MSU-COM Discussion Thread 2012-2013

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thank you all!

Back in Sept and Oct I was checking my email every Wednesday thinking please accept me, hurry up accept me.

By December the wait list started coming out and I started thinking please put me on the wait list, please, please. 🙂

Funny how the season changes our hopes.

I am rooting for all of those waiting to hear something. Especially DrMeows because I know you have been waiting longer than me and you know exactly how I felt all along.

Finally!!! I made the alternate list. 🙂

Not as good as an acceptance but I can live with that for now. Plus, I also got the email for the visit day. 🙂
I'm really happy for you!!

Everyone, keep your hopes up..its basically February and soon it will be March...that wait list is about to gain some momentum!

Thanks for the kind words 🙂 I sure hope you're right! I've gotten interviews at 6/9 of the DO schools I applied to....but when it comes to my state school, no love!! 😡 🙁

About a week ago. I was shocked! I called the office to confirm, and it is correct. Good luck!

That's awesome! Congrats! Now that you have been accepted, would you mind sharing what your stats were? I've been on the wait list since mid december and I would just like to figure out where I stand in proximity to you. Again, Congrats!

I've been on the wait list since October so I'd love to know also. Congrats premed159!!!

His stats are on his mdapps, but the way he entered it into SDN does not allow for just clicking the link. But if you search mdapps with his screen name you can find it.

I was reading last year's thread and there was a talk about a top ten on the wait list. I was very curious about this because no one here seems to have a clue where they are on the wait list.

After talking to the admissions office I did find out that they would have a top ten list but it would be around April or May. So it is nice to know that once it gets closer to June we will have a better idea how likely we are to move off the wait list.

Has anyone else been told this or know anything else about the wait list this year?

I wish they were doing the guaranteed spots for the following year. It would have been so nice to know that I would not have to go through the cycle all over, worst case scenario. 🙂

Just got a rejection in the mail. Sigh.... This was my last application. All rejections... Well GL to the rest of you and congrats to those who are starting in a few months!

Sorry to hear that. I hope you have a far better cycle next time.

I'm sorry 🙁 mine probably isn't far behind. Strange they do it through mail now; I got an emailed rejection last year. Do you mind if I ask your stats and complete date?

I'm sorry but there is always second chance so never give up!

my friend just met with someone from admissions and she said that in order for your app to get reviewed for sure (100%) you have to at least have a 28 mcat. Mcat sounded like it was their number 1 thing they look at. The rest is a point system, so they want ideally 900 volunteer hours and give you like 120pts for that, then look at your sgpa and give you X amount of points for that...tally them up and see. hope this helps you guys out there, im not getting in here this year...goodluck to the rest of you

You know that for sure? If so, sorry to hear that. 🙁

I searched the thread but couldn't find this. Is there a facebook group for accepted students?

Yea, basically. The lady my sounded like the chances of getting anything at this point is pretty bleak. I have one interview this far so I just have to dominate that!

Aww dang. Looks like their average MCAT jumped a couple of points. Hopefully I still have a chance at making the wait list.

Don't worry nshalaby. As long as you haven't received a rejection you still have a chance! 👍

Also congrats Jas1360 for being on the alternate list.

Yeah, I agree, until you receive an official letter it's not over. I mean look how long I waited and they just notified me this past week. Sure they are wrapping up, but that is no reason to assume you will be passed up.

I'm still holding out hope for the rest of you guys/girls waiting to hear.

For current students or anyone that knows, is just the anatomy module part of the pre-matriculation stuff required?

If you are referring to the outline of questions and assigned pages from the book, yes that is required..we had a 20 point quiz on it in the first week of class 🙁

Has anyone else been accepted to both Michigan State's MD and DO programs? I am really struggling with which to choose. Is there a certain type of student that chooses one over the other? I am really looking at comparing MSU's schools, not an MD/DO debate (although I would love to hear any opinions)! Can anyone offer insight?

I applied to both and if I had to choose, I have no idea how I would make the decision. I have not interviewed at CHM, I'm still on pre-interview hold. I have been to MSUCOM and I loved the faculty and students. I think I would have to compare that feeling to the feeling I got at CHM if I interviewed there.

If they both feel good, you could make your decision based on whether you want MD or DO.

If you have a scholarship at either you could base it on finances.

Honestly, I think you actually have two good schools to choose from and there is no wrong answer.

My biased opinion is go with MSUCHM, there are a bunch of us here on the MSUCOM waitlist.

Didn't you interview at the Secchia center in GR? That already should have made up your mind

Good luck everyone. I hope those still waiting hear something today. 🙂

Accepted off the waitlist just around half an hour ago! s-h-o-c-k-e-d!!

Thank you!! and good luck to you and everyone waiting!! 🙂))

That is so great! Two weeks in a row now at least one person has been accepted off the wait list! This is great news! I wish I knew my number!

For those accepted, when is your full tuition due??

My premedical advisor told me that of the students she knows who have gone to CHM and COM, that on average more students seem to like COM better. She said that it seems to be because the student body is more diverse at COM as compared to CHM.

yes wait-list's moving for sure 🙂
I'm OOS

After 6 1/2 months, finally got an answer from MSUCOM. Rejected. Disappointed because I was so proactive with my application. I got 6 DO interviews, but no love from my only state school. 👎 ah well, just being bitter. Good luck to everyone still waiting and congrats to all those that get to go to msu next year!

That's a huge bummer. 🙁
I thought you would have made a great classmate.

I am happy that you will still be going to medical school next year. 🙂
