I recently interviewed here so just wanted to share my thoughts!
- Loved the environment - from faculty to our student ambassadors, everyone emphasized the feeling of family and supporting each other here. There is a big open door policy here with professors as well.
- The simulation lab was very neat. We also go to see OMT in action and I thought that was nice especially for those that have never seen OMT before.
- The new research building looks exactly like the picture online, even though that's a digital picture. There are lots of opportunities for research even without the new building so I can't imagine how much the new building will open up doors for students. There are lots of doctors from other universities that they are bringing over because of this building.
- Online textbooks! Every student has access to them. The ambassadors were saying that they rarely used them because professors provided slides for all their lectures.
- Recorded lectures. Classes aren't mandatory with the exception of labs and a few other classes.
- The gym was very nice! It wasn't busy when we went, but it was the middle of the day. I think if you are the type to learn through studying on your own, getting a squat rack won't be a problem if you can go to the gym in the middle of the day.
- Dr. Johnson, the Associate Dean, talked about how there was going to be a new curriculum to better prepare students for the residency merger. He is awesome to listen to btw! Great and entertaining speaker.
- New hospital will open up access to more HCA affiliated teaching hospitals for rotations.
- Some of the other interviewees had concerns for the coexistence of two medical programs, with the allopathic one opening up in 2018. They did touch on this a little bit but I might send a few emails because I couldn't think of any questions in the moment.
- Our group had mixed reception about the interviews. Some had very relaxed interviews and some had bad cop/good cop. Just study the SDN feedback and your application! That is probably all the prep you will need.

Overall, I had a good experience and NSU is definitely a contender for me. I think they pride themselves on their ability to match up to other schools and the support system they can offer for their students. They said we would hear back by October 1, which is a fast turn around time. I'm basically going to be refreshing my inbox for the next two weeks.

Through your comments about this school, I just fell in love with this school even more!
 
So frustrated, they call me to tell me they have my MCAT score weeks ago, now they never had it apparently. Does anyone have a good contact number or email for this school?
 
Hey guys! Congrats to everyone who got in!
I was just wondering if anyone has the "status" part of their online application summary filled. All of my requirements have been received since 08/01/16 but the status part has been blank since. I have not hear back since the complete call.

It was dated 9/15 so it falls in line with when people got their acceptances. So yeah, it's unfortunate but it's not a total loss especially if the stats from a previous post are true where they had 8,000 applicants and from that 600+ interviews and then about 400 acceptances for a class of 270. At the very least someone waitlisted this early will be cycling through the committee a few times I assume (or at least that's what I've convinced myself of lol). It's still my first choice, even though I have other applications out.

I don't know how accurate those stats are. But what I do know, is they told us during my interview that they took around 50 people off of the waitlist this past year. So even though that number is very subjective to each years situation, it does see movement.

Unfortunate. I went to undergrad here and luckily I heard that they take a good chunk from the waitlist. Are you OOS? I heard also that most of the waitlist taken in last were people OOS.

OOS= out of state? If so, then no I'm a FL resident. I know the waitlist isn't any form of guarantee but at least I know they liked me enough not to cut me out of the runnings right away. In the interim I'm going to treat it as a rejection and focus on other schools. I'm just hoping that I don't get an acceptance to another school between NSU's committee review cycles, so that least I'll have a chance to be like "hey, I got accepted to another program but I'd still REALLY like to attend NSU... would you consider accepting me?... Please?!" lol.

They really like taking in FL residents anyways. May send a letter of intent down the line in the coming months to show your interest and keep them updated with recent ventures or pursuits in education or EC's.
Did you think you had a strong interview?
 
so if I havent heard back from the school and interviewed in august it means I got waitlisted?

Keep your head up my man. You are one of the first people on the waitlist so I think you have a good shot at getting accepted down the line. If you truly want to attend there I would send a letter of intent sometime in the near future.

I need to see an interview counselor haha

If i get another II this application cycle I am indefinitely getting help somewhere. My undergrad doesn't have the support staff or club for something like interviews.

Thats a good plan, I just sent an update. I just scanned last years thread and waitlist doesn't look promising at any point in the application cycle.

Right now I'm planning on sending an LOI after my LECOM-Erie Decision in October.

I felt really good. I got my message i wanted to give. I felt like I answered questions effectively.

But the scary part about interviews is you could do something really crazy/ignorant and a lot of interviewers are trained to not give away their impression.

General consensus is that if I am 0/3 in October for interviews (LECOM Decision comes in October). Then I am doing something really stupid in my interviews.

I felt my interview went really well, but I havent receive any mail or email about the decision! 🙁
 
I've applied to 12 DO schools so far and am considering adding NOVA. 499mcat and 3.5gpa (I think, might be higher- don't know how to check on aacomas)
thoughts? has anyone been accepted with these stats?

To check your GPA on AACOMAS just simply download your application. Go to the submit application tab and select the blue download button.

As to your question I would say yes there has probably been people accepted with that MCAT but they are more than likely the exception and not the rule. If you feel you have compelling EC's and a strong personal statement that might make them overlook the MCAT score then I would apply. Most you could lose is 50$.
 
Hey everyone,

Good luck with this application cycle! I was originally wait listed for Nova when I applied in 2012 (feels like yesterday). Just make sure you show your interest. Anything you email them is put in your application. I'm currently a resident now so it worked out for me. I hope to see some of you on mission trips with Nova next year!

I briefly spoke to someone from NSU on the phone who said the school would never accept an applicant who did not submit a LOR from a physician. I was just wondering how accurate of a statement that was; does anyone know of someone who was accepted without the physician LOR?

Yes they require LOR from physician like majority of other DO school?
 
Hey guys, I submitted my secondary here a couple of weeks ago but I just realized I made an ignorant mistake by using the term "osteopath" when I should have used "osteopathic physician". I used "osteopathic" everywhere else but in one sentence. Is this something that will essentially make my app worthless? Should I contact admissions and admit my mistake?

SDN Neuroticism at it's finest. Although it doesn't help, unless you put the wrong medical school name in, it shouldn't be the defining line between an II and a rejection. Just accept you can't go back and live with the result my friend.

I really don't think that'll make or break your application, don't worry! I've also heard osteopathic physicians refer to themselves as osteopaths, so the title doesn't seem to matter that much.

You didn't continually make the same mistake. If it is was only one time, Im sure you're fine. You're human and medical schools know that.
 
If Nova's portal shows the physician letter as what was actually my teacher's letter, should I contact them to inform them that they selected the wrong letter from the packet?
