New Jersey Schools Part II

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So according to the email they made a change in the grading system. i had to call the school anyway today and the admissions office confirmed that RWJ will be p/f for the first two years. this only applies to rwj, njms has no plans on changing their grading system.

Thanks for the info, Sunny! I was very curious after I got that email... I'm assuming clinical years will still be H/HP/P/CP/F?

They said just the first two years. to be honest i don't even know if the 3rd/4th year is graded at all? some programs are just written evaluations. i would have thought that at some point maybe someone in the admin. would have mentioned that they were considering this change, and i am REALLY glad that i sent in my deposit to them now.

hey sunny, i thought you said you were going to njms?....u're going to rwjms now??...either way, congratz on both acceptances

I'll kill two birds with one stone.

Anyone accepted at RWJ going to the reception in April?

Has anyone found anywhere nice to live yet? When are you guys going to start looking?

Oh and that email from Dr. T in reference to the new grading system was so sweet. It was like icing on the cake. I'm definitely going to RWJ now.

thanks. i would say the addition of p/f changes my decision. both schools are amazing and i had to make the choice... initially i was going on gut feeling that njms just felt "more right" b/c for the most part the schools offer the same stuff. and really i didn't mind living in newark and thought it was actually a bonus. however...having the option to attend a p/f school is like asking me if i would rather stay in nj or go to oklahoma. it just seems way better than a four (or five) tier system. i just wonder why they didn't advertise this more. i was VERY close to not even sending in my deposit. i just did it in case njms burnt down before august. i just wonder how many other people will change their minds also.

and yes.... i am going to the thing in april........and my mom might come as a "guest"... so i will be the one hiding in the corner with mama *sunny*

So guests are allowed to attend? You just indicate how many people when you RSVP? I wasn't sure based on the invitation...

yup. when i called she asked if i would be bringing anyone. it seemed like if you wanted to bring your parents that was fine. i guess it is more of a family/open house instead of a student thing. anyway... bring someone! then i won't be the only one with a guest!

This news is amazing. I am so glad that I took this year off in between undergra d and med school.

I got the call from Dr. H last Thursday at 9:17pm. He mentioned he would sign and mail out the acceptance letter on Friday.

But there was that freak snow storm on Friday on the north east. So they probably mailed it out on Monday. Meaning I should get the letter Wednesday or Thursday.

As you can tell I am sort of freaking out. What if the letter got lost cause of this snow storm? Or my worst nightmare, I am afraid what if I imagined the whole phone call from Dr. H. That would be so embarassing, especially after I told almost all my friends and mentors at school.

How long did it take for you guys to get the acceptance letter, once they got the call from Dr. H? I live in north jersey, near Newark.

umm..ur definitely overthinking everything..check ur recent calls list and see if in fact u received a call from heinrich...take it from there

Hello all,

After months and months of stressing out on which school to go to, I've finally decided on RWJ! And yes, this new P/F system seems very sweeeeet. 😀 I just have one question for y'all. When I apply for finaid, should I just put in the figure UMDNJ provided the the "student budget"? Thank you all.

From,
Me.

I asked for 45k, I won't use it all but who knows. I think they recommend asking for the max. You can turn down aid that you won't use.

I've submitted my AID forms over a month ago. Does anyone know how long it takes for them to send out an award letter?

Yeah I know I am overthinking it, but I also wasn't serious with my previous comment. I still have Dr. H's 212 area code number on my recent calls list, so I am positive I got the call.

I just can' t wait to get the letter, that will make it official.

I submitted my forms a month ago too and I just got a letter about completing the financial aid online counseling before being awarded a package. anyone else get that? i can't believe there was a quiz at the end and they sent the financial aid office my score!

i saw that the average gpa for njms is around 3.5 and the average gpa for rwj is around 3.6.

to everyone who was accepted to either (or both) school(s): were your gpas lower than these averages and if so how low were they?

thanks in advance for your replies!

Hey tch001,

I handed in my documents to the fin aid office in person so they told me to go online and complete the entrance exam. The lady advised opening up two windows on explorer or whatever you use, so that the exam at the end would be simple. I basically looked at the answers while I took the exam and I still got one wrong. Stupid crap. I wonder if its possible to fail the entrance exam.

Does anyone know when we are awarded our packages. Anyone have any info from last year. And tch001 did you ask for the max 45k?

I have a 3.7
And interviewers (not at RWJ) treated it as a low GPA. They asked me why my GPA was so low. That really pissed me off. I guess a 3.7 at a state school = a 3.5 at some fancy ivy in their eyes.

I haven't heard from NJMS, and I've been accepted to RWJ.

Yea, I got a 15/17, and one because I just read the darn question wrong! ah! I think I did ask for the max, but I filled out the forms awhile ago with my parents so I don't really remember, do you think we'll hear soon?

Thanks for the advice people.

So, do I take this entrance exam after I send the forms? Imagine failing it? That would be kinda funny/crazy if they took away your acceptance b/c of it.

Has anyone started to think about where they are going to live next year. This is geared toward RWJ. I'm thinking of living in Downtown New Brunswick as opposed to Piscataway. Any comments? Does anyone know anything about Highland Park? Piscatway is too dead for my liking, whereas New Brunswick at least has a little of that city feeling.

Bottom line, anyone attending RWJ next year know where their going to live yet?

my GPA was actually lower than 3.6 (!!!! uh oh -- but i guess it rounds up to it). I think it was probably my MCAT, research/volunteer exp., and interview that got me in.

Bottom line -- shouldn't have farted around as much as I did in school. I should've kept the farting strictly in the bathroom.

(i really gotta stop acting like an idiot on SDN. i hope they don't revoke my acceptances after reading my comments -- esp since my name and birthday are in my Username!)

So am I going crazy or did RWJ really have an admissions committee meeting yesterday?

The admissions office told me they were discussing me at the meeting yesterday but why are there no "I got into RWJ!!!" posts on SDN then?

Is it that no one on SDN was discussed yesterday?

Is anyone on here still waiting to hear from RWJ?

Thanks

same here.
im still waiting for my decision, i interviewed the third week in feb, so i assumed i wasnt evaluated by the adcom meeting in feb; i also thought there was a meeting yesterday, and i havent heard anything either.maybe they are considering us for the high priority waitlist, regular waitlist, or ..eep..rejection😱 :scared: :scared: :scared: . i dont know, but good luck to anyone else still waiting

I'm still waiting...I was placed on the "very competitive" list at the March 8th meeting, and told I would hear by late March. Anyone else in this boat?

when did u interview?

I interviewed on Dec. 12th. At the time of my interview, I was told turnaround time is usually around 3 weeks (which I thought was particularly fast). But after calling the office, I was told that my reviewer was particularly slow and had yet to submit my materials as late as late February. I was told that he had been given a deadline to get my materials in so that I could be discussed at the March 8th meeting.

what confuses me the most is how no one on sdn got accepted at the march 22 adcom meeting, as far as i know. the admissions office told me specifically that they were having a meeting then.

is there no one who got a call from dr. T on the evening of 3/22? maybe they didn't accept anyone at the meeting...

somewhere in the allo forum it said that theres an event for accepted incoming students on april 20th, do u guys think that they already have picked everyone for the incoming class?

Hey,

Are any of you rising 1st years interested in staying in the RWJ area this summer? I'm subletting 2 rooms in my apartment for June/July, which gives you perfect opportunity to scout out the area and find your own sweet place to live. PM me if you're interested!

4th page bump! AGAIN! C'mon people, where are you???

i think it's dead. most people are prolly lookin for apartments now...

I went to look for apts today. And I was blown away by this new building One Spring Street. anyone have any comments. Its a bit pricey but not much more than society hill, the highlands, or skyline towers.

Where are people living.

School starts in 4 months. AHHH

I'm filling out the financial aid forms now... Where did you find the $45k value listed as the max? I can't find budgets for the 2007-2008 school year, just last year's. But if $45k is the max and that's what they recommend requesting, I guess I should just list that value for now, right? You can always decline loans later can't you?

Is there anyone out there who is on the high priority alternate list at RWJ?

Does anyone know how many waitlists they have and what the chances are of getting off the high priority one?

I tried to make sense of last year's thread but just got confused further. They said in last year's thread that almost everyone who's high priority eventually gets an offer... but i don't know if i believe that.

Thanks

At my interview we were told if you are on the high priority alternate list that the committee has elected to accept you however they can't offer it to you yet b/c all of the positions have been filled. We were also told that they can't say with 100% but if you are on that high priority list that you would probably be offered an acceptance

does anyone know if njms has a priority list or what the deal is with the waitlist?

I was told that they changed their ways since last year, that there is only one waitlist that is split into thirds...

...you can call to see which third of the waitlist you are in

So anyone who is placed on the waitlist doesn't know which third they are in until they call and ask? or does it say that on the letter?

On a side note and totally unrelated to the thread, I just noticed that this is 297th post of the thread as well as mine!

yeah, it won't be on the letter but they'll gladly tell you if you call (unlikes other med schools 😡 )

I heard there was an ADCOM meeting on Thursday at RWJ.. anyone get a call???

hey guys, so... if I haven't heard anything from unjmd yet, should I just accept it and move on?? are they still even interviewing? congrats to all of you who have your med school plans worked out!
