LMU c/o 2020 applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey everyone! Congratulations to everyone who was accepted! I am applying to a lot of schools, and am considering adding LMU to my list. I do have a few questions though that I hope someone can answer.
1) I read that LMU is in TN, but then saw on their website that the vet school is in VA. This makes me confused..what town and state is that actual vet school in?
2) To anyone who currently goes there, how are you enjoying the school?
3) When are all of the typical interview dates for LMU? Does anyone know the ones for this year?

Thanks everyone!

Hello! I will start this Fall at LMU!
1. The main campus is in Harrogate, TN. The vet school buildings themselves are on a farm in Ewing, VA. It is ~20min drive between the two campuses. We have classes on both campuses. What is really cool about the school is it is right on the border between 3 states: tn, va, and ky, so you spend time in each of the three states. There are people who choose to live in Middlesboro, ky, which is 5 min from main campus in Harrogate.
2. Can't answer that yet, but I am really excited to start classes
3. Last cycle the interviews were spread out from September until February/March. They have a sort of rolling admissions so that they go over your file and decide on an interview date based on how early you get everything in. I submitted my app in early september and had all lors and transcripts in by the deadline. I got an email invite for an interview in early/mid-October for an interview the last few days of October. They have set interview dates for September-December, but they don't post those on the website. Usually those who interview early will be able to see other dates and may post on here. You can look back at this thread and at previous year threads to get an idea of how they do the interview process

Hello I am going to be a 2nd year this Fall at LMU!

1) As futurevet3 mentioned our main campus is located in Harrogate Tennessee. Currently we use rooms in the Math and Science building at the main campus, but I believe they are in the process of building a new building just for the vet students right on the main campus (Fall 2017 last time I checked). Then there is also the farm which is located in Ewing Va, which is roughly a 20 minute drive from the main campus. Pretty much all of your labs will be located at the farm (Clinical skills, Professionals Skills, Anatomy, ect.). As a first year you will spend a lot of time at the farm (mainly due to anatomy) but you will also have classes at main.
2) I really love this school! I was accepted to Iowa, LMU and Illinois and of the three this was my top choice and where I decided to go obviously! The atmosphere is great and the area is absolutely beautiful. The teachers are all wonderful and come from a variety of different backgrounds which gives us a lot of diversity. One of my favorite things is how our clinical year is run, instead of having a teaching hospital we go out and do rotations at different clinical sites that are located all around the country (there is a list on the school's website if you are interested in looking at some of the options)
3) I can't be sure if they have changed this but I interviewed in December the year I applied. I know this year we saw interviewees around at various times during the school year.

If you have any other questions feel free to send me a PM 🙂

Thank you so much for your reply! I had no idea that students spend time in different states while attending LMU! That's pretty cool. That is also good that they have many different interview dates over several months. That will make it a lot easier if/when I get an interview. Do they do MMI format for interviews?

Hi I am considering applying to Lincoln as well!

1)How does that work if you have to travel between the two campuses? Do you have to drive or is there a local bus or something I could take? Most likely having a car might not be an option for my first year or so.

2)Also is there on campus housing or does everyone just rent off campus? For most schools I figured trying to live on campus might be easier the first year since I won't have a car. I was wondering if this was an option at LMU.

3) Are interviews typically on the weekends? I will be graduating in December, and know most schools interview around then or January, so I was not too concerned about it being during the week, but would be if I'd have to interview and still be at college.

Thanks!

1. No public transportation or buses. Most people who live in TN carpool out there.

2. There is on-campus housing and now we have some pet-friendly on-campus apartments as well. Most people love off-campus because it's cheaper.

3. During the week, not weekends.

Okay, thank you. Is finding someone to carpool easy to do? And if I lived off campus are the places to live nearby so I could always walk or ride a bike? I'm just trying to figure everything out now so I can plan ahead.

It just really depends on your classmates to find carpooling arrangements. There's not a lot of places close enough to walk/bike-mostly just on-campus housing.

No MMI. The interviews are about 20 min long and they ask questions about you, your experience, what you are interested in, and some situational questions.

I am going to be living in Mars. How bike-friendly is the area? I was thinking about getting a bicycle and riding down the road between the housing and main campus. Can I ride a bike down that road?

Okay thank you so much for answering my questions.

It's relatively bike-friendly. People respect bikers, but we don't have much of a bike lane on the shoulder.

Our class was pretty good about carpooling! In fact there were a few kids who didn't have cars, so they had people who they would help out with gas money in return for a ride. Personally I live with 2 other girls in my class in a house that we rent near the farm, and we all take turns driving during the week so that helps too!
