But the question now is what if someone actually starts classes verses deferring.
Deferring can hold your seat up to a year for programs, and not every program will require the deposit to defer.
I think the question being asked now is what happens if someone accepted, matriculated, and began classes on Jan 9 at LMU and then got an acceptance from their IS or dream pick between Jan - August.
This I don’t have an answer about though I would assume most programs have a drop by period. It’s entirely possible this scenario could/has happened.
My educated guess would be the person would be out their deposit, materials cost, initial attendance/upfront costs, other miscellaneous fees, etc to leave and the program.
I think one additional item to consider is the impact on financial aid/loan approvals (if any at all).
I’d also say if you have a program you’d do this for, it’d be worth doing a financial pros and cons and determine if you should decline a spring offer or email and ask to only be considered for fall.
Edit: has anyone who’s been offered a spring seat asked if there’s a deferral option for spring, especially folks with financial restraints that does not allow for them to start this year but next? Aka, 2028 Silver.
