How big of a deal breaker is no assistants in a program?

Not a huge deal breaker, but I want a residency to be close to a private practice feel in terms of workflow. It's essential in learning how to work with an assistant, and being efficient with an assistant. If we're spending an additional year learning things, this should be one of them. It's definitely a big positive to have dedicated assistants.

Now that some of the deadlines have passed, many of rest fast approaching, and people receiving interviews already, does it mean that you are REJECTED without interview if you still have not heard back?

I’m seriously starting to get concerned.
This season seems much more COMPETITIVE and SLOW because of everyone applying to residency and specialty due to COVID.

It's definitely nice to have dedicated assistants. But as a practicing dentist, I would say a program with less assistants isn't a deal breaker to me as long as there is isolite/isovac XD Whenever I did restorations or crowns both in practice and in school, even I did my own hygiene, I just used the isovac and the assistant would be there to hand me instruments but sometimes they weren't available and that was still okay. I feel like working without an assistant teaches you how you like to work and you can train an assistant better on certain things like how to do wax rims, pour up models, how you like things set up, etc when you are working. Def need an assistant for endo and OS, but most other procedures you can get by on your own with the trusty isovac, or at least that's what I've noticed in practice.

The end of the email notes: " It is essential that we have a passport type photograph, your match code number and your DAT scores to attach to your application. If you have not already done so please send this material directly to __________ to my attention "

Question: I don't want to interpret that last line the wrong way but these definite means email it to them right?

Has anyone received an e-mail from ADEA PASS saying they are gonna reopen the Dean's Letter for schools to update? Now my IEF on the portal changed from the previous "complete" to "accepted".. Would that affect the programs reviewing my application? I am kinda not sure how to proceed.

Admin at our school said that it is mostly to update rankings and all that. And that the programs are aware of this.

Personally for me, I don't think it's a big deal breaker for me . When you actually do things on your own, you learn more and except of course os and endo like @taraDNA mentioned. In our dental school we did not have assistant and did everything ourselves including perio.

I have not received any invitations from these programs yet, but have been informed that the SD VA does not send out invitations even until late November. The resident I spoke to told me that she figured she had not gotten invited at all because she had already interviewed at most of her options by the time she got her interview for the SD VA. So, we must sit tight.
