NCSU c/o 2017 applicants!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hehe we posted that on one of the older threads.... we've definitely got at least one or two people from admissions who seem to wander onto here every year in spring. They did take that out for the 2016 data. 😛

I'm glad they did. We work pretty hard to make the forums run smoothly and there's a lot that is anecdotal, but there is a lot of good info here.

Is anyone applying/ who applied in the past from a school on the quarter system? I just want to make sure I'm entering my prerequisites correctly.... i.e. for the "full year" sciences I put my first two quarters of the subject under "Gen Chem I" for example, and the third quarter under "Gen Chem II." Does this sound right?

I love Ohio State to death, but quarters are making this process much more complicated than it should be. 🙄

If you have more than 3 LORs, do you email Natasha to let her know which 3 you want them to read, or is there some other procedure to let them know that info? They only read 3, right?

Apparently they only prefer three per applicant, and it's highly recommended that two of the three be from veterinarians or PhD scientists with whom you've worked in a veterinary or research setting. I have 5 LoRs on my VMCAS, and NC State's supplemental does not have a spot to list the three that you would prefer that the admissions committee reads. Hmm

I emailed Natasha regarding this, and she no longer works with the vet school (although she is still working at the University). Instead, she forwarded my email to Jessica Aycock who now works at the CVM ([email protected]).

Jessica informed me that all recommendation letters that they receive will be read. So, whether you send 3 or 5, they'll read 'em!

That makes me so sad. Natasha was amazing!

Ah so they will read all of them! Good! They probably prefer three because that's two less per applicant they have to read.

If you're overly curious:

It is with mixed feelings that I announce the departure of Natasha Dillon, CVM Admissions Assistant. Natasha has accepted a position as the Graduate Services Specialist with the Physiology Graduate Program in the College of Agriculture and Life Science, where she will serve applicants, students and faculty. Natasha started at NC State with the University Bookstore and joined the CVM Student Services Office in 2010. Her last day will be Wednesday, September 12.

She has been a wonderful resource in recruitment, admissions and college outreach. Natasha's contributions to the CVM are greatly appreciated and she will be missed. However, I hope you will join me in congratulating her on her new role and wish her the very best in her higher education career.

For what it's worth regarding letters of recommendation, I only submitted the three they requested, no more.

At her invitation, I had faxed unofficial copies of all (8) of my transcripts, b/c I was having a devil of a time calculating gpa's. Now I know why I never heard anything back. Thank heaven I blanked out my SSN on the transcripts since I have no idea where they ended up!

Wish I had known...Oh well.

Hey guys! Just chiming in as an NCSU hopeful! I actually really liked their essay questions. It was refreshing to see some different kinds of questions. Plus, their staff was really helpful on the phone with my many questions.
Good luck to everyone!

When do we start hearing from NCSU??

When do we start hearing from NCSU??

For OOS last year letters went out like jan 20th i believe....year before that like dec 22nd...

But they had more apps so who knows. NCSU is so vague & aloof...no timelibe, no interview, no emails...this of course makes them all the more desirable

They did say in an email that they'd alert us (through email) if we are disqualified at any point along the way of them processing our applications I think. So far, no news is good news, but once this school semester is over (one more week!), I am going to be thinking about vet school non-stop... how amazing would it be to get accepted to NCSU for Christmas!

I wouldn't get your hopes up too much. (I'm not saying you won't get in, just that they notify Jan/Feb) They were the last school I heard from (not my last acceptance, but I had interviews done before hearing from them). It seems to be a trend, maybe because they don't interview.

I think it's only early cuts. Not meeting minimal GPA/course requirements. Bulk of rejection letters went out with acceptances last year

.

I don't remember ever getting a "Receipt of Credentials" email :scared: Did everyone else get one??

Fun fact, if you go to the website and look at the accepted stats for the last application cycle. The lowest accepted non-resident cumulative GPA is totally mine....

This thread has been quite for a while. I know out of state decisions are supposed to go out around Jan. 31st, but has anyone heard anything? Might they be coming out earlier/later?

Thanks for any news.

I haven't heard anything, but they need to hurry up and get them out. I wanna meet my future classmates.

I concur. Are you finishing up your PhD this year and starting in the fall, then, Fox?

No. The program is super convoluted. I'm doing year one of Grad School, then first 2 years of vet school. Then finish PhD. Then finish vet school.

How are you liking it so far? I applied for the DVm/phd program but am OS and worried they will most likely choose IS for the DVm phd. I really hope I get in, I have a lot of regenerative medicine research experience & really want to be a vet scientist & come up with better ways to help animals.

Has the Student Services Office been in touch with other people as well on a pretty frequent basis since school has started back up?

I was OOS and my GPA was the lowest OOS out of DVM/PhD and regular DVM candidates Almost all of the combined students are out of state (like 80%+). I like it so far, Raleigh is really fantastic. Feel free to PM me with any questions about it

Does ncsu have an applicant status page? My other schools do but I can't seem to find one for them and waiting until the 31st is driving me nuts!

Nope. Sorry.

My school was very delayed with posting grades for Fall and I didnt get my last grade until January 5th and my transcripts weren't sent out til the 8th. I JUST got an email from NCSU that they received my transcript. I was in contact with Johanna Donovan since the end of December regarding the situation and she said she put a note in my file that my transcript will be late, but I never expected it to get there THIS late. Should I be worried?

I wouldn't worry...I didn't send my transcripts in until the 4th, and I talked to Jeff Huckel about it, who said, and I quote "I prefer to receive the transcript by January 9 but will allow a postmark of the same date."

I JUST got my email that they received it, and I'm not worried. As long as it was postmarked before the 9th, we are safe 🙂

They never got fall grades from me because of studying abroad, haha... and because I got in, I actually never even got the grades converted into US grading. 🙄 Just keep in communication and explain situations and they work with people. 🙂

I've been in touch with them since the day after Christmas to make sure that they knew the situation and have kept them updated since. I just wish they didn't make us wait until January 31st to hear ANYTHING. Its so stressful!

COMPLETELY. Is there any chance of acceptances going out as early as tomorrow up to the 31st? That is what their timeline says from last year.

I'm a little anxious about NC State right now. I lived in NC until 2011, then moved up to DC. except for last semester, i've taken classes each semester when I was in DC (so it was easier to claim NC residence as a student up here). However, last semester I didn't take any classes, just worked full time in VA. I am again taking classes this semester, however. I called admissions really early on in the cycle and asked them about my situation, and they told me to apply as a resident and that there was about a 50% chance that I would be denied residency. If so, I could challenge it and probably have a good case (driver's license, car registration, financial support, and vote in NC). This is REALLY important to me because I had to apply alternative eligibility (my last 45 GPA didn't meet the cutoff), and so if I'm not considered a resident, they won't even look at my application. I haven't heard anything with regards to being rejected or denied eligibility yet, but I'm unsure if they've really rejected anyone so far. I'd obviously love to go to NC State because its close to home and I loved living in the area for undergrad, but I'm trying to stay realistic about my chances there (first i'd have to be deemed a resident, then accepted under alternative eligibility). Do you think it would be reasonable to call admissions and ask about my residency status? Has anyone been/is in a similar situation?

I would call and ask. They sent out emails to students that said if they would be in the in-state pool of applicants and thus had to wait till March or not.

Hey guys, how's everyone doing out there? I'm completely new to this forum so HI! 🙂 Has anyone started hearing back from vet schools?

Ive never wanted to hear any news so badly. I am trying SO HARD not to get excited because I know there are so few spots for OOS but I cant help it...everytime I have gotten an interview invite from other schools all I think is "well if they liked me NC might too!" 🙂
