LECOM - Erie Discussion Thread 2009-2010

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey everyone,
Just curious, has anyone who applied end of December or later heard back from LECOM about an interview? What is the average turnaround period? If you have a DO letter and premedical council letter showing as processed, did your portal still say deficient in sci letters?

Thanks

complete 1/12, interview invite 1/21 for 2/26. after they sent me an email saying they had processed my application, nothing showed up on my portal. so i emailed them and they responded within a few days saying they had everything.

Does file in review mean the application is complete and being reviewed by the committee or could a file be in review according to the portal but still have incomplete items?

Thanks

Hey all!

Does anyone have any idea when the admission committee meets? I interviewed last friday and was just wondering when I should expect to hear anything. I'm already getting antsy! haha

I was there last friday (1/29), too! I've been ansty for days now. Maybe we'll hear back by mid-next week?

I have an interview on 3/4 in the morning. Anyone else??

I interviewed on a Thursday and they told us that they only meet once a week, Wednesdays, then they send letters out the next day so however long it takes depends on how far from Erie you live i guess! My mail is being forwarded to a new address so it took extra long for me! hope this helps, I know its nerve-racking!

I just withdrew my interview spot for this monday, february 8th. Best of luck to all!!!!

You should go to LECOM B if you have the option. Good weather in Florida and PBL beats the main campus any day of the week. It is freezing here, trust me.

So...is it just me or is anyone else having trouble getting to Erie this weekend to interview on Monday? =\

Hey everyone!
My name is Bobby, finishing my first year as a PBL student at LECOM.
i wanted to offer up congrats to all those who got in for 2014, and to those who are waitlisted or waiting for march/april interviews, no worries, some people in my class were accepted in late april, no joke.

Good luck and see you in the fall

Do they assign you a date for your interview? I am a full-time chiropractic student right now and have board reviews and exams coming up. I know I won't hear back until they get my January MCAT scores..... do they just say congrats you have to be here on this date for your interview, or do you get a couple of dates to choose from?

They assign you a date and if there is a problem with that date call up the school and see if you can change it

Hi!

I am a second year student at LECOM Erie and I'll be away on rotations next year. For those of you who found out that you were accepted for the 2010-2011 year...congratulations! We have a townhouse for rent if you are looking for a place to stay. It's a 3 bedroom 2 1/2 bath townhouse for 1200 (400/person). The house is fully furnished (including washer and dryer)! Theres a 2 car garage to keep your car out of the snow and the rent comes with snow removal service and lawn services. The townhouse is located about 7 minutes from school. The mall, Wegmans, and major restaurants are closeby. We were very lucky to live in this complex because the townhouses are the nicest around! I have attached a document with further information. Please call Amy at 610-216-5400 if you are interested or have additional questions. Thanks!!

Hi I am new, I just signed up today...

Is anyone here interviewing in Feb? I got my interview invite for Feb 26th...

Does everyone know what the chances are after you've interviewed?

Thanks!

I'm interviewing at Erie on 2/11 and Bradenton on 2/16.

Hey everyone,
Does anyone know how LECOM-Erie lets students know they are complete? Does file in review mean that we are complete?

Thanks

I think there is a page under their portal system that says what papers you lack, if any. I dont think they would review your file unless you were complete either.

Hey ya'll

I just declined my acceptance to LECOM Erie Lecture Discussion today. The just got a wierd feeling from the school, and knew it wasn't the right fit for me, especially after seeing other schools (it was my first interview) though I don't doubt it's a good education. Good luck to everyone else in the process!

Has anyone that interviewed on 1/29 had their status change on the portal yet?

For everybody's information --

I just got an interview invite today (complete 2/5). They're still handing them out, so if anybody's waiting, hang in there.

When are you scheduled for an interview??

Hey, WallyWAF! I need to withdraw as well. Will you please tell me how I can go about doing this? Thanks!

You should defiantly call them!!!! It does two things. 1) gives you piece of mind that you are complete or informs you what you are lacking and 2) Reassures the admissions committee your interest.

hey has anyone from ohio done their criminal background check? I'm struggling to figure out how to get mine!! thanks!

I am having trouble as well, but I am from Mississippi. Apparently, Mississippi only does county level searches, and none of the places will give me a card to get finger printed on...I called the Security guys at LECOM several times, Moses is friendly and can help answer some questions, but you have to call within a very small window to get ahold of the other guy who has folders for each states process of getting a background check. That window seems to be at around 8 am to maybe 1 pm...I was never able to get ahold of the guy myself..so, I just went ahead and did the FBI check using their paper printed finger print card. Hope that will be good enough. If you cant find the steps to take on your local government/Police Dept. webpage, I would try calling the security guys at LECOM sometime in the morning and ask them they have information on the process for your state.

Has anyone dealt with this problem in the past:

I just had my 3rd Hep B immunization done yesterday...now I need to wait 4-6 weeks to get another titer drawn...but that will put me past the March 1st deadline for having the medical information in. Do I just submit the paperwork without the titer, then send that in after I get it? or just wait until I get the titer done?

Send Amy Rowe an email. I was having issues meeting the deadline and she told me to get the info in as soon as I can. I wouldn't recommend sending it in incomplete because it says on the forms that they will just send it back.

I received an interview from LECOM-E for 3/5.. just wondering a few things
whats the best hotel option (i will be flying so I wont have transportation to the campus)
should I be worried that I am interviewing so late?
and last, what can I expect interview wise.. I have never done one before and I have no clue what to expect/anticipate question wise..
Erie is my first choice (im from NY and I love the snow) so I am really hoping to get accepted.

Don't worry about the interview date. People DO get in with late interview dates, and really, there's nothing you can do about it. I'm actually set for a 3/1 interview.

As far as interview tips, at the top of this page there's a link to "Interview Feedback." On the front page of SDN, you can search for other interview tips. I would suggest doing a ton of research on the school as well.

The interview is important. Put in the time to making yourself ready to go when you're on campus.

I have an interview scheduled on 3/4. As for transportation, most of the hotels will pick you up from the airport, take you to your interview, and then pick you up from the interview and take you back to the airport.

Hey everyone,
I'm a long time reader first time poster. I need a little bit of advice similar to a previous poster. I am very interested in the LECOM osteopathic medicine program, and submitted my secondary application in mid December. When applying, I decided to use the option of two science letters and the DO letter. When checking my portal a few days later, I found that it stated the DO letter to be received and a pre committee letter (I didn't send one), but also mentioned that I was missing a science letter. I have been trying to get in contact with the admissions staff (phone message, email) with no success. The portal says my file is under review but I don't know how to proceed. Do you think my application has been processed and is on hold or is it possible that it is incomplete?

Thank You

This March 1st deadline is annoying. I don't think I'll have my criminal background check results by then. If I do the PPD test before the 3/1 deadline, I'm probably going to have to get it repeated before school starts. Thankfully, my titers came back as immune to the bugs listed.

Dont worry about the Criminal Background Check, from what I read in the packet, the only paperwork that is due on March 1st is the Immunization/Health Background/Physician Physical. But yeah, I dont think the people who put the paper work together really did the math or proofread the packet information, seems like they rushed to get it sent out - I found a couple spots where they didnt finish sentences. I was wondering about the PPD also, but went ahead and got the first one done this week. And, whats up with the alcohol test? Am I not allowed to drink a beer before I start school?

I got the first one this week too. My annual PPD test for work was due.

You can drink alcohol before you start school, just not before you take the screening test 😀.

quick question for those who have been accepted. How long after the acceptance did they send you the matriculation packet? I was accepted at the end of november and paid my deposit in december. However, all i've heard from them is to fill out my fafsa. I did not get anything about completing the criminal background check.

I was accepted July 30th and received my matriculation packet in December. So I imagine you will get yours later maybe around March 1st (wild guess...Do not quote me!!).

Good luck with your titers, I had one come back too low so had to get more shots, more labs, more time and spend more money. It will be a photo finish for me!!!

I have read in other threads applicants concern for interviewing late and the possible lack of open positions. There is a concern that at best you are fighting for a waitlist/alternate position.

Here is my positive spin on possible available positions at LECOM. Now this is only circumstantial evidence at best!!!! I imagine that most students have Facebook accounts and those who are accepted would join the Facebook group.
Now there are around 160 positions to fill and yet there are only 68 members in the Facebook group. Some of the 68 members (around 8-10) are from the 2013 Class. So that being said I have reasons to believe there are some positions available.

I could be completely wrong but is it wrong to give hope? Best of luck to everyone interviewing and I hope to see you in July.

You should call and email LECOM about the packet. There are several things that need to be done, some of which have a March 1st deadline (according to my packet).

I'm guilty of being accepted and not joining the facebook group yet 😳

Interviewing on Monday 🙂 I am a little concerned that I am not overly nervous so I hope that is a good sign. For LECOM being my first choice, I would have thought the nerves would have been kicking in by now :xf:

And, whats up with the alcohol test? Am I not allowed to drink a beer before I start school?

Man, I'll be in for a ****ty summer if I can't have some good Belgian beers before starting class...

You can drink this summer. Just don't drink a couple days before the EtOH test, get it done, and then go celebrate. I drank plenty of times last summer before school started. We went out as a class a bunch of times the week before school started.

So I'm assuming it's a bad sign if you've had your letters of recommendation and supplemental application in by the beginning of January and the online portal says that your letters haven't been received/entered. My application is still "under review"

heh you should give them a call/email. My status was like that too until I emailed to ask - it was changed shortly thereafter with an email notification from one of the admissions counselors.
