP (directed study) or LDP (lecture discussion).

I didn't interview at SH. I'd imagine it is the same as our Erie interview, but I will let someone else speak to that.

One thing... don't be too anxious. LECOM interviews are very chill. They really want you to relax so that you can put your best foot forward. If they gave you an II, they like you and want the chance to meet you in person. Just be friendly, attentive, and professional... that will get you very far. Meantime, no stress. You have over a month to get ready for the interview, so study hard and come back to this thread when you have time.

Concur with @Promethean. SH indeed has the same system where you get a chance to list your campus & pathway preference on interview day. Do note, however, that SH only offers PBL.

Thank you for your awesome, encouraging response! 🙂

If there is anyone out there that can walk me through the interview day (how many people are also interviewing, the format of the interview, do they ask medicine//politics questions) please let me know or PM me!
It is greatly appreciated!! 🙂

II just a few hours ago, scheduled 03/11
Congrats! 🙂 At seton or erie? also what were the dates you could choose from?

to everyone else-- i got an invite yesterday but 3/11 was not an option?

Does anybody have photos of the facilities (inside) of LECOM Seton Hill that they could post?

The only thing you can do at this point, if you've already selected a date, is to email the name on the portal. I think they have instances of choosing specific dates for certain people, but I'm not sure as to the criteria.

Reading back through the thread, it looks like the dates available to you were through SH, which would have different dates than Erie.
