NCSU CVM Updates

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
All I've gotten is an email saying they received my fall transcripts, but that's all. The suspense is killing me!

Has anyone heard anything from NCSU CVM? Any new e-mails?
I haven't seen a thread on any updates for this school- any news would be great!
p.s. Hang in there everyone!!!😕

Letters concerning out of state students should be sent out by the 31st of January. This is what the website indicates, I'm not sure about in state students.

Hope that helps!

Im from NC so I have to wait foooorrrreeevvvveeerrr to hear anything back from them. Im just lucky the vet clinic i work for is pretty busy so I am too busy running around like a chicken with my head cut off all day to think about it too much. But then I get home... now that I've started hearing from other schools its only made it worse. I have started checking my email like 30 times a day 😎

For all IS NCSU applicants, I applied last year as an IS and got an email that they received my info (as ya'll did) and then did not hear anything until March and it was an accectance letter/package. However, the year before, I received a rejection letter and it was A LOT earlier. So, from my past experience, the longer that you don't hear anything from them, the better. Because they do not do interviews, you will hear from them a lot later. Good luck to all!

It looks like last year the OOSers got an acceptance call on 1/13. That's TODAY! ahhhhh

Yeah I am in pins and needles about these guys. I cant figure out if I should start freaking out about it this week or around the 31st... BLAH Just tell me already!

Thanks OliveOyl - that's very helpful...it will bring my stress level down a bit 😉
and to the OOS applicants...have you seen the stats for this year? 523 applicants - that's almost double previous years! luckily us IS is about the same as before...but good luck OOS guys!!

That really makes me want to call them and see if they are ahead of schedule! Has anyone else tried to contact them?

Wow. That's a lot of OOS applicants. Doesn't make me feel so good 🙁 I'm guessing the acceptances/rejections will be a little delayed compared to last year if they have so many more people to evaluate. Ugh and I was really hoping today would be the day.

Haha! A 1 out of 523 shot at acceptance. I'm starting to prepare myself for that rejection letter any day now. 🙄

My guess is that it's because they removed the business requirement starting this year.

I received my rejection (IS) last year after the admissions letters were sent out. I received it via in mid- to late- March. The folks that were offered positions heard about a week before I did.

Get ready for a long few months if you're in state!

I was thinking about trying to get into contact with them, but I guess perhaps I will just wait a few more days...

We just started back this week, and it is a chaotic time for our admin (financial aid stuff, some students had family tragedies over the break, and getting all the other general elective/selective/beginning of semeter stuff straightened out.) I wish you all luck and hope to see you next year!

For the IS folks...it seems like an achingly long time....and last year they were sent out before a weekend, meaning that some received it on Saturday and some not till after the weekend. Argh!

Good luck everyone! I know waiting can be hard. I was an ISer and I managed to endure the wait, even over that last loooooooong weekend Sumstorm mentioned. Stay strong, and I hope to get to meet all of you next year.

Do you remember what business course requirements they required in the past? That is interesting.

Not real specific, but 2 semesters of business/finance classes. I took micro- and macroeconomics to fulfill mine! Which worked out b/c it also fulfilled my social science requirement for my BS.

Yeah, general business; Econ, accounting, management, business communications, etc.

But they dropped the requirement for the next class because they also require us to attend a 2 week selective on business.

So I guess we (OOS) won't hear until next week or the week after? I need to RELAX!

So the latest update that I have received from NCSU is that they received my fall transcripts (got that email today), other than that it does not look like acceptances/rejections for OOS students will be any earlier than the end of the month.

For OOS, does anyone know if they call you or just send acceptance/rejection letter?

From last year's acceptance thread it looks like all OOSers who were offered a spot were called. I'm not sure about the rejections though...

Did anyone ever call them to see when OOS decisions will be available, or are we just sticking with the 31st on the website? I am hoping they;ll be finished early!!!

Yeah I called the other day, and they said end of the month...booo.

To be entirely honest, I'm just glad I'm an OOSer at this point, haha...I'm already done with my interview for my IS school, and thus have 2 months of waiting for it...sigh...

So I'm just glad I'll be hearing something by the end of this month 🙄

Maybe we'll hear this week! (Crossing fingers)

heard rumor that things are later than last year due to the volume of OOS applicants.

So I guess we won't hear until next week? I'm going crazy!

just think, IS will have at least another month to wait!

🙁 Waiting longer for way less of a chance of acceptance. Sad panda. Guess we can all hang on for two more weeks!

I'm crossing my fingers that we get phone calls or letters this week, even if I get a rejection at least I will know.

I emailed them on a separate issue and received a reply this morning. This was included:

Non resident applications have already been to committee and decisions have been made. Letters to selected applicants will go out this week; followed by those on the waitlist and then those not selected. You should know your status soon
.

Here's to stalking the mailbox!!

So are they not calling this year? I guess if we don't get a letter this week that means rejection 🙁 Good luck everyone! I know I'm gonna be on edge all week!

Eeep! I keep promising myself not to get "sold" on a school so that rejection won't feel so bad...but there's so much about NC State that I love. Whenever I start thinking about the school, I try to convince myself that there's no way I was accepted. If I go in with a realistic/pragmatic/pessimistic view, I can only go up from there if I get a (highly unlikely) acceptance!

NittanyKitty...you would go to NCSU over Penn?

I am 95% sure that I would choose NC State (or Missouri) over Penn purely from a financial standpoint. The difference in cost for Penn's IS tuition and NC State's OOS tuition after gaining residency is on the order of $50,000 (give or take a few thousand). That money is the downpayment on my first house, a new car, supporting my future kids, etc. Money and chance of acceptance were the two factors that really shaped my list of schools to apply to. I am 110% dedicated to this field, but the debt scares the living daylights out of me!

I thought NCSU no longer allows students to change resident status...am I confusing it with another school?

GellaBella, I believe you can not change...unless married to a resident or one of those other crazy restrictions.

I think it's Florida that changed that ability this year - they're grandfathering it in and allowing the class that applied under that condition to still obtain residency. And NC State definitely does allow it. You have to be sure and get everything completed and filed the summer before you start (to allow the 1 year period to take effect) but it can be done without marriage: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=691823&highlight=tuition

One of the benefits of attending NCSU is free legal cousel, including counsel to become a legal resident, enabling a studen to obtain IS funding after the first year. At least, that is what has happened in the past and for the class of 2013

Do you think that most of your classmates who wanted and worked for IS status were able to get it, sumstorm? Any real problems or headaches that you've heard of?

The only 'issues' that I have heard are students who didn't start the change of residency stuff (ie driver's licence, car registration) immediatly during orientation. If I came from OOS, I would do that even before classes, then legal will walk you through everything else. Plan on spending the first summer IS (don't know if it is absolutly required)

Greetings!
You have applied to the CVM at NC State for the upcoming school year. I am the Scholarship and Financial Aid contact for current and future students in the College of Veterinary Medicine. I'd like to give you some advance information regarding scholarships and financial aid at NCSU and the CVM.

Please read this important information if you have applied for 2010-2011 and you are interested in ANY Financial Aid or Scholarships for the upcoming school year.

You must complete the FAFSA to be eligible for ANY financial aid or scholarship. The priority deadline to file is March 1, 2010 and is coming fast. Students who complete the FAFSA by March 1 will have priority for NC State grants (if offered admission). One major difference between completing the FAFSA as an undergraduate and a graduate/professional student is that you no longer need to include parental income on the FAFSA as you are now all considered "independent." So, go to the FAFSA website and update and/or complete the electronic form and submit it no later than March 1, 2010. The website is: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ Our FAFSA Institutional Code is 002972. You should complete the FAFSA to be eligible for any financial aid at any institution so complete this and submit it even if you aren't sure that NC State CVM is where you will be attending! Be sure to complete your social security number as this is how NC State will match you to your FAFSA information.

Should you receive an offer of admission, I will contact you with information regarding additional financial aid and scholarship paperwork that you will need to complete to be eligible for financial aid at NC State and scholarships at the CVM.

Information regarding private scholarships for those admitted students will have a separate application and I will send those out to you via email as they become available. Please pay close attention to the individual deadlines for these private scholarships.
Please email me with questions regarding Scholarships and Financial Aid.

Just a side note, for those applying to other schools that have the HPSL, you will need to include parent info to be eligible for the HPSL at those schools (we don't offer it.) We received the same email last year.

Uh I didn't get one of those. Hmm. I wonder if that means anything
