MPH / MSPH 2021: Applied, Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected, Attending

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I wouldn’t worry too much!! My dad posed that outcome when I first applied. Not that he didn’t have faith I’d get in anywhere, but he knew it was going to be competitive and didn’t want me to be heartbroken if I didn’t. I now have three acceptances, one rejection, and just waiting for two other responses. My stats are pretty average too, I also only had a year and a half of a normal college experience to get any experiences in for my application. The universe just has different plans for you and it wasn’t that program! 😊
thank you for your vote of confidence, i appreciate you sharing your experiences. what schools did you apply to? i hope you get into the other schools you are waiting to hear back from šŸ™‚

I'm sorry, it must be upsetting, I agree with the poster above that you will end up where you need to be! Can I ask what school it was? I am waiting to hear from 2 schools and I am worried most of them are sending out rejections at this point.
it was tufts! my grades arent as good as yours so if thats one of the schools you are waiting to hear from i hope you get in

Listen, I love Emory and all, and I’m super grateful to be accepted to their program. But I swear, I receive one more email from them that’s not financial aid related, someone is gonna catch these virtual hands.
lmao i know people are annoyed about Emory sending a million informational/marketing emails but they're working....I keep getting closer to choosing them 🤣

Accepted to Berkeley hbs last night!
Congrats for your acceptances! I am very interested in this particular program at Berkeley (planning to apply for 2022). I am wondering if you have any tips/pointers to have a strong application, what your stats are, if you had an interview, anything else that you would recommend to someone applying in the future, etc. Feel free to message me if you would rather do that. Thank you!! šŸ™‚

Question-- you can pay your deposit to hold your seat and not attend right? You would just lose the money? I'm thinking of paying my deposit at one of my schools to start applying for assistantships. Thanks!
Yes. 100%. This is a really smart move. I will probably do this as well since I don’t think I can commit by April 15.

anyone hear anything about merit scholarships from Columbia? my portal says that info on awards would be sent 3-4 weeks after acceptance, and I'm not sure if I just didn't get an award or if there aren't any sent yet ...

$40K over 2 years from Columbia in merit aid!!!! (Nothing about need-based that I can see.) I'm literally sobbing, Columbia is my dream school and now it's actually happening. I ended up at my safety school for undergrad despite getting into my then-dream school as well because I couldn't afford it. Now I can finally attend my dream university and I am so so grateful.
Congratulations! This is amazing!! Was your portal updated or did you receive an email?

Me! I submitted my application mid-Oct, received in review stats on Jan 26th. Which concentration did you apply to? I applied to global health!
I applied to Health Communication and Promotion! The wait has been painful, hoping we all get some good news this week!

Anyone hear back from Johns Hopkins, Yale, or Harvard today? I have no idea when JH or Yale release decisions and I know Harvard is mostly Thursday... but hey, you never know ĀÆ\_(惄)_/ĀÆ
Also waiting for JHU MSPH International Health!

Yes! I am also still waiting on Global Health and applied a long time ago as well. I got confirmation of under review 1/25 and told 5-6 weeks. Today is 5 weeks for me.

had the scariest thought today which was what if they just don't give me a decision...like what if i keep emailing and asking and they just don't respond and i never get a decision....i am definitely on the brink of insanity
me with University of Maryland lmao. in NOVEMBER they said 6-8 weeks for a decision.

For some of you are still waiting on Havard, this thursday/friday are probably the days you get accepted. Then waitlist/rejection will follow in two weeks.

For some context, I see myself working in a community-based organization or county/state public health department geared towards family and youth health programs. I have been working with youth and young people on the community level for the past two years and graduated from the UW with a degree in PH.

I am definitely still in the beginning stages of researching programs however when I looked over Berkeley's program in HSB it really drew me in. The multidisciplinary faculty in the program with the MCH and Nutrition tracks housed under the Community Health Sciences division, offering of the Specialty Area in Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health, and the Center of Excellence in MCAH for internship placements are some things that especially stuck out to me. The HSB track interests me for its emphasis on understanding and researching health behavior on a community level and evaluating research-informed interventions and policies. From undergrad, I've learned how valuable the internship can be to making connections after grad school and the Bay Area is where I'd like to work in the future so building my network there is another big reason on a more personal level. I appreciate how in-depth the field placement process seems to be on truly getting an internship that matches your interests, didn't have as much luck in undergrad. I have a couple faculty members in mind as well who have similar research interests. Their DREAM office for students also looks like a great support system that I was very pleased to see incorporated into the program as well.

I see that they're very firm about work experience prior to applying and I will have about three years by the start of the program. A couple things I'm worried about is not having prior research experience impacting how strong of a candidate I am as well as paying out-of-state tuition and what the opportunity for aid is like if any. I am planning to hopefully attend some virtual fairs to learn more, but this is where I'm at right now šŸ™‚

I am concerned! I am wondering if its just us who did not hear back from the BU Global Health concentration šŸ™„

BU is giving me so much anxiety. I applied in November and my application went to review on 1/15. I applied to the CAPIE concentration. I emailed them last Friday (six-week mark) and they gave me a generic email about how they will try to get me a decision in 5-6 weeks.

Possibly! I am really concerned it is a rejection at this point it has been so long, almost too long. I emailed a few weeks ago asking about it and they said "early March at the latest". I don't know if BU is doing it in batches or just randomly? I agree with what someone else said is that BU has gone to the bottom of my list because they haven't gotten back to me and it's been over 3 months. Some people on this page I saw submitted their app in early January and got accepted like 1/28 and that just made me mad. Like honesty they are giving off bad vibes in general, not to mention annoying me.
