Mississippi c/o 2017 applicants!

Just wondering...this whole last 45 hr GPA shebang, is it the last 45 hours before we apply, or would it include this semester's grades ? Just wondering how it all pans out..

For interviews, they would only count the 45-hours before you apply, but, since they require fall transcripts, I'm assuming they include fall grades for decisions on who to accept after interviews.

is anybody else getting really anxious about friday?!! i just joined on here, first application cycle for me and oos

i am! My stomach is in knots :scared: I hope we get good news!!!

Good luck everyone! Friday is soon! Just a heads-up. I'm not sure if she'll do it again this year, or what time she e-mailed interview invites last year. But when I applied, Missy didn't send interview invites out until about 7pm EST. Almost all the e-mails I got from Missy when I applied were sent out around 6 or 7pm EST.

i checked last year's thread and the posts saying i got invited for an interview ranged from 10 am all the way up to 11 pm EST, so I'm not sure if they are staggered throughout the day or that might just be when people are able to check their emails and post on the website depending on if they work or not

Hey! I was wondering if anyone could give me a few reasons what attracted them to apply here and why they want to go. Thanks!

South Carolina has contract seats at MS State - as a resident of SC I can possibly attend MS State's CVM and pay in-state tuition, with South Carolina covering the difference. Furthermore, MS State's curriculum is styled so that you have two full years of clinical rotations - more cases, more hands-on learning, etc., all prior to graduation. However, consequentially there's more information packed into the first two pre-clinical years. Their case load is very good for students, there's opportunities to go out on spay/neuter rotations with their mobile unit and perform many of those surgeries, and their NAVLE pass rate is high. Also, every single person at MS State with whom I have spoken has been extremely nice and welcoming.

Got my interview invite at 2:02 pm! Right in the middle of surgery...lol

YAY! Congrats ppl!

Just got back from vacation to find an interview invite! Yay!!! 😀 Congrats to everyone else who also received one!

How do you get to MSU affordably?! I cant find a good flight that works well with my schedule!

I plan to drive (from KY). I haven't even looked at flights but might be the next step. Shoot I still have to get an outfit.

I am looking at flying into Arkansas, Alabama, or Kentucky... and driving a rental car in. its still way cheaper than a lot of airports in MS. Its a beast trying to get out there!

So just checked some flights.....yikes!😱 I'm thinking I will be driving down as of now. Probably make me a happier traveller anyway.

yeah, I cant... Im in Oregon 😛 derp.

Right in the SW waterfront area 🙂 I moved out here a few mo ago and I love it!!! u?

Erhmahgerd!! I used to go to Portland State so I lived in that area for a while. Pure awesomeness.
My parents actually live in the NW part of town and I am visiting them for Christmas. I'm leaving tomorrow evening, but we should grab coffee and rave about OSU 😍 :xf: next time 🙂

Hey, new to the forums! Can anybody give a recommendation for hotels near MSU? I'm looking for something cheap that also has a shuttle to the university. 😉

For sure !!!!! 😎 .... now which coffee place to go to? There are just so many 🙂

Just wondering if anyone knows how many people Mississippi interviews?

Has anyone heard back from Missy after RSVPing to your interview date? Are they going to let us know that they received our fall grades or should I call?

I haven't heard that she received my RSVP either. Hmm...

Same I emailed and got the auto I'm out of the office message.

OK everyone, CALL them to confirm your interview!!! Some of the e-mails are apparently not opening.

I live close to NYC, but not in the city. Have interview the 13th. So nervous!! MSU is my first choice . How about you?

Okay, Interview Prep time guys. What is MSST known for as a Vet school? Does anyone know of any past questions that through you off? Anything else youre keying on?

One of the vets I work with applied to Miss State and was telling me her interview questions. She said they asked her why she would choose MS over her in state school like 3 different ways. Her ethics question was a hypothetical situation. Say your best friend is a breeder of labs and she has one that she wants to show. However, this lab has a tiny spot of white fur on its chest. She wants you to surgically remove that patch of white fur. Do you? I thought that was an interesting variation of the cosmetic surgery issue. I would like to hear what else MS is known for as well, other than the 2+2 curriculum.

Anybody from NYC with an interview???🙂
.

I'm from NYC, grew up on the upper west side and went to NYU. I don't have an interview but I'm a second year vet student at MSU so I've been there lol

If you have any questions let me know.

I would like to know the answer to this too, please.😀

I'm pretty sure you can get really good one on one experience with board certified docs during your clinical rotation through this emergency center hospital (I can't recall the name!) that's located away from the campus - you stay there for I think two weeks and live in the housing provided right beside the clinic during that rotation. I've heard it's pretty good there because, for example, there aren't residents and interns in front of you watching a surgery during that rotation. They have the whole 2+2 program too. Hmm

Has anyone gotten an email confirming their interview time? All I was told was that mine was on the 6th.

Last year I didn't get my interview time until the night before at the pizza party or maybe it was the day of my interview? Lol I can't remember but I'm excited to interview again 🙂

I e-mailed them back and they said they do not have any interview times yet. They will have those closer to the actual date. So, I guess just make sure you remain available the entire day to be safe.

Just thought I'd throw this out there:

Last year I interviewed on Feb 6th, and final decisions (for acceptance and wait lists) went out by Feb 22nd.

Also, you'll find out your interview time the morning of your interview. Interviews start fairly early, and are in 15/30 minute intervals (sorry, I don't remember which). Also, they are alphabetical more or less, if that gives you an approximation.

While I'm at it, wanted to say that MSU is SO nice and the interview process was very laid back and comfortable (not that I was any less nervous!) So, for all of you interviewing, don't stress too much and just give it your best shot! Good luck everyone!🙂

I have my interview on the 13th, I'm really looking forward to it! I've heard great things about MSU, but I haven't had the chance to go out and tour it myself. I'm glad to hear the interview wasn't terrible, I have no idea what to expect, as this is my first (and hopefully last) round of applications!

For what it is worth:

My interview experience last year was very casual. There are 3 interviewers from various fields. The first thing they asked me was: Tell me about your research. 😱 Also, I've worked at a vet clinic for 4 years, and they asked me NO questions about that. Instead, they asked me about my high school job at a gas station, ha. They stick to your application and pull many questions from there about your personal experiences. Additionally, they did ask me a few of the typical situation questions: low income clients/ good character traits to have, etc.

Also, personal note, they have water for you in the waiting area - take advantage of it! I was so nervous that my cotton mouth was making my voice crack - so embarrassing. They asked if there was anything else not brought up that I wanted to mention; and also asked if I had any questions at the end. Just throwing this out there in case anyone wanted some first hand info!

The pizza party is VERY casual. It includes a tour of the school - wear comfortable shoes! Probably my biggest regret of the trip, ha. The entire school and staff is so friendly and accommodating! The facilities are very nice. The tour made me feel like I was already accepted, haha, I hated to leave the campus!

Good luck! Don't sweat it! 👍

I'm from queens and my interview is on the 11th. I just finished interviewing at Iowa so I think i'm over the nerves of interviewing lol 🙂

I interview the 12th, does anyone know if you can request interview times? In order to do the tour, pizza party and the interview I have to miss 3 days of class. Which includes two finance lectures and give how fast he goes he'll cover like a 3rd of the book. I have to drive up Sunday, pizza party/tour on Monday, interview on Tuesday and given I'm at the END of the alphabet I'll interview late which means I'll have to make the 10 hour drive most likely on Wednesday.

It would be really nice to interview early on Tuesday so I can head home after.

It never hurts to call Missy and explain your situation...she may be able to help you out!

MSU is amazing Missy is helping me with my interview times to work with my classes. Also a first year student emailed and texted me tonight introducing herself and asking me if I have any questions. Southern hospitality at its finest! 😍

I asked Missy if she could possibly let me go earlier in the morning as I have to drive ten hours home following the interview. She said she would see what she could do.

I'm really looking forward to interviewing with MSU. Too bad the Arkansas contract seats still haven't been funded 🙁
