Meme Gods are Angry. Got a Rejection Today!

It seems like a good number of IIs went out from various schools, if the school-specific threads are any indication.

I was using my friend as a dramatic example! And yes. I have done about 600 hours of clinical scribing in 3.5 months!!

Edit: I agree also with the person above about volunteering with people in need in a non clinical setting!!
What would look better between clinical work or non clinical volunteering. I will only have enough time to devote myself to one next semester.

My stats and ECs (http://forums.studentdoctor.net/thr...ion-for-the-next-cycle.1226746/#post-18243214) are pretty similar to yours, and I'm in the same boat with only one II at this point. Its definitely a little disheartening to not have heard back more at this point, but having invites before thanksgiving bodes well for the rest of the cycle. Or thats what I tell myself at least.

Hey everyone , when did u guys submit your secondaries ? I literally just made an SDN account bc reading this forum stressed me out hahaha

Yo meme godz show yo boi some love . I'm a good person ☺️

Most of my secondaries were submitted in July but I finished a few in the first days of August.

Alright Fellow Memer's The meme gods have spoken to me and they have said that I should pay heed to their advice and recuse myself from SDN so :

I will see you on the other side! Good Luck!

On the plus side, the one II that you do have is proof that there's no glaring mistakes in your app. It'd be shocking if you didn't get more.
That type of thinking is what is keeping me going right now.

I hope I didn't just blow all 5 years of work with poor writing!

Also I got a UCLA Secondary! And I'm applying to DO ASAP.

When did your amcas get verified? I've been verified late August and I'm still waiting for a Ucla secondary

Okay, let's say we get to this Thanksgiving hump in two weeks and hear nothing. Obviously I'm already working to better my app for next cycle, but is the fight over? Is there any hope in following months? Beginning to despair that my window of opportunity closes in two weeks.

Also, for reference, here's my WAMC: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/threads/3-90-gpa-519-mcat.1227057/#post-18256194

When did you apply? Based on your thread, you may have been applied a bit late. You certainly still have a chance of receiving an interview, but it is markedly lower. Continue to focus on improving your experiences and yourself and be ready for 2017/18 application season!

For reference, my application in 2012 was pretty similar to yours (sans Masters/international degree) I applied with a 3.7/34 and was complete late October/November. I received 1 interview in Jan from a state school which resulted in a rejection. Being late is a dagger.

Thanks for the reply! I actually posted that pretty late--I was complete most places by September 1st. Based on that, what are your thoughts?

I don't know why people are waiting for the actual thanksgiving day to put any backup plans they have in motion, be it applying to DO or something else. Sure, the saying is that if you don't get IIs by thanksgiving, then bad things might happen, but in reality, there's very little difference between one week before thanksgiving and 1 day after thanksgiving. Med schools are not going to suddenly decide to give out a bunch of IIs on the thanksgiving day. Therefore, it is in your best interest to start doing your backup plans as soon as possible, like today. So if you are planning to apply to DO, apply now! Yes there's a pretty big fee and time drain associated with that and you want to avoid it, but ask yourself this: even if you are lucky and manage to get another interview before thanksgiving, will you feel absolutely confident in your chance of admission?? Trust me when I say that you will not feel comfortable until you have an offer in your hands. So start doing your plans, now. Not much is likely to change between now and thanksgiving, and you should do whatever it takes to ensure that you don't have to reapply.

I personally applied to DO in early September, when I had two MD interviews. I didn't care for the thanksgiving rule because it is far from a perfect prediction. And I need as much assurance as possible, so I applied to DO. I felt like it is much better to have to decline my DO interviews and waste the application fee than to face the possibility of reapplying. So far, I still only have 2 MD interviews, but also 3 DO interviews coming up. I am extremely happy with my decision to apply to DO as early as I could, and I urge you to do the same. Don't try to comfort yourself into procrastination by telling yourself it's not thanksgiving yet. So what if it's not thanksgiving yet? What's the worst that can happen if you applied to DO now? What's the worst that can happen if you applied to DO too late?

So I haven't had an II since like October 1st or something heartbreaking like that and my MD apps still look like they haven't even been viewed lol.. so maybe just posting here will bring some luck! When does the "last" II go out because I want to go dye my hair blue :arghh:

I'm afraid that if I do it in Jan, I will get called to interview to my in state school.. maybe I'll wait for the rejection emails

Haha I wouldn't recommend dying your hair until you get a firm answer (interview or reject) from your top choice schools, which may be your state schools in your case.

Actually I'm very tempted to show up to a med school interview with crazy coloured hair, after I have at least one acceptance that is. I want to see how the interviewers will react 😛

That would be funny to see the results. I've seen hoochy dresses and jeans at my interviews but never crazy colored hair. There is a resident at my local hospital with purple hair who is awesome. Told me she interviewed with it..dunno if it's true or not lol!!

If you need some reassurance that the cycle does indeed go through march, read through this thread from last year. There were several people in that thread who did not have any II by thanksgiving and ended up being accepted. That being said, it's always good to be thinking about how you can improve your application for the next cycle until you're holding an acceptance.

Well at least they deem you worthy, I don't even get them.
I got them so often my first application cycle. but this time when I retook the MCAT I was veeerrryyy careful not to release those scores and open those gates. Podiatry email free ever since 🙂

One II in early October and silence since then...posting for some future luck. Good luck to you all as well!

DUDE, same. It felt good getting an interview relatively early. Now all I'm getting is radio silence.

Sigh... another week without good news. Rubbing that sdn buddha belly cuz I'm in need of some luck right now. 4 rejections, 3 holds, 0 II, 16 silences :nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting:

Anyone hear from ol' @baratheonfire himself recently? I noticed his account is on hold...does this mean he is unable to post anything? I picture the poor dude receiving an II this week and not being able to tell anyone. That would kill him.

I do hope if he gets an II that he can convey the message to us one way or another. I'm pulling for him!
Bara is like our unofficial SDN mascot/figurehead.
