NCSU cvm c/o 2015

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I know earlier in this thread I said I was 95% sure I was coming to NC State.... well now its 100%!!! So you can add another OOS c/o 2015 to the list! 😀

Also, I actually visited the school last Friday - and yes by the time I got there it was deserted, but Johanna gave me a tour and I loved it. The school is beautiful and really nice. Especially with the updated library and the soon to be opening small animal hospital. And Raleigh seems like a great place - much bigger than what I'm used to, but that it what I want! I am definitely looking to live around the Crabtree Mall area - seems from what I've been reading that it is a popular place and easy to get to the vet school.

So I am very excited and I will be coming down again for the April 1st weekend. And good luck to all those ISers soon to find out!

And in regards to where the letter where sent - they were mailed to permanent addresses.

Yaaaayyy!! Classmates! 🙂

Just make sure you live on the vet school side of Glenwood Ave! Getting thru the Glenwood traffic around Crabtree at rush hour (or Christmas) can be pretty awful! 🙂

As to whether to get rabies early, several of my class got moderatly ill after shots 2 and 3.

If you react to other vax, consider doing it before school. I react to tetanus, and spent a couple days with flu like symptoms following each shot. Several times the shots were on exam days, or the day before, and I was incredibly grateful not to be that sick.

I did not have the school insurance, and it was expensive (though cheaper than it would have been at the vet school without the insurance.)

Is the rabies vaccine required? if not about how many people each year opt not to get it??

I *think* you have to have it by clinics, but there are quite a few wetlabs and such that you can't participate in without the rabies vax (no one checks it, but we had a huge exposure a couple years back during a student necropsy lab on a horse.....which had rabies.) just not worth the risk.

Thats scary!!...I agree not worth it but I was just wondering..thanks!

For all of you other ISers waiting, I heard today that they are going to be mailing out letters on Monday! Here's to hoping everyone gets good news! :xf:

OMG.....that makes me sooooo anxious..but thanks for the info and Congrats on all of your acceptances hunterjumper!!!!!

Who did you here this from? I know a couple people who would love that info, but would like to know how strong of a "heard" it was. 🙂

I had already heard from a few other people (other ISers I met at OOS interviews) that NC State would be sending out letters the first week of March. I have a friend who is taking a class that took a trip to the vet school yesterday, and as Mrs. Donnovan was explaining the admissions process, she mentioned that they were sending out the IS letters on Monday. By itself, I might have been skeptical, but it coincides with what I had been hearing, so I'm hoping it's right! 🙂

Thank you Paris! I'm really excited about them, but I'm so ready to hear back from NC State! :xf:

You just turned this into the longest weekend of my life, hunterjumper 😛

Haha, don't worry, it will be the longest week of mine too! LOL

I found this info out earlier today and debated posting it on here, but then I thought how much I would want to know if someone else knew something like this. And then that way I can have a few other people to stress with/obsessively check my mailbox

NCSU only does snail mail and not email, right?

Oh, and thank you very much for telling us 🙂

lol. it could be worse, in my class they mailed them out on a friday afternoon.

Really? I don't know if I could've handled that; it would have ruined my weekend! LOL

It was bad....half the class got theirs on Saturday, and half on Monday. one girl got a letter to another girl, but to her address, on saturday, and couldn't find out any info till monday.

Ok, that would have freaked me out and drove me crazy all weekend! I would probably set a new SDN record with the number of posts in one day LOL

Thanks so much for the info hunterjumper!! Now time to stalk the mailman...

That's crazy! I've also heard that from a friend who has an inside source at the vet school but I was skeptical because the website says the 15th. I'm starting to believe it though! I hope it's Monday. Fingers crossed for everybody.

I was thinking they may mail them out next week...but not monday! Im so anxious and nervous, but definitely ready to get past this waiting phase! Does anyone know if they will be sending out acceptance/waitlist/rejection decisions all in the same day...and also is it in a small envelope again like last year?? I dont know...maybe you OOS acceptances can tell me??

Good luck everyone waiting to hear!!!!! :luck:

My acceptance letter was in a standard size envelope, although it was a tad fatter than a junk mail credit card offer since it had four pages total, I think (the acceptance letter itself was 2 pages, and then one page was the actual form you send back to indicate your acceptance, and the other one was an educational release form).

Kind of OT, but you guys talking about acceptance letters makes me remember what it was like to get mine. That acceptance letter was the best Christmas present ever (truly it was, since I checked my mail on Christmas...I guess it had been sitting in my mailbox for a couple of days, oops!) and I remember running/skipping all the way back home with it in my hand! When I got inside, I started dancing, haha. 🙂 It's one of the best feelings in the world to get that letter. I really hope y'all have a similar experience this Monday (hopefully it's Monday, the sooner, the better, right?)! Dance your hearts out when you get those letters!

Mine was also a Christmas present on Christmas eve! I was on the phone with my boyfriend and saw the mail was coming so I went outside to get it and saw the NC state envelope. I said something along the lines of "I think I just got my first rejection..I'll call you back later" (because I had already come to the conclusion that I was not getting in since there were only 18 OOS spots and I had been telling everyone how I wasted my time/money applying there because I wouldn't get in). Well I got inside and saw my acceptance! I was in complete and utter shock and I was shaking. My mom screamed when I told her and it was hard for us to resume cooking dinner for a bit. When I think about it now I still am in complete shock that I got accepted...but also very very happy!!! 🙂

My acceptance also came in a regular sized envelope but it felt a little thick because it had 3 pieces of paper in it (I'm not talking really thick but thicker than 1 piece of paper). I got the letter a few days after Christmas! Actually it came the day I got back from visiting my parents. And as far as the address sent to... I only have one address so I can't help you out there.

Good luck to the IS applicants!

Thanks! So glad to know I can stop checking my mail twice a day. Bills should all be on time this month. 🙂

Hey. Is anyone (IS) going to call the admissions office to ask if the letters are being sent out today? Or has anyone already called? :xf:

I think the admissions office posts a time line so that anxious applicants are well informed of the process.

I've noticed that 75-90% of what is posted on SDN regarding admissions is incorrect.

That's why I read the website.

Read the thread.

The timeline also said that non-resident decision letters would be mailed on January 31, and the OOSers got their letters around Christmas. So it is possible that they could mail out resident notifications earlier than March 15. Like I said in my previous posts, I just heard from a few different people that the admissions committee was ahead of schedule and could have the letters out in the first week of March. None of this was officially from anyone at the vet school, so it's not set in stone that letters were sent out today.

Guess we will find out in a few days! 😀

I was not planning on calling because I don't want to bug the admissions staff. I figure if we get them, then we get them. If not, then we'll know in 2 weeks anyways 😀

The NCSU student body has heard IS letters are being mailed TODAY. That could, of course, change or be a rumor. But go with it and start stalking the mailman!

I think they may start mailing them today, but it'll probably take them 2 weeks to get them all out the door. Figure that office has about 5 people and there are about 280 envelopes (based on previous years) to send out. So, some will probably go out today and some will go out on 15 March. On one hand, I want to know. On the other, I'm afraid to find out. Either result is a combination of disappointment and life changing euphoria. If it's a green light, I get to follow my dream at the expense of being poor once again. If it's a red light, I continue down the path of disappointment, and continue to excell in a career I detest, and get to move into the exciting world of diving rebreathers. Option one seems better to me. I need a challenge.

Thanks for the info Nittany. Hopefully they are mailing them today 🙂

And Armymutt, hopefully your letter will contain good news 🙂

I hope so. It's hard to guess with my application. On the one hand, my GPA is horrible - I think it came out to a 2.89 after factoring in a rather poor showing the second semester of grad school. If there was ever a case for hold what you've got, it's me. My GRE was pretty good and hopefully they look at the time between the two and figure out that I might have changed in the past 12 years. I've also got a good amount of life experience, and have been to places few, if any, other candidates have been. The application seemed to focus a lot on diversity, and while not so diverse in the traditional sense, I'm way out in left field when it comes to other stuff.

Two bloody weeks. I need something to take my mind off all this. Good thing it's about to get crazy at work again.

If I get accepted, I will strive to prevent you from meeting my wife, unless I can find a Purdue grad somewhere else in the school. I don't think I can handle any more blue and white. 😀

Did you know there is a Triangle Penn State Alumni chapter? They get together and watch the games in some bar. Used to be in Morrisville, but I think they are moving to a pizza place that is more family friendly. If you want the info, shoot me a PM and I'll get you the info.

Bwahaha! You won't be able to keep her away from the rest of us Lions here at the vet school (there's more than just me)! 😀

Niiiice! I'd love the info - I'll send you a PM!
